Superbly sensitive, romantic and spiritual
One of the most beautiful, romantic and sensitive books I've had the pleasure of reading in many moons. An eclectic blend of Eastern yoga philosophy and modern day romance. Flows quickly and superbly! Arlene Millman, author of BOOMERANG - A MIRACLE TRILOGY.

This is the most beautiful book I've ever read
Dr. Gold combines western ideas of love and romance with eastern ideals of love to create a truly unique and engaging story. This book is uplifting, inspiring, and will renew your faith in the power of love.

Get It Now!
If you took from Robert Pirsigs' book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", added to it the elements of the wise mystical counselor and guide of Dan Millman's "Way of the Peaceful Warrior", and then transposed the lead character of Lynn V. Andrews "Medicine Woman" to a setting between Long Island and New York City, you would have something approximating "Saving Grace: A Spiritual Love Story." It is by turns painful, insightful, humorous and laugh-out-loud funny. That the character Valentine Jordan is married with childlren - one of them with special needs- makes the character more intruiging as we experience her handling her personal struggles with wit and courage. We travel with her on her hard-fought journey of self-deelopment and enlightenment. The "Eleven Discourses" throughout the book are applicable to people of all beliefs and religions,. provide a clear path toward personal comfort in today's world, and a guidebook for personal developement. If you only read novels, you'll love this book. If you only read self-help, you'll want it. If you only read inspiritational/spiritual litereature, this book is for you. If you only read classics, get it now!

Absolutely Great
Starting With Alice was one of the best books I've ever read. I liked the way I felt like I was Alice doing the things she did and feeling the way she felt.
Starting With Alice is a book about an eight-year old girl named Alice McKinley. Alice's mother died when Alice was in kindergarten. Her ears pierced and to have long hair are things Alice realy wants, but most of all she wants a mother.
In third grade Alice moves to Maryland, and can't make any frinds excapt Donald Sheavers a boy who lives next door. Once Alice makes a friend they have to worry about these three girls Alice nicknamed "The Terrible Triplets." Alice also does't want Donalds mother as her mom, who seems to have an eye on Alice's dad.
I think that the middle of the book felt long and it dragged, because the same kinds of things kept happening. This made it kind of predictable.
One of the messages it taght me was not to judge people by the way they look.
I hope this books intrests you now. If it doesn't there are other books in the Alice series that are really good too.

Alice is Awesome!
I loved this book from the first page, when Alice makes out her list of loves "Felt tipped pens, sixty four colors" and hates "Anything with gravy". From that first page, Naylor creates in Alice the little girl that I remember being, the difficulties of moving from the territory of childhood to pre-adolescence, wanting to be accepted but not wanting to change in order to do so.
This is the first of three prequels to Naylor's Alice series that is incredibly popular with YA girls, yet it works well as a stand alone. I have read a few of the other Alice books and they are great, but this is geared for a younger audience. I believe any young girl could empathize with Alice's trials & tribulations, being called into the principal's office for disregarding the cross-walk guard because she has it "in" for you, as well as rejoice with her triumphs, inviting your peer tormentors to a party and having them show up with gifts!
I think this is an excellent book for kids and their parents, who often forget just how difficult it is to be a kid!

I love the Alice Series!
When I first picked up an Alice book, it was for summer reading. I figured that it would probably be another boring book about some girls' life. When I realized who it was written by, I thought it must be somewhat of a good book (since I loved the Shilo books so much). I began to read, and I loved it. I could relate to some of what Alice was thinking and feeling. I never knew I could find a book that I loved so much.
Now, I have collected all of the Alice books and I'm waiting for more. I have even interested my friends in the books. Two went out and bought some of the series, and one just borrows mine. I think Mrs. Naylor should keep up the good work and writing books that I seem to love so much. I also like that Alice is girl about my age growing up in an average, middle class, well brought up family. I think most girls who like Phyllis Reynold Naylor's writing, and enjoy stories they can relate to will definitely enjoy the Alice books.

P.S. If you already have some I hope you get a chance to read the others; that is, since they are so hard to put down!

We have been pleased
"We have been pleased with Trigg & Dobson Access textbooks in the past. This revision for 2000 appears to be nothing less than the quality to which we have become accustomed." Dennis C. Hipp - Guilford Tech Community College

Exercises are strongest aspect
The exercises are, in my opinion, one of the strongest aspects of the book. They are varied, many require thought on the part of the students, getting around the "monkey-see monkey-do" approach of some texts, and clearly distinguish between problems for practicing techniques, problems requiring critical thinking, and problems requiring more exploratory activities. Timothy Fullam University of Alaska Southeast

I especially like three of the changes
I especially like three of the changes: A) relating the exercises to specific topics. Makes it easier for the students to comprehend the exercises. Also provides a logical foundation for relating topics to specific problem areas. B) providing strategic directions for project problem solving. Helps the learning curve for students who have difficulty mapping a solution path to complex problems. C) changing the fast-track index, rewording. Makes searching a lot easier! "The Angel Within," Conversations with Dahlia
To read ÒThe Angel WithinÓ is to take a walk in warm spring sunshine. Dahlia, the narrator, speaks through Phyllis and Judy, and showers us with tender Love and gentle Wisdom. If ever a person has delighted in a motherÕs loving touch and good advice, that experience is continued and magnified through the truths of DahliaÕs insightful guidance. Dahlia encourages us to enhance our self awareness and gives directions as to how we may find comfort in our CreatorÕs gift of eternal consciousness.

