Excellent WWII Survival tale
WOW! I can't believe I actually found this book listed! It's like, ancient! The crew of an early WWII British Expeditionary Force light tank (British designation Matilda, US manufature designation M-2 Stuart) affectionately known as Bert fight to stay alive when it all comes apart in France. Good action, and characters you can't help but root for. For the German equivalent, read Barry sadler's Casca: Panzer soldier. I haven't read this in 15 years at least, but it's good to know I'm not the only one who remembers it. Now, if only they had that old western "The Tonto KId"...

Tramp in Armor
I read this book 20 years ago and it is still etched into my mind. This is a wonderful book for WWII buffs. These Brits are lovable when things come unglued. Survival behind enemy lines at Dunkirk in 1940.

Panzer Battles IS about the battles...
Written from a member of the German General Staff's point of view, this is about the early decisive victories and the later defeats, and what it can teach us about warfare today. The book really deals with the action on an operational level, but does deal with tactics, planning and the importance of using tanks, artillery, infantry and air units together. Lots of maps, the book is a blow-by-blow history of the German campaigns in Europe, North Africa, Russia and the final days of the Third Reich. Compares German and Allied forces, how tough they were, how flexible their reactions in battle were, their equipment and so on.

Excellent book on military operations
One reviewer compared this book to other memoirs by german generals. I've only read Guderian so far, but I must say that von Mellenthin's book is much better when it comes to describing military operations. Von Mellenthin is an expert at choosing the level of detail necessary to make his point, and doesn't bore you with unnecessary details, while Guderian spends a lot of time explaining exactly where his divisions and his HQ were each day. Von Mellenthin also participated in the battles in North Africa, a theatre which seems to be covered in fewer books than the eastern or western front. Just don't expect to find anything on non-military matters in this book, for that you should look elsewhere.

Great read for people interested in history and soldiers
A very good book covering World War 2 from the perspective of a German General Staff Officer. Especially interesting is Part 2 about the war in the Western Desert. Von Mellenthin describes Rommel's leadership methods, the reasons for victories and defeats. In Part 3 he writes about the Russian theatre, the skills of Generals like Manstein or Balck, who takes the author with him as his Chief of Staff from Corps to Army level in Russia and to Army Group G in the Western Front. I can highly recommend Panzerbattles not only for readers of military history but also for soldiers who want to know more about lessons learned in World War 2.

Very Disappointed.
I love books and I'm not often let down by them. And yes, the book is mostly funny and quite witty in many places. But its definitely not worth the money I paid for it. I was so disappointed with it when it arrived. Lot's of hype, no substance, its as if the author was aiming for maximum profit with minimum effort. Twenty pages would have been more than enough for a book of this size and some of the quips became annoyingly redundant nearer the end. I love Xena, but I hate being ripped off. Maybe my expectations were too high. Wait to get it on clearance. Or borrow it from a friend. You'll feel better about yourself.

Read with an open mind.
If you have a sense of humor, you will enjoy this book. If you don't you will hate it. It is totally tounge in cheek and meant to be that way. Don't take it seriously, you're not supposed to. Personally I found the book hilarious, course I am naturally crazy. To judge whether or not you will like it; if you like the humorous episodes of Xena, then you will enjoy it. It has the same humor and one liners as they use on the show. Thanks for listening and Battle On my friends!

Awesome!
A must have for ANY xenite, includes humorus quotations about Gabrielle, Xena and the fun side of life and such! Here's an example:

Copper breastplates intiminate. Thigh High boots convey power. Weapons are always appropirate accessories. Dress codes are not taken lightly.

Speak softly, but carry a big stick, and a big sabre, knife, a singing sword, a mace, and a shield, and a lasso..and a killer frisbee..and....

Consider: Gabrielle is beautiful. Gabrielle is almost entirely incomptent. Gabrielle's latest performance review was unbelivably positive.
Conclusion: Gabrielle continues to require my close, personal and hands on supervision,

great humorous idea, funny ironies, so so literary
I dunno, I 've read Jewels and Bieus books. Jewels is emotional tripe and "The Revenge" is a funny satire of it. Unfortunatley it offers nothing that couldnt stand without the original. Some of the poems are down right hilarious but only as far as how much of a joke that is made from Jewel's book. I liked it for a good momentary read but dont really care to look through it again.

I wil admit though, Im interested in finding out what he skewers next.

Siezure Funny!!!!!
This is the funniest book I have ever read. You absolutely don't need to have read Jewel's poetry to appreciate Beau's genius. I love Jewel's music, this book is nothing against her. If anything it's more affectionate satire of Charles Bukowski's poetry. The point is: buy this book, buy it twice. It made me want to be a poet, a very offensive poet, but a poet none the less. To all those who were offended by some of his poems, I understand how you might be, but come on, sometimes we just need to laugh at things that we're not supposed to admit are funny. You'll feel better once you do.

