PICTURE PERFECT
This book beautifully captures the magic of the Galapagos. Since visiting these islands last summer, this is the only book that captured what I saw. The quality of the photographs are wonderful and a real effort was made to travel the entire Galapagos and put it on film. Thanks for making it available. I'm sure everyone will enjoy this book like I have.

Latitude: The Galapagos Islands
It's great to see a photography book that stresses the true beauty of animal life. I've travelled to the Galapago Islands three different times, and this book provides for me wonderful memories. This book also provided me with photos of the different island landscapes and beaches, that I could only wish I had taken.

Latitude 0--The Galapagos Islands
My husband and I have had the opportunity to travel to many places in the world and now that we've looked at this amazing photography book of the Galapagos Islands, my husband and I plan to visit there in the very near future. The patience of the photographer are apparent when looking at the photos of the marine iguanas, penguins, and many other unique species of the Galapagos Islands. The photos make us want to see for ourselves the beauty of islands!

The Business of Chiropractic : How to Prosper AFTER Startup

Dr. Delman has paved the way
Dr. Ivan Delman has created a piece of work that will serve his colleagues in all the health care professions well, if they follow his advice. While starting a practice is very important, more so is making it work. Dr. Delman shows us just how to do that, with plans and advice and analysis techniques that will help make professional practices grow and prosper. This book should be on the shelf in every Chiropractic office, for starters.

Dr. Delman has met a critical need
Dr. Ivan Delman has written a comprehensive guide to life after opening one's practice. In this perilous time of both ever expanding responsibility and shrinking resources for health care providers, Dr. Delman has provided a resource that could significantly improve the bottom line, while maintaining extremely high ethical standards, for any health care provider who follows his advice. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a successful and enjoyable practice experience.

Nuts and Bolts Perfection
I have been a successful practicing chiropractor for over 30 years. It took me the first five years to understand the nuts and bolts of developing a successful practice. If I had had Dr. Delman's book, I could have cut down that to a month.

Dr. Delman has successfully covered the bulk of what I found to be true in developing my practice. This is definately a must-have for the new practitioner -- worth at least one hundred times-plus the cost of the book -- and an excellent review for the seasoned doc.

Just the right size to fit in your coat pocket!
This little book starts off by actually teaching you HOW to read a CXR. Not many books do that ... they just assume that you can. Then it goes into the four broad categories of abnormalities: 1) too white, 2) too black, 3) too large and 4) in the wrong place which helps you to categorise abnormalities. Then all the major conditions (e.g. pneumonia, COPD, malignancies etc.) are reviewed under each category. Read this before you start you clinical years and keep it in your coat pocket along with 'The ECG made easy'. Look at heaps of CXRs and ECGs from the beginning of the year along with the help of these books. Practice makes perfect! Good luck! I wish someone had told me these things at the beginning of the year! ;)

Great book for first year P.A. students studying radiology.
This book teaches the basics such as pneumonia, pneumothorax, and other abnormal thoracic conditions through the use of x-rays. It explains the abnormal findings of each x-ray in a clear and easily understandable manner. Best book I've seen so far on chest x-rays.

A "must read" for students before starting on the wards.
I love this book. It first teaches the reader how to look at a chest x-ray in a simple, step-by-step approach. Then it is organized quite effectively into chapters based on the appearance of the x-ray (white lung field, widened mediastinum, etc.). A must read for medical students starting their rotations.

Create A Profitable Online Business Presence!
Despite the downturn in the corporate business world, the Internet still exists as a means for enterprising people to market their business ideas to make a living. Opportunities are boundless and growing numbers of people continue to give the Internet a try. There are plenty of resources available to help them succeed.

Internet Prophets offers readers an excellent collection of business concepts, strategies, and instruction to help them start online businesses. The book features information about creating sound business plans, managing businesses - including money matters, creating effective Websites, marketing business Websites, online resources, and general business information that will make an impact on the way people do business - while being mindful of operating budgets!

