A scholarly and invaluable contribution
Translated from French into English by Phyllis Aronoff and Howard Scott, Gilles Havard's The Great Peace Of Montreal Of 1701: French-Native Diplomacy In The Seventeenth Century focuses on how the persistent, bloody, and often desolating wars between the French and their Native allies on the one side, and the Iroquois confederacy on the other was brought to a conclusion in the summer of 1701. 1,300 represents of forty First Nations (which ranged from the Maritimes to the Great Lakes and from James Bay to southern Illinois) met with the French at Montreal and, after a month-long ceremony, signed "The Great Peace of Montreal" which ended the Iroquois wars. The treaty, Gilles Havard persuasively argues, was the culmination of the French colonial strategy of native alliances and adaptation to Native political customs. The treaty process illustrates the extend of cultural interchange between the French and their Native allies and the crucial role the Native Americans would later play in the French conflicts with the Iroquois and the British. The Great Peace Of Montreal Of 1701 is a scholarly and invaluable contribution to both Canadian history and Native American studies.

Here Comes A New Reader
An incredible begining book for a first time reader. My daughter 4 yrs. old picked it up and began reading, really reading for the first time. The relationship of words and illustrations make the book easily understandable, fun to look at and easy to follow along with for first time readers. After I bought this set of books I went back and purchased them all. Highly recommend this for first time readers. A smile will show you why.

Herzog & De Meuron: Natural History
Another object book with content that matches the originality of the design. Herzog & De Meuron, the Basel-based architects, are best known for their art museums, but also for creating buildings that are works of art--even when the program is as mundane as a railroad signal box. This companion to the recent CCA exhibition is an anthology of interviews, stimulating essays by artists and clients, and pictures of objects that have inspired them, in addition to an illustrated catalogue of their 200 buildings and projects. (Michael Webb is the book reviewer for LA Architect magazine.)

Just what we needed!
My daughter is going into kindergarten and she is already reading (I think this has a lot to do with her using the Reader Rabbit Complete Learn to Read System.) Anyway we needed some books that had:

1. limited vocabulary, especially words that can be sounded out (this makes her proud) 2. repetition (to reinforce new words she just sounded out) 3. minimum pages (let it be over before she gets bored) 4. interesting story lines

Well, "Hey, Tabby Cat" was just what we were looking for. This is a collection of 4 short books. This collection is perfect for very new readers. It fits all of the criteria above for a very reasonable price.

The language and artwork are kid friendly, and the structure mimics the process of healing and catharsis in the therapeutic process. Don't miss this book!

Excellent to the point book aimed at educating teachers
This is the first guide I have ever found aimed at educating teachers about higher functioning autism and asperger's syndrome. Aimed primarily at Junior High, High School, and College teachers. As a parent I found it accurate and full of extremely helpful ideas for educators. I am making sure each of my daughters teachers read it as it sheds light on the education problems that follow my daughter. This book will give educators information they can easily use and incorporate into their classrooms to help these adolescents be successful. Even includes social interaction information. I loved it.

what an adventure !
This was the first "adventure travel" type book that I had ever read, and it truly got me hooked on the genre. Before this book, I had thought that adventure travel was backpacking Europe without a copy of Dad's credit card. But these guys take travelling/trekking to a whole new level. The adventures that they get involved in are amazing, like walking a ledge over a 1000-foot high gorge, or running out of food in a world where food is scarce and money is completely worthless. But his ingenuity always impresses, as does his writing style. VERY enjoyable book. I go back to it occasionally and re-read some of the best parts

Be Happy with Your Lot
This is a book I remembered fondly from my childhood, so I purchased a used copy for my two little ones. It is a simple, straightforward tale about a horse, Joey, who works in the city, drawing a vegetable cart for a vegetables salesman. Yet he to longs to live in the country and "kick up his heels." After he is sold to a country farmer he realizes that the city is where he belongs, and lucky for him, he ends up back there. A classic tale about appreciating what you have. My kids love hearing about Joey.

Fascinating reading!
This is more of a supernatural thriller than a si-fi type book...one of the few that I have read by Ms. Norton (&Miller). The story of Susan and Kuydall house is a nifty tale and well worth the read if you can find it. A novel addition to any Norton collection!
