Excellent methods to deal with "toxic" past
I own this book in audio form and listened to it in the car during my commute. I found many very good ideas for helping me deal with past issues that have an impact on my current behavior (e.g., passive codependence, based on being told repeatedly in my youth that my opinions and desires did not matter). Wright has a great many excellent, concrete suggestions for dealing with specific issues. I recommend this very highly to anyone doing self-improvement, codependency, or inner child work.

EXCELLENT - GREAT PERSONAL AND MINISTRY TOOL
THIS BOOK HAS PERSONALLY HELPED ME OVERCOME AND UNDERSTAND MY OWN FEARS. NEVER BEFORE HAVE I EVER READ A BOOK OF THIS NATURE THAT WAS WRITTEN IN LAYMANS TERMS. I REMEMBERED THINGS THAT I THOUGHT I'D FORGOTTEN. I HAD UNLOCKED PAST HURTS AND WAS ABLE TO CONFRONT THEM. THIS BOOK ALLOWED ME TO OPEN MY EYES TO BE THE PERSON I AM TODAY AND TO LEARN TO FORGIVE NOT ONLY MYSELF, BUT ALSO THE INDIVIDUAL WHO INFLICTED SO MUCH PAIN IN MY PAST. I HAD THE WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO FACE THAT INDIVIDUAL AFTER 18 YEARS OF HIDING THE PAST AND TELL THEM THAT I FORGIVE THEM. MY GREATEST JOY WAS WHEN I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE SALVATION MESSAGE TO THAT INDIVIDUAL AND HE GAVE HIS LIFE TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.

THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ FOR ANYONE WHO CARRIES EMOTIONAL SCARS FROM PAST HURTS. WHAT A BLESSING TO NOT ONLY BE RELEASED EMOTIONALLY FROM THESE HURTS BUT TO ALSO KNOW THAT I DON'T HAVE TO PASS THEM DOWN TO MY CHILDREN. I AM A LIVING TESTIMONY TO THE WONDERFUL HEALING POWER OF A MIGHTY GOD!

I WOULD LOVE TO THANK MR. WRIGHT FOR ALLOWING HIMSELF TO BE A MIGHTY VESSEL, THROUGH HIS WRITINGS, TO BRING HEALING TRUTHS THROUGH THE GOSPELS TO MY LIFE. I HAVE PERSONALLY BOUGHT MANY COPIES OF THIS BOOK TO PASS ON TO OTHERS I KNOW WILL BENEFIT FROM READING IT. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING TOOLS ANYONE COULD POSSIBLY OWN.

This book opened up my heart as well as my past.
After reading "Making Peace With Your Past" I realize that the first 20 years of my life were spent seeking approval to receive love. The next 20 years were spent resisting love inorder to feel that I was in control of my life. Now I will spend the next 20 years leaning how to unlearn everything I learned the previous 40 years. Once I've successfully unlearned everything, the last 20 years of my life will be spent learning the true lessons of love, peace and happiness. Even though that sounds a little gloomy I'm sure I'll be a lot happier the last 40 years of my life now that I at least know what path to follow and hopefully stay on. Thanks Mr. Wright. God bless you!

Mechanical Behavior of Materials: Engineering Methods for Deformation, Fracture and Fatigue

Excellent text!
I thought that this was an excellent text!

Fatigue Study during Graduation
I think this book is a very good tool for those that want to start to learn about Metal Fatigue.

The best of its kind
This is a very comprehensive and well-written book. Unlike other books that are overly theoretical, this book emphasizes practical methods that are currently being used to solve real-world problems. The treatment of uniaxial fatigue (both stress-based and strain-based) is superb. The chapters on failure theories and 3-D stress/strain are also excellent. Some readers like myself, however, may want a little more coverage of multiaxial fatigue. There is also no coverage at all on column stability. However, if you've found that your college texts on Machine Design and Mechanics of Materials are simply too idealized to be useful, you'll embrace this book with open arms.

What a lovely....
.....story what-ever time of year. This is a beautiful story of christmas past and future,i'ts about remembering those things that we take for granted most days and when not around are suddenly remembered. This book also stands for independence, beauty in all shapes and sizes but most of all change...which can be a good thing...given time.

childrens point of view
I had the opportunity to read The Minstrel Tree, to a
group of youngsters, ranging from 2 to 10 years old,
several weeks ago, at the Dover Plains, New York Library
The children enjoyed the illustrations as I continued with
the book. The kids enjoyed the characters and really got
into them, to the point that they would not let me stop
reading at the end of the secession. They had to know what
happened, so we continued and finished the book. At the end
they all clapped. It's an enjoyable and entertaining story.