Throughout the book readers are reminded about setting clear goals and objectives. Planning every stage of one's business is of paramount importance - the business plan, the Website, marketing, search engine strategies, and knowing what the competition is doing are all aspects of a business that demand close attention to detail and determination to carry out.

Most fascinating about the book - in my opinion - are the business strategies provided. Readers are exposed to some exciting and very practical ways to draw attention to themselves and to maintain professional and profitable business-client relationships. Strategies include establishing online communities, setting up auction services, creating portals, providing visitors access to information, joining e-marketplaces, adding interactive tools to Websites, hosting live online events at Websites, adding dynamically updated content to Websites, and thinking globally when planning the action.

The tone of the book is serious and the rewards for gleaning from it are enormous. The strategies are sound and the resources provided will put people in touch with the companies, products, and services they need to develop a meaningful online business presence that will produce positive results for them. The book is ideally suited for start-up business operations and those existing businesses that want to and probably should make the move to the Internet to promote themselves. Essential reading!

Covers both strategies and marketing costs
Innovative business ideas for the internet range from products to services and provide advice which will enable executives to conduct more business successfully on the web. Internet Prophets is the first to assess proven e-commerce strategies, matching techniques with budgets of large and small companies alike and presenting 'Internet Prophets' for four different budget ranges. Covers both strategies and marketing costs; rich in specifics.

A Beacon in the Ocean
This book was invaluable in figuring where to begin in the sea of e-commerce choices. The four internet prophet business strategies helped me figure out where my business was... and where I wanted to to go in designing an e-commmerce plan for selling online. I wish this book had come along years ago. But I'm glad it's here now.

Wonderful Example of a Russian Romantic
This book contains three short works that provide a wonderful example of the Russian approach to romantic literature. The form is wonderful, the characters perfectly created and the plot shores up the authors ideas with an most resonant clarity.

First love shows the blend of comedy and tragedy that is so prevalent in Russian works of the period. The events portrayed are those that could occur in daily life even to today. The emotions that are evoked are real and timeless. It surely adds proof to the argument that Russian works of this period age so much better than do those authors from other countries whose works have survived.

Spring Torrents is the longest of the works and still provides a feel that the length is exactly perfect for the tale. If the prologue does not pull you into the story you have an absences of a great concern that plagues many of us. How many of us fear reaching that point (or have reached that point)in life where we recognize all of the great loss of opportunity which has occurred in our life. From this prologue the story races along explaining how one of us has reached the position when the concern has become a reality. Wonderful feelings are evoked on the path.

This book is highly recommended for all and is a must read for the Tolstoy, Chekov, Gogol and Dostoevsky fans.

An appreciative reader writes....
First love is a wonderful evocation of youth, love and life in 19th century Russian life. I challenge anyone not to be moved by this book, which is both humorous and touchingly melencholic.

Turgenev's true-to-life writing won me over.
If reading in translation has proved difficult for you in the past, Freeborn's translation of Turgenev's short stories will suprise you in a wonderful way. There were times when I forgot that I was in the process of reading, but rather felt that these very scenes were being lived out before me, a bodiless and voiceless viewer.

Turgenev's understanding of and ability to capture the complete emotional processes of people in love in this collection touched me in its sincerity and genuine clarity. All the insane, skipping-over-themselves thoughts and quick jealousies that people experience are completely captured in stories like "First Love" and "Diary of a Superfluous Man."

Turgenev is a great introduction to Russian fiction. I'm sorry that I didn't discover him earlier.

A childhood favorite!
When I found out I was pregnant I called my mom to see if she still had this book from my childhood...I HAD TO HAVE IT!! It was a gift to me from my great aunt (a schoolteacher) - and I wanted to have it to read to my child. There are only a couple of books that left lasting impressions on me - this one is at the top of that list. Now I am looking for another copy as the one I have is falling apart!