Great Book, So Funny!
I read some of the poems. It is so funny. I read it at the Strand. If I ever come up with $10, this will be the first book I'll buy. Jewel fans will really appreciate it, but anyone will appreciate the humor. While super funny, it's still poetry. It's the best modern book of poetry I've ever read. Who says poetry can't be funny? Even unintentionally, Jewel's is.

More than just Arms and Uniforms
The authors did a nice job of using the english language to make knights interesting without being fiction. I learned about what happens when a knight breaches the code of chivalry which was not in any of the other books I researched.

Arms & Armor

This book was more about weapons than about arms and armor.
This book isn't really about arms and armor-- it's about weapons. If you are looking for a book that is compleatley about arms and armor, then find another book, but if you want a book that is about the history of weapons, then this is the book for you. I was looking for arms and armor, and this book didn't really have that much information on it.

SEE real weapons and armor
DK eyewitness books are some of the greatest non-fiction books around. The distinctive white background and high-quality photography gives this book an edge over any other nonfiction picture book. And -- these pictures are real! They're beautiful museum-quality photos of all things related to arms & armor, accompanied by informative captions and text.

Learn about all types of armor and weapons, how they were used, and the people who used them.

If you know someone (young or old) who is fascinated by armor, then you must introduce them to this book!

A Wonderful Reference
From a different perspective, I have always found this book to be a wonderful reference for role-playing games. In my D&D campaign, this book was required reading for all players. It may not be the most thorough book on the subjest but it is pretty close. It gives those new to gaming an incredible viewpoint of medieval armour, siege weapons and types of weapons and their uses that fall outside the general point of reference for most young people. Any RPG fan is sure to love this book.

Aside from RPG fans, I think this book has something to offer everyone. All of the books in the Eyewitness series stand apart as an amazing set of visual reference volumes. Vivid illustration and bold lettering make them easy to read and do not put off younger readers while the wealth of information available and the thoroughness which they have exercised in creation of these volumes earn these books a welcome place in any reference library - whether school, village or home.

Stan Lee presents Iron Man, the armor wars
Published in Unknown Binding by Marvel Comics ()
Author: David Michelinie

Average review score:

The definitive Iron Man storyline of all time!
Tony Stark is a man on the brink of deadly obsession over his stolen technology gone awry. This storyline has all the elements you could ask for: action, intrigue, suspense, drama. Iron Man takes on friend and foe alike in his quest to eliminate the product of his genius, and woe be unto anyone who gets in his way! David Michilinie, Mark Bright, Bob Layton, and Barry Windsor-Smith weave a tale that simply shatters the boundaries of comic book fiction, and shows us a side of Iron Man seldom seen. Worth every penny, and then some!

THE classic Iron Man yarn.
Consistently voted online and off as the best of all Iron Man storylines, this Michelinie/Layton gem details how Tony Stark/Iron Man must attempt to nullify his secret armor technology that has fallen into the wrong hands. The original comics were Iron Man #225-232, and are virtually impossible to find. Nab this TPB whenever you can.

Armour Wars
I thought this book was an excellent read as it showed how Tony Stark went off on an action-packed costly quest to get his technology out of over people's hand's after discovering it had been stolen from him and used to harm innocent people, wanting to assure it was never used to harm people again, he caused a few deaths along the way and almost crossed the line beyond redemption.

It shows him hunting down armoured villains and attacking government agents. He goes toe-to-toe with the world foremost secret agency, armoured agents from other countries and one of his oldest friends. Not to mention one hell of a near death experience and a change in Armour.

Basically it has everything you need in a good novel, book or comic.

Stone's glossary is the first one I consult whenever I start to research on arms and armor. For many questions it is the last place I need to go. If you can only have one book on the subject, get this one.

The most complete arms and armor book I have ever read
This book contains a staggering selection of photos and general information on arms and armor from around the world. Japanese, Chinese, African, South American, European and Middle Eastern for a start. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

A very thourough and complete refrence to weapons and armor.
Not only does this book explains the purpose of a weapon or armor, it also on many occasion tells you the practical applications and history. Good resource for anyone with interest in medieval and renaissance weapons and armor. TS

Engaging and Entertaining...but a bit short!
This is the third Antal book I've enjoyed, after reading (or rather, interacting with) Infantry Combat and reading "Proud Legions."

This book was written just before the Gulf War, so I found it interesting that Antal picked the Middle East as the theater of war for a fictional future conflict with an unidentified enemy.

The book plays out much like the old "Choose Your Own Adventure" series that I enjoyed as a grade-schooler, where you have to make choices that lead to branching stories.

In this particular adventure, you are 2LT Jaeger, a young tank platoon commander in charge of 4 M1 Abrams tanks. You are the junior platoon leader in the company, and are initially assigned a reserve role in your first mission.

As the other elements of your company come under fire, you are asked to make decisions which can either save the day or kill you and all under your command. Certainly I enjoy this more from the comfort of my living room reading chair, rather than the turret of a tank in combat! If, however, you do end up making a fatal mistake, Antal writes in some helpful advice on what you did wrong, and invites you to try again.