It is more likely for a reader to feel rewarded if just one truth is gathered from a book. But ÒThe Angel WithinÓ fairly glows and radiates with truth and wisdom on every page. As Dahlia tells us of PhyllisÕs journey, Ò... To receive Love we give Love --- this is reciprocity. Life then becomes the meditation, moment to moment. This is awareness.Ó There can be nothing more valuable.

I boldly declare that the instruction and the intent of ÒThe Angel WithinÓ reaches a level with that of Socrates who admonished us that, ÒThe unexamined life is not worth living.Ó Dahlia teaches us to take the next step: to develop our own Eternal consciousness so that we may more fully partake of our CreatorÕs tender Love.

I think it is a great book to read
It shows how people will do something crazy just to win a contest this one boy Jack did a crazy thing like putting Hamburgers on his dads engine and Andy Moller is Jack's cousin he was cooking crickets in brownies and giving them to kids at lunch and the kids did not know.I like this book because they will do anything to get something.I think people today are the same way like if you want some candy you ask your mom can you have some money to go and get some candy from the store

Wonderful!
Andy Moller is a typical fifth grader, a great kid with a fantastic sense of humor. Andy's true gift, however, is his unbelievable imagination. Cooking insects as a food source is a great topic to write on. The book is very enjoyable with lots of family humor thrown in. A great read for kids of all ages. Do yourself a favor and get your hands on it soon!

A fifth grade boy wants to use bugs as a future food source.
I think this book is funny and exciting. Andy has a real sense of humor. I like the fact that the world can use bugs as a future food source. Maya Ribot (mmarrero@worldnet.att.net) Boston

A Bit of Clarity amidst Obscurity
In 'Before & After,' Phyllis Bennis has provided Americans with an essential book on 9.11. Her points are well-documented and enumerated in a clear and jargon-free language. Moreover, she discusses each of the required topics: Oil and Israel, Palestine and human rights, American and international politics, regional and world domination, unilateralism and the rule of law. She easily exposes the Bush administration as a blunderbuss implementing an overt and unapologetic imperialism while she also argues, convincingly, I would add, that the Bush administration has used 9.11 to provide coverage for a pre-existing foreign policy (unilateralism and militarism) that would not have gained widespread acceptance otherwise.

In sum, her book is required reading for anyone wishing to understand the pre-history and after-life of the horrific event and, additionally, the reasons the US will soon invade Iraq.

A must read for an informed US and global citizen
This is a very important book for anyone wishing to be an informed citizen of today's America and the world. This book gives us the chance to understand US foreign policy and begin to change it. Becoming informed is the first crucial step. I can't recommend it highly enough. It is clearly written and very easy to read.

A Real Eye-Opener!; A Must Read!; Now!
This book will tell you everything that you truly need to know about recent U.S foregn policy as it relates to September 11th and our involvement with Mideast countries and events. To read this book is to understand how the dominating focus of the current Bush administration is to protect and expand our oil interests in the Mideast. Any civil or international interest or action that might possibly distract from this dominant focus is cast aside by the Bush team. The mass media have not adequately informed us of the very disturbing nature of this focus and its consequences. Reading this book is essential for everyone who wants to understand where we currently stand, as a nation, as a people, and as a member of the global community. Reading this book will enable you to clarify where you stand, as a citizen of the most internationally dominant nation in the history of the world. The book is sufficiently detailed, yet very clearly written. I believe that Before and After may be the single most important book that you can read at this particular point in history.

what the hell!
I spent years mixing Portland cement. By hand. In a wheelbarrow. This book ranges from the finest pebbles to the coarsest rocks. The briefness of the poems provides the sand. The glare of the subject matter induced tears. I read the whole thing. When I was done... no blisters! And the years have soaked my hands like so much dish detergent. Anyhow... read it without fear.

Out of the ordinary
These poems find meaning, beauty, and mystery in the ordinary. With his curious eye, compassion, and spot-on imagery, Tomassi makes an impressive debut in this collection.

