My child loved this one
The Boy with the Helium Head is a whimsical, imaginative story about a boy named Jonathan who has a bad day. From a breakfast of Cream of Wheat to problems with the school bully to a fussy baby brother, the day takes a turn for the bizzare when Jonathan is accidentally injected with helium by a frazzled doctor. Jonathan's aerial adventures capture the interest of a child, and everyone is surprised by the resolution of the conflict between Jonathan and the bully.

Great Reading and Good Recipes
Usually I like to browse through cookbooks - looking at the pictures of appealing foods while searching for new recipes. This cookbook brought an added delight. I found myself actually reading the "stuff" inbetween recipes - spiritual reflections about food and what it means for us to gather around the table to share a meal. As an Episcopal priest, I felt a sense of pride that women in my denomination not only recorded their favorite recipes but also wanted to share how meaningful it was for them to prepare them for their own families as well as their "church families."

Having read the introduction, I understand (finally!) what happened in last years election.

The collection of key cases found here is superlative.

I highly reccomend this examination of election 2001 to any reader interested in an organized clarification of the events last fall.

A masterpiece of book technology, and lots of fun too
Having greatly enjoyed 'Getting Up with Dog' (US title: 'Can You Do What Dog Can Do?'), our 15-month old daughter adored 'Busy Farm'. Though in essence a counting book, such a description does not do it justice; it is a beautifully thought-out and constructed piece of paper engineering that will captivate small children and their carers. The book comprises four double-page openings, each with a number of moving tabs. Its great additional feature is that the book comes with a ribbon, with which you can tie the covers together back to back, making a wonderful play farm which stands up. As always with Jo Lodge, the drawings are bold, stylistically simple and colourful, and the pop-ups are among the best I've seen. They work well and help to make the book a magically engaging work.

My daughter and I loved this book.
As soon as we got Calico's Cousins, my eight year old daughter read the entire book. Several days later, I decided to reread it with her. I was thrilled to find such a wonderful children's book. It is incredibly interesting because it presents so much information about breeds of cats that most people have never heard of before. It has beautiful detailed illustrations on every page but it is not a mere picture book.

Here is what my daughter says about it. "This book is cool because of all the different kinds of cats and all the information about the cats. My favorite cat is the Birman Cat. I love its blue eyes."

We recommend this book so highly, that we are going to buy a copy of the book for our local library.

PUT THIS BOOK BACK IN PRINT!
With memoir such a hot category for publishers and booksellers these days, you'd think this would be a natural to bring back in print. It is one of the most delightful, funny and charming memoirs I've ever read. It's must reading for anyone who's grown up in California -- or would like to have. Theroux is simply a terrific writer. Get this book used, by auction, through the library, whatever -- it's fabulous, and one you'll want to read over and over again.

Gorgeous book!
This book is a must have for anyone interested in native plants, California or simply beautiful things. The book divides the state up into geographic regions which consist of examinations of special areas within the region (i.e. the Tahoe Basin is explored in the Sierra Nevada section). It also includes an introduction to basic classification of plant communities, geology, and ecology. If you want to get one user-friendly resource on California plants that features breathtaking photos and informative text, then add this book to your library.

Gorgeous illustrations
The faces illustrated in this book are amazing. My 9 month old son loves looking at baby faces so I got him this book. It is one of his favorites. The minute I show him the cover he begins to smile. He laughs as we look at all the different emotions portrayed in this book. Great buy!