Heartwarming
The Minstrel Tree is a book that I just found so heartwarming and so fresh and so beautifully illustrated. It is so wise and meaningful at this particular time because of the theme of percerverence in the face of adversity. Mr. Shane's writing style is both right for young readers and never plays down to them and at the same time is totally engaging for the adult reader. This book is a must for this Christmas and many more. IT IS A CLASSIC!

great book
In a world that is completely inundated with so many Norman Rockwell books, I thought that i would never buy another one. I'm an artist and fan of Rockwell's but quite frankly there are so many other great illustrators out there, at times i wish that fewer books were written about Rockwell and more attention was given to other less known American artists like James Montgomery Flagg, F.R. Gruger, J.C. Leyendecker, Howard Pyle and Harvey Dunn, among many others. Then this book came along. I told myself I didn't want to buy it, I already have four books on Rockwell, I certainly don't need another. Then I opened the book and saw that the quality of the prints in this book are outstanding (the best I've seen) and the text is really informative. Now I'm telling myself THIS will be the last book I buy on Rockwell. This book will give you a new appreciation for Rockwell's skill as a painter and a colorist. After seeing these painting in person for the show that this book was written for, I can say that this book does justice to Rockwell's amazing talent.

Norman Rockwell is an unappreciated artist.
This book is comprised of articles about Norman Rockwell and his career as an illustrator with the Saturday Evening Post. Rockwell remains a controversial figure in the art world. Although his illustrations were enjoyed by millions of Americans, they were dismissed by art critics and academia as amateurish.

Rockwell portrayed Americans in their daily, mundane activities. He believed that there is beauty in the ordinary. He depicted for example, a couple obtaining a marriage license, a family going and returning from a vacation, and a barbershop quartet.

Rockwell's illustrations did intersect with the world of politics. Because the Saturday Evening Post had a large circulation, he was able to influence public opinion. He designed several covers during World War II, including Rosie the Riveter and the Four Freedoms, to honor the contributions of civilians and to remind Americans of the reason for the war.

Rockwell did not shy from controversy. As America became engulfed in the Civil Rights Movement, Rockwell depicted the ongoing legacy of racial tension. His most famous illustration in the area of civil rights is The Problem We All Live With, which depicts the traumatic effects of desegregation on whites and blacks.

In summary, Norman Rockwell must be include as a figure in American art. Although his works were harshly criticized by those in the art world, they were admired by the general public. Today, scholars have begun to acknowledge Rockwell as being an important artist.

"Rockwell" The Essence of Art!
I received Pictures for the American People as a Christmas gift and was delighted at the exquisite art as the pages unfolded. I collect all sorts of Rockwell works and this is truly the best I've seen. It explores not only the paintings, but what is behind them, the man himself. I felt as though I was being introduced to Mr. Rockwell through this masterpiece. It is a MUST BUY book! Even if you have never experienced one of his books or paintings, you will want to open this book again and again. The images are displayed in such detail and the stories behind them tell so much. You will be captured by the different aspects of art once you have seen what is inside. I will not spoil all this book has to offer, so if you haven't already purchased a copy, do so....or put it on your Wish List. You'll be happy that you did!

One for the Desert Island Library
I'm a middle-aged English professor, but I love this book now, as I did when I was a kid. If I had to whittle my personal library down from its present size (maybe 3000?) to a hundred books, I'm sure I'd still keep this one. I read these stories now to my children and remember how I loved the stories when I was their age. When I'm a senior, I'll remember how I shared this book with my kids, as well.

You speak Norwegian like an American ...
I lived near Oslo from Aug. '85-Jan. '86. One fall Saturday, at the checkout counter in a bookstore across from Slottsparken, I said to the clerk in Norwegian "You speak English like an American!" Her sharp tongue shot back "You speak Norwegeian like an American!" She responded to my questions why she (American) was there with "I was married to one of them" and couldn't "go back" because she didn't fit anymore. She recommended a book and also told me she'd translated some Norwegian Folk Tales into English. My host told me later it was Pat Shaw.

My daughters (then 8 and 12) read the book from cover to cover many times. Without the availability of an English grade school library filled with teen and preteen romances my daughters read pretty much whatever was placed on the coffee table. They enjoyed Shaw's translation very much, although I also occaisonally translated directly (with effort) from Asbjørnsen and Moe. This translation gives us in English a look at 'the soul of the Norwegian people', as a good friend describes the folk tales.