Mixing Cement
Mixing Cement has a true down to earth quality, and yet is aspirational in its imagery. You get a sense of place and time and persona when you read Tomassi's poetry that is immediately identifiable and refreshing. You are instantly transported into his poetry, as if you suddenly became a character in a movie you were watching. If you are into discovering new bright voices in the nebulous, modern-American poetry lanscape, then get Tomassi's book.

highly recommend
I highly recommend this book to everyone who is out there searching for a relationship and feeling totally frustrated. This book will ease your mind and make you feel so much better! After reading scores of relationship books in which they all basically say the same thing (go out and look) this book tells you to relax and work on your interior self so that you can find the love that you need. It really made me feel so much more relaxed about the whole process.

A superb guide to the basics of leading a fulfilling life.
Prince Charming Lives! is a VERY helpful book-and not just because it can guide any woman, or man, in finding or improving a relationship. It accomplishes those goals with flying colors. What it also does, however, is gently nudge the reader into understanding life better.

Dr. Light points out right away that her advice applies to men as much as it does to women. For example, she says women can't expect to find Prince Charming unless they become Princess Charming. In other words, if we don't have the right stuff already in us, we won't likely have relationships with others who have ideal qualities. This is an idea that is definitely not gender-specific.

Another universal truth she passes on has to do with who we blame for the negative circumstances in our lives. "The degree to which you are willing to accept responsibility for your life is the degree to which you have the power to make changes." She adds later: ". . . the greater truth is . . . you have come here to heal yourself and to learn what an incredibly loving, capable, and powerful Being you really are. Everything and everyone you attract into your life ultimately serves this purpose."

Prince Charming Lives! says we can all be successful-if we try hard enough. It also tells us how to do it. The book is packed with practical examples from the author's personal life and anecdotes from the past 25 years as a professional teacher, counselor, and researcher in the personal growth/self-help field. Dr. Light shares many well-known but important truths about living a successful life. (For example, we need to let go of our attachment to outcomes and be grateful for everything that happens to us no matter how unpleasant it may appear on the surface.) She also describes several unique strategies.

One of these-calculating compatibility scores-helps us to find out if our energies blend well with those of our partner and to pinpoint areas where we can improve ourselves and enhance our relationship. She also describes meditation, visualization, and other techniques to access "invisible helpers," reduce stress, reprogram negative beliefs, and release suppressed feelings.

We get an idea of the scope of the author's vision for transforming ourselves by reading her definition of the "ultimate relationship." In it, she says, "my partner and I would experience both unconditional love for each other and total freedom to be ourselves. We would not be needy or dependent on one another to feel happy. Feeling whole and complete within ourselves, we would come together to share our love and enjoyment of life."

Those of us who have tried to make relationships work would likely agree that Dr. Light's definition sets a high standard. Her book, and a number of additional resources she offers through the mail, should help many people make the goal more reachable.

A great road to personal enlightenment!
Phyllis Light has done an extraordinary job of defining problems with relationships and why: because the problems are within ourselves! Her book is excellent for determining what past negative programming is in our subconscious that prevents us from getting what we want out of life and experiencing truly rewarding relationships. I have found that my interactions with (and perceptions of) everyone around me has radically changed as a result of integrating her techniques and ideas.

great
I thought this text was great--it provides information in a very clear and well-explained manner for the student who has never taken a psychology course before. Gray proves he has a sense of humor as well, injecting funny lines every now and then. It provides a lot of pertinent information in an interesting manner, and covers everything from theories on development and society to cognition and neuroscience. After finishing my intro psych class I even found myself wishing I could still use the text for my other classes (in fact I still refer to it every now and then).

Best Psychology Textbook
As an Intro Psych instructor, I reviewed dozens of psychology texts. Gray's "Psychology" is clearly the best.

First, because it is written by a single author, it maintains a consistent style and viewpoint throughout--that is, the application of evolutionary biology and cognitive science to the study of the mind and behavior. Consequently, he does not shy away from putting forward strong arguments where they are needed. On this, see especially his superb discussion of the fall of behaviorism and the rise of cognitivism.

Second, the author has a powerful command of several lines of important research, and he uses this to "smarten up" the text to make it *more* understandable. As an example, see particularly his discussions of the heritability of intelligence.

Third, the text is beautifully organized.

The text does, however, suffer from two small weaknesses: the discussion of self-esteem owes too much to James, with James' errors especially, and the discussion of mental health and happiness needlessly bore little imprint from the chapters on cognition.

Still, Gray produced a superlative volume.

A Great Book
If truth be told, I do not even like psychology, and feel contemt of some sort for it.I took it this semester to fulfill my humanity requirement.Nevertheless, I cannot deny that this book is wonderfully written, and it was a true pleasure reading it ! Peter Gray is obviously very fond of psychology, as well as of teaching it.It was much fun reading a book written so sensitively and with so much enthusiasm. I know many universities assign this book and am therefore surprised only one person reviewed it so far.
