A Great History Lesson
This story can be a great tool to introduce other cultures to young children. It can also be used by history teachers as well as georgaphy teachers. The children, to whom I have read this book, loved it, and were very interested in finding out more about Hawwaii.

Peace
In 1901 England, a young man sets out on a spiritual odyssey. Becoming a monk, he is sent to a far off monastery, so that he can learn to be a champion of prayer. Along this path, the little monk learns about silence, solitude and tranquility. He learns about love, joy, prayer and peace.
In light of recent events, at one time I began to think that this was not the right time to read this book. Later, though, I began to realize that this is the perfect time to read this book. In a time of tumult and alarum, it is right and proper to think about peace, where it can be found and how it can be acquired. This short book is a quick read, with simple but fitting illustrations, one that I recommend.

another wonderful output from a master(mistress) of writing
fay weldon is just so wonderful, i cannot imagine anyone enjoying dannielle steele comparied to her, its like eating a bowl of whipped cream as compared to a tasty lobster dinner, one iwth a zing of tart and sour lemon juice throughout, but hey, thats life and no one and i mean no one is a better, more honest chrinicler of life than fay weldon. she should be requried reading in every book club, and her books should be lining the book stores first tables, not hidden in the back. i just love her work and i hope she becomes more well known here in the states, as the english say.

One of a kind.
Rosemary Jackson's book approaches the difficult and somewhat unusual topic of mother's who are separated from their children from both a personal and philosophical perspective. The author takes the reader through a historical and cultural journey in an effort to understand why it is so difficult for women in this situation. She explains why women who leave their children invoke such extreme reactions, particularly from other mothers. The book is supplemented with vignettes, women who tell their individual stories, each quite different from the other. Even for those readers who find the much of background content somewhat esoteric, they will be moved by the stories of the women, and by the candour of the author in sharing her own story. Definitely a must have for any woman who has, by choice or design , been separated from their children. This book is also highly recommended for students with an interest in women's issues.

A Little Gem
This is a small book on master architect Fey Jones. There is a short intro by Robert Ivy (author of the 1992 Jones Monograph), a short bio on Jones that contains many quotes by the architect. Two chapters complete the book with the architect's own words on his design process and organic architecture. The book contains plans, sections, photos and some detail drawings of some of Jones more noted projects and furniture pieces. It is small book of only 94 pages. It is light reading and not a retrospective of his work. However, it is a beautiful little book for a great value and would make a nice gift for an architect or architecture enthusiest.

Like a lost branch of the Mabinogion
I really enjoyed this book. It tells the story of three companions, killers all: Niall the artist monk, Finnglas the warrior princess, and Pangur Ban, the white cat, who are thrown together under dreadful circumstances, but must come to depend on and even care for one another. Fay Sampson's prose is succint and compelling. Though the story is original, the style and overall feel of the book remind me of a retelling of ancient Celtic myths -- I almost felt like I was reading a lost branch of the Mabinogion. It also made me think of Gerald Morris's "The Squire's Tale" books (retellings of the Arthurian Gawain myths). One warning, there is a fair amount of violence and death in this story (though no worse than, say, "Redwall").

Women Fly Planes!
This is a fine book for showing numerous images of commercial pilots as they go about their work while on duty. But by far the best part is the positive image it gives to female pilots as role models for young girls. I am buying more copies to give as gifts to young girls I know, to inspire them and to fill their open minds with beautiful and challenging possibilities.

Prussia 101
This is the classic introductory overview of the development of the Kingdom of Prussia up until the death of Frederick the Great. Although the work does deal with the distant formative era of Brandenburg-Prussia during the rule of the Ascanian dynasty, the primary focus of the book is the period following 1525. Central themes include the development of the Prussian army, economic reform, and the evolution of the administrative system. The book is an excellent starting point for further study of the Kingdom of Prussia.