Marvelous stories for children and adults
My 9-year old was enthralled with the stories in this book, begging for more every night until we finished it. I disagree with his Freudian interpretation, but Bruno Bettelheim is right that folktales touch something wired within us, fulfilling an innate need children have to comprehend the adult world.

Although not as well-known as the German Grimm's collection in the United States, this book is widely revered in Norway. Both are teutonic cultures, but these stories are different in character and feel from the Grimm Brother stories. While they contain elements common to all european fables, this book is filled with trolls, and the reformation seems like a recent event. Norsk tales have a unique and compelling charm.

My favorite fable is in this collection--the one about the mill that explains why the sea is salty. Read it yourself--I don't want to spoil the ending.

From a purist point of view, drawings detract from stories such as these, but two of Norway's most most well-known illustrators are represented, and the artwork is compelling.

This paperback is a reprint of the original English-language translation from 40 years ago. I have that original text packed away somewhere lost, so it was a real treat to be able to buy a new copy to share with my son.

Stop Here for the Bucks!
Norman Pappas has made good on the promise in his book's title; it really does help the reader understand the obstacles to passing wealth from one generation to the next - and how to go over, under, and around those roadblocks.

This is a solid, common sense, easily-read guideline for those who are wise enough to learn from others how to preserve what it took a lifetime to build.

Passing the Bucks - Read it before it's too late!
Only two types of people should read "Passing the Bucks": people who own businesses and people who will someday die.

It is Norman Pappas' factual yet enjoyable presentation of personal financial essentials that separates "Passing the Bucks" from similar books. Believe me, I've struggled to read many of them in an effort to understand how to keep Uncle Sam at bay and preserve the results of a lifetime of work for my heirs and business partners. Now I've finally got it!

The author is an obvious authority on wills and trusts, business succession, insurance, estate taxes, corporate benefits and personal financial planning.

However, it's the WAY he brings it all across that makes it all so digestible. You can almost see this book - and its chuckle-filled Q&A format - as a TV series with Jerry Seinfeld or Tim Allen as the baffled businessman (hey, they're just sitting around counting their money now anyway).

The ease of finally understanding the alphabet soup of trust options (GRIT, GRAT, CLAT, CLUT, QTIP) makes us want to put together a plan NOW to protect our assets. I never realized that my children might only see 27% of my IRA dollars! And who knew that it costs me $155 to make a gift of $100 while I'm alive...but $222 to give the same $100 in a will when I'm gone? I know now!

As Mr. Pappas says, we and our accountants and lawyers are too busy putting out the day-to-day brush fires to deal with the forest fire that's just over the horizon.

I now feel confident that the people I love will be the biggest beneficiaries - literally - of my having read "Passing the Bucks."

"Passing the Bucks"- Forewarned is Forearmed
In "Passing the Bucks", Mr Pappas, a highly successful life underwriter and financial planner provides the highly affluent with an epicurean feast of wealth preservation techniques that he has used in over twenty-five years of hands on experience. The book is divided into two sections. The first deals with the passing of business assets, the second with personal assets. While written in a voluble question and answer format, the book is also a compendium of wealth transfer ideas that can and should be saved for future reference. Mr Pappas states that estate planning is a perpetual process that cannot be done in one afternoon with a group of professional advisors. The issues are complex and unique to each individual and must be continually reevaluated in the face of changing personal situations and governmental regulations.

"Passin the Bucks", is not, and does not claim to be a substitute for professional advice. Instead it should be used by the individual to gain knowledge so that he/she can come to the table with his/her advisors armed with the knowledge to carry on an efficient and intelligent discourse. With a little time and effort this volume will provide the affluent individual with information needed to preserve assets that have been acquired over a lifetime. So long as the government, through odious tax policy, continues to destroy family bussinesses and conficates already taxed personal assets, people like Mr. Pappas will be a welcome savior.

The best
I've spent years looking for a book on statistics that is lucid for professionals who need to use statistical methods but who don't want to get a Ph.D. in math to be able to undertand them.

This book is the best. No incomprehensible Greek formulas. No tortured prose. And yet it's not just a mere introduction of what a mode is. It includes some advanced statistical methods and gives you all you need to know to understand what they do and how and when you would use them. It is long enough to describe each method sufficiently, including pitfalls and things to watch out for. Yet the book is short enough that reading it and undertanding the whole thing is possible in a modest length of time.

You can stop searching now. This is the book.

