A Gorgeous Book
This story is lovely and heartwarming. The pictures are luminous. This book is itself the "perfect" present.

Raymond's Perfect Present
RAYMOND'S PERFECT PRESENT is a quiet, thoughtful story that reminds us that sometimes acts of love bring joy in unexpected ways. In her gentle portrayal of Raymond, the author, Therese On Louie, acknowledges that the small acts of a child really do matter.

The soft tones of this beautifully illustrated book add a richness to the text.

Absolute Required Resource
I took this course as a part of staff development offered by GMU. This book is so much better than the one I learned from in college. There is so much more offered to the teacher in a very easy to follow format. There are plenty of examples at every grade level to satisfy anyone. I wouldn't be without this book. Thanks to Ms. Richardson,et al. for writing it and thanks to my school district for offering it. This book will stay with me forever. If you are having reading problems in your class then get this book and quit pulling your hair out.

Very Effective
As an assistant principal, I have been witness to the positive effects of the strategies in this book, both for teaschers and students. The strategies are practical and more importantly they work. Students get a much more in depth understanding of their reading if these strategies are used. I would recommend this book to anyone teaching or studying.

great even for those who can't read
My 19 month old loves this book (and has for the last three months with unwavering interest.) The words and pictures are so engaging. I sometimes read it to him three times in a row. He loves to identify all the people, things, and animals throughout the story. The illustrations are superb. We wish that there were more stories out there about Raymond. He's so likable!

I KNOW THE ILLUSTRATOR
This is a great, short and entertaining book for young children. My four year old son gets a kick out of how fast Raymond does everything(eats breakfast, brushes his teeth). Overall a very good intro for those kids just starting to read.

Red Wind By Raymond Chandler
He is back. Philop Marlowe the crime fighting gumshoe has returned to fight evil and champion the right and true. Raymond Chandler has written another spine tingling thriller that will surely blow your mind and emerse you in the ongoing plot and lead you to the exciting conclusion of this wonderful book.

A great Raymond Chandler short story
It doesn't matter if the private eye's name is John Dalmas, it's still Phillip Marlowe and Phillip Marlowe fans won't be disappointed. Dalmas' life is saved by a beautiful woman who he initially tried to save. I won't say anymore than that because the intrigue, the classic Chandler characters and the atmosphere is all there intact. Elliott Gould is the perfect reader for this type of literature, his reading is cool and crisp and just understated enough for the listeners to lose themselves in the escapist world that is Chandler's.

excellent visual toolkit for the businessman
When compared with Terry Richey's The Marketer's Visual Toolkit, I rate Larry Raymond's book second best, in terms of business application possibilities.

Terry's many ideas are geared strictly towards the marketer, whilst Larry's ideas are geared towards the strategic planner - more so in the arena of Organizational Development (OD).

In terms of applications and examples, Terry's book is more wide ranging, although I must add that Larry's book has more depth in his treatment of the subject, from the strategic thinking and planning perspective.

The few examples given in Larry's book are also well illustrated for the businesss reader.

On the whole, Larry's book is still an excellent visual toolkit for the businessman.

For readers who are fascinated by visual tools in the field of business applications, I would recommend exploring Dr. Malcolm Craig's 'Thinking Visually' book. He illustrates with more than a dozen graphical templates f!or visualisation of complex information in business as well as in research.

Fabulous book. Very well written.
Larry Raymond's book is a real eye-openner. He outlines, and then describes in sufficient detail, how to redesign even highly complex organizational structures and work processes in a single day. Immediately, upon reading the book, I spoke with then met with the author. I have applied his process with great success. END

Toom your pocks an' put this beuk in't
I need Burns beside me as I live life, and this is a great one-volume collection of his greatest works in a convenient format. Glossed well; you won't have to use an index at the back of the book. Here's tae ye, Rabbie!

Great! Brief definitions in margin facilitate understanding.
Robert Burns uses a lot of Scots words, but any word you don't understand is defined in this edition in the margin right alongside the poem. So reading is smooth and very enjoyable. A great introduction to Robert Burns, and a good companion to other volumes. "Cutty Sark" means skimpy petticoat!!