Little Squeegy Bug
This was probably my favorite book when I was very little...it has a good message and is very creative, both in writing and illustrations. I have searched endlessly for a copy and finally found one (unbelievably) at an auction. Needless to say, I was completely thrilled. I'm sorry it is out of print..would like to have copies for my grandchildren.

the little squeegy bug
My mother read me this book when I was 2or 3.This book is so creative. the story is about a little lightning bug that has lost his light inthe lattern thathe carries on his backside. He climbs a blade of grass to talk to the moon about giving him some light for his lattern.I will never forget this book.I cannot find it anywhere. Thanks carol

Excellent Treatise
This is an in-depth look at Anne Rice's novels from an analytical perspective. Not only did it give me more insight into one of my favorite authors, but it was written in clear-sighted prose by another of my favorite authors.

Take a course on Anne Rice, you'll love it!
What a great book. I felt like I was in class taking Anne Rice 101! Great insights on her books especially on "Interview with a vampire". Great reading.

Indispensable!
No serious Rice scholar can miss this thoughtful treatise on the novelist's art, life, and oeuvre. Less serious readers will also enjoy the concise, lively prose and clear-headed insights from Crusie, famous on her own for genre-bending novels of love and life. Highly recommended.

As creative as any writer in the SF field
Ivan Cat's "The Burning Heart of Night" is a creative mind's play area. The concepts he puts forth are simultaneously very cool and rich with mindbending consequences as the story progresses. This book has the most unique solution to the problem of relativitic travel ever imagined. It has a Living Starship (a seedship) and a Valiant Pilot (Lindal Karr), existing in a unique symbiotic relationship. It has aliens that you'll love and aliens that may disgust you. It has a young (of age, sorta) lady (Jenette Tesla) that you'll dream of and fall in love with. It has a plague that threatens to wipeout the human colony that's barely scrapping out a living on New Ascension. It has joys and sorrows, and moral dilemnas that keep all the 'relationships' vibrant and you reading. It has prose that's second to none. This book is a visionaries own Cinema in words. Though, the story may drag at about the two-thirds point, HOLD ON, getting to the end is mandatory. You'll be shocked and surprised and delighted. The story is a technologically based adventure SF comparable to Niven's Ringworld.

Great Science Fiction
Ivan Cat's new novel "The Burning Heart of Night" is a masterful exercise in world-building, combining a delightful story, interesting characters, and an exciting plot that kept me page-turning late into the night. While I agree with some other reviewers who pointed out that the conclusion is maybe a little too pat and idealized, this did not detract from the overall fun I had with the book.

This is one of those science fiction works that keeps you thinking about it after the last page is read. What would happen if human "seeding" of colonies, at sub light speeds, became a high priority? Would the pace of human innovation be drastically slowed when it takes decades or centuries to transfer information between colonies? And what would happen if some humans (pilots) spent most of their lives in "fugue" time, spanning thousands of "real" years? What would they be like, and what would happen if they suddenly found themselves having to interact with "normal" people?

And what would happen on a planet like "New Ascension" where unforeseen planet biology forces tough choices on the colonists? How would human society evolve? And how would the colony leaders react? Only towards the end of the novel do we begin to understand why the New Ascension colonists behave the way they do.

I found myself pondering all these questions and more after finishing the book. However, I do not want to leave the impression that this novel is simply an intellectual exercise. There is action and excitement apace. The hero falls in and out of dire straights more often than Indiana Jones. There were a few times when I thought he was toast, and it was only by noting that several hundred pages were left in the book that I could foresee his escape ... and escape he does, in unexpected yet logical ways!

The novel is not flawless. I noted a few lapses of science and logic that slightly mar the overall ambience. Also the dialog is a little clunky in a few places, awkwardness that is not completely explained to me by the circumstances and setting. But these are minor cavils by an anal-retentive perfectionist (me) and detract little from the book. The fact that I read the entire 591 page story in three days (and I am not a particularly fast reader) will attest to that point.

In summary, I would unreservedly recommend this book to science fiction fans, and to anyone else who likes exciting, well plotted books with interesting stories that also provide food for thought.

