This was the book I learned to read with. It is still my favorite, even though I am now 18. I buy it for ALL baby gifts. No words can describe how fun this book is. MUST BUY!!! :)

Just as a previous reviewer stated, I am ordering a second copy of this book. I bought it on a whim when my son was 6 mos old. He's a little over two now and still wants this book read EVERY night as part of his routine.

The big pictures and easy words are a great learning tool. It's just enough to stimulate interest but not overstimulate. The length is pretty good too.

Definately worth the money!

Sleepy Dog has eased our child into bedtime every night for over a year.The book contains recognizable subject matter for even the youngest of children. It even brings up a nightmare in a very lighthearted way, so as not to frighten children. This book has prevented our child from ever having a traumatic bedtime experience. Thumbs up!

This is the best dictionary. It is easy to use because of the unique system of word groupings. I have four crossword dictionaries and this one is the best. I need to replace it as I have it held together with tape and string.

I MUST FIND A NEW BOOK SOON AS MINE IS BEYOND FIXING AND I CAN'T MANAGE WITHOUT IT!

My mother is 84 years old and she has used this dictionary exclusively since it's been in print. Her current copy is in shredds. We've got to find her one. Her life is not that full and crosswording is very important and this dictionary is a big part of her puzzling joy.

This book is great for quick reference of brand and generic drugs and theraputics.

As a medical transcriptionist, I need a complete and easy to use reference book....I have never found a better one. I like the way it lists the medications, their generics and what illness the medication is used for. My choice of drug books for 14 years. Do not hesitate on this one.

This is my first Norman Rockwell artbook, and wow... after years of his inspiration I have to say this book gives one of the best Rockwell prints you can get out there.
The pages are printed on excellent glossy photo paper, and the images are all vibrating. Some paintings are revised in photography, so you don't get the same old yellowish rusty image from the 1970s reference.
If you simply is a Norman Rockwell fan or know someone who is a painter... I would say this book is the best there is. it contains a section of sketches - portraits, painting sketch, brainstorm ideas...etc. And the chapters are separated according to his years of career, from the early 1920s to the late 1960s...

I had hankered after a good book on Norman Rockwell for years. I think out of all the books available on the artist Norman Rockwell this has to be one of the very best. While other books have gone for quantity rather than quality, using plenty of black and white pictures to fill them out, this one has quality and colour with many of MY favourite pictures whilst also showing plenty of black and white preliminary sketches. It is wonderful. And the speedy delivery from Amazon has fulfilled a big gap in my "library".

The first time I heard about Rockwell was from a French Popular Song. Since then, I was dying to discover his world and I found this book. It was a lovely one just made for me. If I have to criticize the book, well, I would say it lacked a little bit of <> of themes presented, and hoped there were more of his works.. Anyway, I would say it was terribly interesting.

I teach and do statistics for a living. Don't let the humor fool you. Despite being the most (only?) fun to read statistics book, it also has more thorough (and readable and usable) coverage coverage of the basics and advanced methods than any other book its size. It explains both underlying principles and practical applications. Readable, usable, thorough AND funny. Who would have thought it possible for a statistics book! I reccomend it to anybody in the biomedical or social sciences who wants to learn statistics AND as a handy reference for anybody who uses statistics AND for anybody who needs to teach students AND for anybody who needs to explain statistics to the public. Deserves to be bestseller. And it's back in print by BC Decker, available in U.S. from Blackwell; ISBN: 1550090852.

I was trying to find the book for residents and students. I can believe that it is out of print! It was the only book I could find in many years that could be used to learn biostatitics on your own. It was easy, fun and it did not treat you as a dummy.

Speculative fiction writer Harlan Ellison was the one who introduced me to Jorge Luis Borges. In one of his introductions to his story collections, he was saying how he felt unfit to sweep up Borges' shadow, or something like that. He went on further to say that it was a pity that Borges didn't get the Noble Prize for Literature. I agree. As you can probably tell, I'm a HUGE Harlan Ellison fan, but I like Borges just as much. Anyway, this was the first book by Borges that I read, and I was MOST IMPRESSED. Here's what I remember of it: There's a short story in there somewhere where Borges says something to the extent that--the printing press was a bad invention. What! An author, whose very livelyhood depends on the modern methods of printing said THAT?! You'll have to read the story to see his explanation, but I was impressed with it. The Congress is supposed to be one of Borges' favorite stories. Personally, I didn't understand it that well, but I'm not saying that I hate it. My favorite story of the bunch? The Book of Sand. A very well written short story about a book with as many pages as there are grains of sand. The ending reminded me of the ending to Raiders of the Lost Ark in a way. If you like Ellison, Tolkien, Spanish history, literature, etc. you will like Borges a lot!