Schubert's Vienna Fascinates
I picked-up this book by accident as I had never heard of the Aston Magna Academy. I certainly know about them now. They have produced a book that is a must read for those interested in either Vienna in the late 18th and early 19th century or Franz Schubert & the arts. It is a collection of essays by prominent experts arrayed in three sections;Politics and Social Life, Musical Life and The Other Arts. These different essays give the reader a broad view of the times and influences that gave us the extraordinary music that we enjoy today. A bibliography at the end of each essay points to further resources. This is a fascinating and effective format for presenting history.

Step back in time
Anne Frank wrote "If I read a book that impresses me, I have to take myself firmly in hand before I mix with other people; otherwise they would think my mind rather queer". This is the very sensation I have when closing this book.

Schubert's Vienna is a must-read for anyone who wishes to truly understand the man behind the music. This wonderfully written and masterfully edited book details nearly every aspect of life in Vienna during the time of Franz Schubert. The age is defined historically, politically, socially, and even culturally (referring to the other arts). This makes the book an engaging read even for those who have only a casual interest in the composer but are interested in the city of Vienna or the Romantic era in general. A scholarly work that can be enjoyed by nearly any level student, I defy you to walk away without a sigh of nostalgia for the beauty of Schubert's Vienna.

I thank the editor and contributors for a lovely weekend, I was lost in another world.

Finally! A Responsible Look at Sexuality and Christianity!
While I do not consider myself a biblical scholar, this book definitely caught my attention. I have to admit expecting a Roman Catholic papal redundancy on this topic, but instead I found Fr. Collins to be very insightful and penetrating in his analysis of controverisal topics. This book has challenged me with its nascent call to a sexual identity that is both wholesome and spiritual. Kudos to Fr. Collins! He is a welcome beacon in an often stale, stolid tradition.

Let's Talk About Sex!
I was introduced to Fr. Collins' work while studying theology and have come to expect much from this fine scholar. This book upholds the consistency and penetrating depth I have found in his other works. In this book, Collins explores relevant New Testament texts in both a historical and literary context, offering to the reader a new understanding of how discipleship and sexuality relate to each other, necessarily. Using poignant examples from the Gospels and the epistles, Collins dispels many misunderstandings about sexuality in the New Testament by using his fine exegetical skills, especially in noting the various lenses inherent to any hermeneutic task. Collins does not seek to define certain meanings or construct a systematic program; rather, he opens the New Testament texts to allow them to speak for themselves, to speak to the fact that human sexuality is a complex reality permeating any person's existence--hence the subtitle of his work: behavior and belief. The central motif of this book is that all disciples of Christ are called to embrace their sexuality as both gift and responsibility. In this affirmation Collins offers a look into the cultural conexts of the New Testament and elicits the reader to grapple with the questions offered in the New Testament texts themselves and those still very applicable in our own time: divorce, adultery and homosexuality. The parameters of this challenge can be found in Collins' conclusion; that a viable contemporary sexual ethics must include the following: the notion of embodied existence; the dignity of women in God's plan; and the overarching demands of agapaic love. Though written and executed in fine academic fashion, Collins also brings to this work his pastoral experience and compassion thereby making the book accessible to anyone who seeks to integrate sexuality and ethics as a living reality. Though attempts have been made to separate human sexuality and ethics, Collins invites his readers to integrate these realities. Thus, he gives us yet another great work, providing a valuable resource not only to ethicists and theologians but to all who wish to explore the possiblites of growth in their Christian identity.

The Sixth Day and Other Tales

Used price: $1.00
Collectible price: $10.00

The Sixth Day is a feast for the mind and the imagination.
Primo Levi's collection of short stories is a quirky and brilliant exploration of science and life. It compels the reader to think about familiar things in unfamiliar ways. With a bit of fantasy here and a hint of warped mythology there, it gives life to Shakespeare's words, "Your bait of falsehood takes this carp of truth; and thus do we of wisdom and of reach, with windlasses and with assays of bias, by indirections find directions out." The Sixth Day is extraordinary.

Short stories of depth and understanding
This collection of stories is both intellectual, funny and poignant, and deserves reading at least once by anyone who values good writing and food for thought. Each story is different, but all resonate with a deep sympathy for the human condition and a gentle humour that willplace Levi within the range of anyone's favourite authors
