incandescent and inspiring
positively beautiful. I've loved this book since i was five years old. Because it is out of print it is a shame that not everyone can own it. The illustrations are superb and magickal. I think i like them even better than the poems. Everyone who enjoys the company of faeries should own a copy of this book, so search for it to the ends of this earth and realms beyond if you must. It is a must have!

A great historical review of otology
This book by Dr. House reviews the path of one of modern otology's great founders. It reveals much of the history of otology through the life of the subject of the book, Dr. Howard House. It of course starts with Dr. House's early years and chronicals his training at USC, the eastern U.S., and Germany in pre World War II times. All of the great founders of otology are mentioned with real insights into their personalities and contributions to the science. Virtually the entire history of stapedectomy is told. Truly a great book for anyone interested in the field of otology(such as myself) or an interesting review for those that practice the specialty.

Wonderful and comprehensive!
This book is the result of a life's work in the field by Zimmerman. I work in the pharmaceutical industry and have used it for the last year, and found it to be very complete and detailed. It is a terrific resource. If you need a book that discusses all the aspects of liver injury for all manner of drugs and compounds, this is the book to buy.

How Six Found Christmas
An amazing book!...I first read this to my children over 20 years ago. They loved it then and they still love it now. We read it each year at Christmas but now we include the grandchildren. It is the best example I have seen of the spirit of Christmas. It is presented in a manner that makes the concept of Christmas available to everyone. It should be in every home.

A deeply satisfying tale.
This is one of my favorite books to read to my daughter. The story, (although changed a bit from the original), has a depth to it that can only be felt first hand. The illustrations wonderfully set an enchanted mysterious world, and speak to a part of the soul rarely touched by the average children's fairy tale.

An amazing project
This was an amazing bat mitzvah gift for my daughter (thanks Eve!) that was just in time to help her with her school report on Henrietta Szold. It is causing problems for me, however; this is the second night I've stayed up late reading it, even though I need my sleep. On the other hand, I now know a lot more about Gilda Radner, Judy Blume, Letty Cottin Pogrebin, Golda Meir, the Triangle Shirtwaist fire, Rosalyn Yalow, Molly Picon, Lilith (the magazine), Roseanne, how Jewish women are portayed on television, Jewish women in popular fiction.... This is an amzing project, and a fantastic set of books. I highly recommend this set to anyone who is considering it enough to be reading this.

The Jews of Ireland

Irish Judaism
This book, being a chronicle of Irish Judaism from the earliest times until the early part of this century, is an important contribution to a largely neglected part of Irish history. It contains an introduction by the chief justice of Ireland, and is extremely well researched. For a history of Irish Jews in more recent times, see the new book on the subject by Dermont Keough.

Tiny no-word picture book is fun!
As always, Trina Hyman's intricately detailed illustrations are delightful; Each page of this small book features a letter, illuminated with children in a tiny world of objects that correspond with the letter being illustrated. My three year old friend and I enjoyed an afternoon of "picture hide-&-seek" with the illustrations. It's a fun book for teaching letter-recognition and for keeping the children involved - they can tell YOU about the story in the picture! Plus the tiny format is just the right size for a little child's hands, although perhaps not large enough for more than one child to look at at once.

The Maestro

Toscanini in his time
The author, Howard Taubman, states clearly at the onset of his affecting, personal and fascinating biography of Arturo Toscanini that the maestro would not have allowed it to be published if he'd had the say.
Nonetheless, Mr. Taubman, a music critic with the New York Times, who had many personal encounters with the conductor went ahead with this wonderful account of his life. It is chockablock with information on operas, orchestras, festivals, and musicians encountered in the long life of the little, fiery man from Italy.
I recommend this book to all lovers of music who treasure the memory of an artist dedicated wholly to the art of its creation and presentation.