I don't know much about Jorge Luis Borges the man; I'm not an expert on him as a writer either. However, I do know that nobody can write a certain kind of story better than he. His specialty is to describe, in short, succinct sentences of utmost clarity, situations of eerie strangeness, earthy gaucho confrontations, or encounters with arcane religious figures. THE BOOK OF SAND is another volume of such stories that range over many centuries and thousands of miles of geography. Some stories appear to be ancient legends, others to be autobiographical, but all, I would say, are total figments of a superb imagination. If I knew more about the writer, I might know if he had a kind of tongue-in-cheek humor or not. In a few places, just a few, some sentences have the ring of earnest or forced whimsy--a sort of wrong note in a string sonata. But, if intentional, then I have misjudged. "The Night of the Gifts" is a classic gaucho tale combined with the element of coming of age. "Utopia of a Tired Man" is a gem, which would probably grow on readers as they get older, but which at any age packs a punch in its mere seven pages. If you have ever read Borges, you will certainly like this collection. If you haven't, this might be a good place to begin, a vintage selection of the work of one of the 20th century's great writers.

Jorge Luis Borges has been a fountain of inspiration for writers of this past generation including Italo Calvino, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Umberto Eco. All, without apology, offer a debt of gratitude to Borges, and this book is as fine a collection of Borges short fiction as any. Beginning with The Other, there are too many favorites here to name them all, but will offer these tonight as strongly recommended: The Mirror and the Mask, The Disk, The Book of Sand, and the awesomely eerie There Are More Things. This has long been one of my favorite books. It is a serious, no-simple-answers coming-of-age tale, yet at the same time it manages to imaginative and entertaining, with plenty of laughs and vivid imagery. Thus the story is enjoyable whether the reader is in a contemplative mood or simply craving a good science fiction yarn.

Most of all, I admire the author's use of language and dialect. He creates a form of modified English by incorporating words from several different languages throughout the text, as well as some made-up slang and terminology. (The novel is written in first-person, thus the use of dialect is constant through the text.) This can be daunting at first, but by the time you're a few chapters in you'll have 'picked up' the language to a remarkable degree. Years after my last reading, I still remember it.

Again, one of my favorites. I'm going to buy another copy soon, before my old, often-reviewed copy falls apart completely.

I first tried to read this book when I was a teen. I wasn't ready for it. I recently happened across it, and decided to give it a go. How can I explain this? I've read literally thousands of books. (None of them Norman's until recently). The story is a brilliantly told tale of a young girl growing into herself through a space-style walkabout; but it's more than just that. There are ideas and correlations and connections that are both familiar and alien, none of which left me untouched. I know, you hear "this will change you" from movie critics and the like, but I urge you to find this book, and sit down and really read it. It's not a difficult read; the story flows smoothly and the humor is delightful. Don't let this one get away. Trust me.

I found this book to be a very useful and practical guide for understanding the Christian walk. Its question/answer format made it easy to read and comprehend. The book was also packed with scripture references, so I could follow up with Bible study of my own. Great reading!

This book provides a thorough analysis in all facets of airport operations and provides the reader with a logistical insight that is unmatched. While the book provides a great overview, it lacks information particularly on air cargo development and facility planning at airports. While the growth in air cargo traffic significantly outpaces passenger growth, air cargo development issues at airports become more significant. Air cargo development issues must be addressed by airport authorities. This book only makes scant reference to this. However, "Airport Operations" is a valuable book to all airport authorities, consultants and transport researchers. No doubt, a very timely piece of information.

This book is an excellent text to all airport related personnels. I found it's particularly useful to people working in airport and/or aviation management who want to gain more in-depth understanding to all areas of airport operations. This book can also serve as in-house classroom training text for airline personnel. A highly recommended one!

This is a great source of information and very clear definitions of many of the key issues relating to Airport Management and Operations. Although written primarily from the European and Asia Pacific Airport and Airline perspectives, the author has worked very hard to include North American issues and examples. As The Airport Industry moves continually towards privatization, these differences will move to the background and be less obvious; and less important. This is a great starting place for the researcher or the occasional affectionato

I think this is a really insparationall book for people who have any kind of sickness and an insight on how people are treated in hospitals when they are hurting and in pain. how people are taken advantige of when they are weak. how hospitals do not do everything in their power to confort their patients. and the detail is so instensive in some areas that u can feel the patients pain and relief his laughter and hurt. i recomend this book to anyone who is interested in books of someones paining life but with alot of exteamly high points of ups and downs and a good ending.

As an essay, Anatomy of an Illness is engrossing. At as a work of inspiration, it is indispensible. Anyone you know who is ill, or who simply cares about his or her state of health, will gain wisdom and hope from this carefully constructed, sober, yet passionate memoir of healing.

Profound! Plainly written! Reality oriented; with the constant earmarks of someone who has, in fact, "been there and done that." Norman Cousins speaks out again!