Don't fear the p-value!
This really is a fun book - yes FUN - I'd even say it's a bathroom book about statistics. It's very conceptual, not at all driven by formulas - and makes many statistical concepts crystal clear. A great book to pick up for the PHD or the stats phobic - -

Excellent resource for the statistically challenged!
If you are an analytically impaired and statistically challenged math phobe who needs to understand and use statistical methods, this is an excellent resource. The authors explanations are relevant and easy to understand. Highly recommended for those who need to get a grip on the numbers in research!

This book helped me to change my confusion into understandin
This book showed me how to simply turn my negative thoughts into positive thoughts. I have read many books on the subject of positive thinking and books of healing. Mr Peale focused on the Love of our God and His Son, Jesus Christ. I have referred to this book so often that it has literally fallen apart at its seams. I will get another copy as I really do believe in what Mr. Peale is saying to be the complete truth. This book is a must read for anyone suffering from anything in life, so that means everyone should read this excellent book. I am almost fifty years old and I have encountered some great problems in life and this book shows me how to face them. Mr Peale refers to Biblical passages throughout the book all of which are authentic, for I have checked. This book is certainly one of the best pieces of self-help literature that one could be fortunate to find. Read it, you'll be glad you did. Patty Harman

Wonderful, Inspiring
I've read many self-help books, as well as various books which include imaging for goal setting, etc. This was written by someone who knows what he is talking about, has had many years of experience with imaging. His belief in what he is writting comes accross very intensely.

A Manual for life!!
This book takes positive thinking to a new level. A picture is worth a thousand words. So results are fast track. This man (Norman Vincent Peale) would have ruled the talk show circuit if that was his desire, but his pleasures had more depth than the tabloid mentality. Bravo on one of the greatest books ever written

An Excellent Novel
This is a precusor to some of the more recent historical fiction by authors such as Margaret George. I picked this up as a kid in the used bin at a bookstore on Amsterdam Ave. and around 118th Street (near Columbia) for about 50 cents in 1978. This book was my first exposure to the Norman Conquest, but from an English point of view, and I re-read it once or twice in the next few years. Just recently, I picked it up again to see if it was as good as I remembered, and it stood up well. There are now many more sources of historical record regarding the Norman Conquest that are not weighted with the natural prejuicide of the conquerors (example: David Howarth's 1066 - The Year of the Conquest), but at the time, R. Sprague's book was an engrossing and entertaining precursor to those works.

Gold star!
This is a really terrific book. The main character is fictional, but many of the other characters are very much real. I liked this account of the Norman Conquest, especially the way that Sprague depicted King Harold II's personality. An all-around good book.

A wonderful account of life during the Norman conquest
Red Lion and Gold Dragon by Rosemary Sprague is a well-written, warm account of life growing up during the Norman Conquest for young readers. It is the story of Aelfred Ansculf, an young Englishman who had everything until his baron father married a Norman. From that point on, everything will change for this young heir.Throughout this book, Aelfred will lose nearly everything, but in the end, he comes to know the true meaning of sacrafice and true love

Residential Landscape Architecture: Design Process for the Private Residence
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall College Div (1991)
Authors: Norman K. Booth and James E. Hiss
Amazon base price: $96.95
Used price: $35.00
Average review score:

Great Resource for Landscape Architects
Booth and Hiss describe in much detail the design process for residential landscapes. They strike a proper balance between basic design concepts and essential business knowledge. Landscape design students would do well to internalize the process described here, since the book's practical focus is unlikely to be duplicated in their Landscape Architecture curriculum.

Excellent
This book is truly a gem -- it clearly and concisely explains every imaginable aspect of residential landscape design using very straigtforward and easy to understand text and diagrams.

Ignore the fact that this seems to have been written as some sort of textbook for a beginer's course for professional landscape architects. I am an ordinary homeowner and I found the book to be easy and enjoyable to read, and quite educational. I now feel like I understand enough to design a professional quality landscape for my own home.

In case it matters, I own the second edition (Amazon is now selling the third edition). I can only assume that this latest edition is even better than the edition I have.

designing with ease!
what an outstanding book! i discovered this book during a course in garden planning that i'm taking this semester( i'm a student at the faculty of agriculture at the uni of jerusalem, in isreal) and it practically has all that you need to plan a super garden: the illustations are clear to understand, are varriable and give plenty of examples and of course ideas. the solutions to a lot of problems i encountered while trying to plan different spaces and gardens during my course, were solved with ease after looking through this easy to understand book. i dearly recommend any one with even the slightest love or nearness to gardening , design or just plain old mother nature to go out and get this book - it will surely help you get your house and garden design going in the right direction.