Grand science fiction adventure!
Ivan Cat bursted on the sf scene a few years ago with the unforgettable and chilling space opera:eyes of light and darkness. Finally after a few years he gives us his second novel.
This one of the most involving and gripping sf adventures I've ever read.Burning heart of Light is story of planet in peril and the unexpected visitor to that planet who becomes the planet's savior. Lindal Karr,a pilot to his living seedship Long Detail battles a deadly saboteur on his ship and must crashland on the beautiful but deadly island planet of New Ascension and sets immense ocean ablaze! New Ascension, a lost colony world harbors a terrifying secret:a horrible virus called The Scourge affects all of the life-forms but especially the human inhabitants who in their fear of dying enslaves the sentient species called Khafra and drained them of their immune venom which saves lives of the humans but it kills the khafra! This horrible process is called the Sacrament. One of the ones who is trying to find a cure to this disease and stop the killing of the Khafra is rebellious daughter of the colony's leader:Jenette Tesla and her faithful khafra servant Arrou. Jennette and Karr must form alliance to stop the war between the Khafras and the humans and seek a cure to Scourge.Cat's world-building skills are incredible as he takes you step by step into this beautiful but terrifying planet as beings both human and nonhuman seek the survival of their species at all costs. This novel asks the question does one species have the right to destroy another for it's on survival. The action sequences in this novel are wonder to behold as Cat describes brutal battle scenes between humans and Khafra and race of mutant and mad khafra on the planet.Characters in this novel are delight like Lindel Karr the aloof pilot who must rely on others to save his ship and maybe his life on hostile planet.Jenette Tesla-the brave young woman torn between helping the Khafras and saving her fellow humans.Tlalok-the warlike khafra who seek to destroy the humans and who has a special hatred toward Karr who killed his mate. Arrou-loyal domesticated Khafra who must help Jenette and Karr even if it means going against his own kind.
Olin Tesla-Jenette's father and leader of the colony who seeks to save the humans but doesn't care how many khafras die in the process!Incredible epic far future sf novel propels to the 47th century and to a world of beauty and danger!

Logical Effort: Designing Fast Cmos Circuits

A very good book for designers or advanced students
This book is a long overdue explanation of the "Logical Effort" approach to MOS circuit design invented by two of the authors, Sutherland and Sproull, in the late 80's. The technique presented is complete and powerful, and this book should be required reading for all persons involved in high-performance or low-power MOS digital design. Nevertheless, I would not recommend it for beginners without some of what the authors call "instruction from veteran designers." The main shortcoming of the book is a lack of organization---important points are sometimes made in seemingly unrelated sections, and the sections themselves do not always appear to follow the most logical arrangement---and it could stand a more thorough editing job to clean up some of the presentation. Sometimes, I felt that information that was presented in charts would have been much more powerful in graph form. A few of the graphs in the book are misleading (arbitrary scales and unmarked breaks in scales), and some of the mathematical terminology is imprecise. The fact that the authors picked, somewhat arbitrarily, a new definition of the technology delay parameter tau (instead of sticking to the definition established by Mead & Conway in their 1980 book) is annoying. Aspiring asynchronous designers should be cautioned that the two designs for an n-input Muller C-element contrasted in Section 11.2 are logically different. A section contrasting the uses of the logical effort method in synchronous and asynchronous designs would also be welcome. All in all, however, the book is very readable, and it is easy to follow. It would be effective as a textbook, and it is a most welcome addition to my library because it treats a difficult and important topic better and in more detail than any other published work.

Blown away
This is without a doubt a must-have for CMOS logic and circuit designers. No doubt this will be on my desk for the forseeable future. The first two chapters present a basic introduction to the approach that is sufficient to gain a working knowledge. The remaining chapters delve into details such as applying the method to domino circuits, passgate logic, cells with unequal rise/fall times, and a complete derivation of the method. The authors are well known experts in the field of high speed circuit design, and David Harris' presentation of the material is far from bland and boring. This is one of the few technical books I had a hard time putting down. Highly recommended!

Great Product
A welcome addition to the field of VLSI with pratical and not ridiculous constraints to establish fast and efficient logic designs. The book could use some introduction topics in VLSI to make the book more broad and probably more appealing as a textbook.