Having already familiarized myself with Antal's work when reading "Infantry Combat", I passed through the book fairly easily, and was somewhat disappointed at its brevity. There were only two basic missions, unlike "Infantry Combat," which was a little more involved and took you through an entire campaign consisting of several branching possibilities that still led to victory.

All in all, though, it was a fun read, and I recommend it to those who enjoy being armchair generals, like me.

Superb War Game Book!
John F. Antal's clean prose has a psychological edge to it that proves that the lack of narrative action in other wargames neglects a very important dimension in tactical decisionmaking. Case in point: your lookout frantically radios back to you for permission to withdraw, because he believes he will die if he stays at his current position. If you grant him permission, you will lose sight of your attackers, but if you order him to stay put, his death could undermine your troops's trust in your judgement-which could lead to fatal delays in their execution of your future orders. Although many of the text entries are long, Antal's efficient, yet effective, battle descriptions are dangerously immersive. Consequently, the decision points are surprising, because they seem to appear suddenly like a hand grenade bouncing unexploded at your feet. Indeed, skilled, immediate, on-the-spot judgement calls are crucial to staying alive and might leave you gasping for those peaceful t-junctions to ponder over in other gamebooks.

Superb book on modern tank combat!
Armor Attacks is an excellent book. This book entertains as well as teaches. In this book the reader determines the ending by his or her decisions. Every junior officer in the Army and Marine Corps should read this book. Civialians will enjoy it too, and get a glimpse of what it is like to be a tank platoon leader. Very well done!

Nerd in Shining Armor

Revenge of the nerd!
Generieve Terrence's scheme to jump in the sack with her GQ-hunk of a boss Nick Brogan when she accompanies him on a trip to Maui turns nightmarishly awry. The twist comes when Nick is an psychotic embezzler who concocts a plan to crash the plane along with geeky programmer Jack Farley and her secretary and parachute his way out. The full-length debut by Harlequin veteran Vicki Lewis Thompson is at once a heart-thumping revenge of the nerds which chucks stereotypes to the bin. It is boisterous fun and sass as readers soak themselves in the sunny chemistry between Jack and Gen and fan themselves under the heat of their sizzling passion. Jack charms with sincerity as the leading alpha-male who saves the day while Gen regains her former feisty self as a triumphant survivor in poverty-stricken Tennessee. And no less compelling is the secondary romance between Gen's mother Annabelle and Matt - the acting executive at Gen's company. Ms. Thompson's characters are immensely amicable, complete with tart parlance and wits to make this a riotous trip of love and fun.

**Loved**Loved**Loved**
Have you ever wanted to be stranded on a deserted island with someone of the opposite sex? No computers, no telephones, no animals to take care of, no cares in the world? Then, you've GOT to read this book! I absolutely loved this book! Not to mention that it was on sale and [cheap](I would have paid way for it) is always a pleasant surprise.

This story will take you to a far away place to forget your daily grind. I wish that I would have been close to a beach when reading, because it would have been the perfect scenario to read.

It's like a mix between Survivor meets Blue Lagoon. The passion between Gen and (the nerd) Jack is so believable that you will instantly feel like you've known these characters for years.

This is my first read by Vicki L Thompson, but will definetley NOT be my last! BRAVO!!

Take a risk on a fresh romance!
Vicki Lewis Thompson is not a newcomer to the romance genre, but her debut single title release, A NERD IN SHINING ARMOR, shines with a fresh, risky perspective that enthralled me. Her trademark humor and ultra-hot love scenes are the perfect foundation for this quirky, not-the-least-bit-average story.

Genevieve Terrance thinks she has everything all figured out. A secretary at a software firm, Gen is convinced that her boss, Nick Brogan, is the man for her--sexy, sophisticated and charming. He's just the type of man Gen wants, particularly since she's worked pretty hard to shed her hillbilly upbringing. She's certain that once she gets him into bed, she'll be able to show him the true love he's been missing in his life.

Too bad Nick has other plans...and too bad Gen can't see the nerd in shining armor that is her co-worker, Jackson Farley...until they're stranded together on an island and engaging in one hot affair.

To contrast this incendiary storyline, Thompson introduces a secondary plot regarding Jackson's boss and Genevieve's mother. The sweet, emotional depth of this secondary story provides just the right balance to the hot and heavy goings-on between Jack and Gen. Add to the mix Gen's outrageous younger brother, her hilarious hillbilly past, and a tense suspense plot, and you've got a book that has everything a reader could want.

I just ordered the novella collection, INVITATIONS TO SEDUCTION, that Thompson has out next month with Carly Phillips and Janelle Denison. Then I'll be going back to my keeper shelf to re-read a few of the outstanding books she's written to date (particularly Harlequin Blaze's NOTORIOUS and Temptation's LOVERBOY.) This is one author that a romance reader shouldn't miss!
