Taking Liberty is strong
As soon as I picked up the book I was caught up in the story. I could imagine everything perfectly. there was never a borring moment. Not every book can place you in the time period like this one could.
"I was one of the Gone."

Excellent!!
I was kind of wondering whether or not to order this book. It sounded okay but I am picky to the style of writing the author uses. I was acually a little surprised that the book was so good. It really gives you an idea of what the charecters are like and how they think. I would recomend this book to anybody who likes a good story with alot of emotion.

Another hit for Rinaldi in "Taking Liberty"...
Oney Judge was born on George Washington's famous home, Mt. Vernon. She had grown up there, she loved it there. On the surface, she led a good life. She was a personal favorite to the General and Lady Washington. She was treated like one of the family. Only problem was, Oney was a slave. "Taking Liberty" tells the story of Oney's childhood on Mt. Vernon and her loyalty to the family that loved her. But above all, it tells of her quest for the most basic human right, to be free.

I have often credited my love for history to Ann Rinaldi. Her books are always educational, historically accurate and above all, fun. "Taking Liberty" is her latest book, carrying on her wonderful style. Once again, I have found myself completely drawn in. Anyone, of any age, who enjoys a good story doesn't want to miss this.

History for budding historians
I thought this book would be well over the head of my five-year-old son; it has more words on each page than he's used to (because it is geared for the young reader). This book is so well written that it kept his attention throughout. And when he realized that this was someone he had heard of, he was hooked. Now he wants to know about all the presidents. (He doesn't realize how many of them there are!)

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to start their child down the path of enjoying history.

Wonderful introduction to history
Although I expected this book to be well over the head of my 5-year-old son, he loved it. It was an interesting book that held his attention on its own merits. The pictures, although not as many as he was used to, helped the story along. But when he learned that this was a book about a real person, someone he had heard of, he was thrilled. He's asked me to get him more books about real people. I definitely will.

A children's classic
If you love your young children who are just learning about history, you owe it to yourself and to them to rush and press the order button for this classic kids' book. Lushily and lavishly illustrated, this wonderful tome details the true story of the man who would become the first president of the United States. This book is an excellent start for any young man or woman to get a grip on the early history of our great country. I am choked up as I write these words because I know this incredible book will become an heirloom that I will pass down from generation to generation. This powerful, and moving testiment to the formation of our land will never be forgotten by this impressed reader. It's simply one of the most wonderful books ever written and I thank God for its existence.

George MacDonald's best!
I have read other books by George MacDonald, some of which were translted by Micheal Philips, and this one is by far the best, though they are all great! Micheal Philips translates George MacDonald best out of the translaters that I have come across. George is the best author I've ever came across.

duplicate book
This book is the exact same book (same editor, even same forward) as 'The Maiden's Bequest'.

THE reference source for young women
Not only is this book the most comprehensive, unbiased book on breast cancer in young women I have ever read, I applaud Beth Murphy for taking the time to focus on YOUNG WOMEN with breast cancer, a sorely under-served group. This book takes the reader inside the lives of young survivors. While touching, it is never over-the-top dramatic, and it certainly isn't sappy. Murphy defines the risks of diagnosis in young women in realistic terms - the good with the bad - and does the same for treatment issues with regards to young women. Furthermore, the author doesn't beat around the bush getting to the point that while we've made great advances in breast cancer treatment, research for young women is terribly lacking. She goes on to explain the implications a woman under 40 faces when diagnosed.
Astoundingly, Murphy even manages to discuss the controversial political issues of breast cancer without ever stepping up on a soapbox. She sticks to the facts about who says what, and what questions still go unanswered.

This book is a must have for any woman who wishes to get a real understanding of her health risks where breast cancer is concerned.
Every doctor (particularly those still preaching "you're too young to have breast cancer"!!), nurse, mammography technician, breast health specialist, and breast cancer researcher should read this book and take its message to their jobs.
Every woman under 40 diagnosed with breast cancer, every mother, sister, father, brother, friend, and boyfriend of a young survivor should buy this book immediately.

There is nothing else on the market that even comes close.

a must read for women of all ages!
This book, yes is very touching and quite moving but I think it is the educational aspect of the subject of breast cancer that I found to be the most beneficial from having read the book. The author takes you in a different direction on breast cancer, one that we haven't really seen in most other books on the subject. We are taken on a journey through the lives of these very brave women who were diagnosed with the disease at such a YOUNG age-as we usually see it in older women. I have, like most young women, thought breast cancer is not a real concern for me at my age. I have, until now, relied on my doctor to let me know what health issues he should pursue as given my current medical history ... I am glad I read this book-I am certainly more informed as will my doctor also be during my next visit.

The Glass Cat of Oz

Excellent and entertaining.
Disregarding minor quibbles, I have to say that I have not been so entertained by an Oz book in quite some time, and I admire (i.e., agree with) the way the author handled many Ozzy contraditions and puzzlements. Unlike so many authors, he chooses to address head-on such knotty questions as fashion in Oz, change in Oz and in Ozzy characters, etc. that have mostly been unanswered questions until now; I think he provides reasonable and workable answers. I had a hard time putting down this _Cat_. Thanks for a good read, David!

A Must Read for all Oz fans
This delightful addition to Oz-mania is right up there with the Jack Snows and Eloise Jarvis McGraw's Oz stories. Hulan has captured the special flavor of Oz, using Baum's language and puns, and weaving in sly references that will tickle the adult reader while keeping the pace brisk and lively and vivid for the young reader. Highly recommended!!!

Thinking Person's Catcher in the Rye
This is the finest coming of age novel in the known and unknown universe. It has everything..philosophy, memoirs of a world gone by, lots of quirkiness, and a great sense of heart. The best thing of all..is to have a copy of the 1936 edition. The yellowed pages of the edition are a perfect touch for a book written about time gone by.GREAT

A beautiful and moving novel of ideas
One of the finest books of the 20th century, The Last Puritan was a sensation when published in the 1930's. It tells the triumph and tragedy of Oliver Alden, a youth born into a strict, "Progressive" Unitarian family in late 19th Century Boston. As his life progesses, he struggles to reconcile the harsh idealism in which he was raised with the beautifully chaotic nature of the real world. This conflict gives Santayana the ability to discuss God, love, morality, politics and the permanence of human nature all without ever losing sight of one man's heroic and tragic attempt to find his place in a world not meant for him. The Last Puritan remains the only book that has ever driven me to tears, and the only novel that has ever truly changed my life. If you've ever counted yourself a "lost soul" in the world, this book will hit home like nothing you've ever read.

Every young woman should read this!!!!
I think every young woman should read this. Great readability-you get the feeling the author is speaking right to you-on subjects any young woman could use input on. Any parent would want their daughter to know about, and take to heart, the contents of this book.

A Young Woman After God's Own Heart
This book is brilliant with loads of insight to help teens develop their own personal walk with God.
George writes in a warm engaging manner encouraging the reader to be proactive in their pursuit of a heart that marches to the beat of Gods drum!
Each chapter is filled with helpful suggestions rounded off with with a challenging heart response, a practical "to Do List" to help motivate & a short bible study.
I am presently working through this book with my 11 year old daughter & it's providing her with the tools to move on in her christian walk without me being there.

Not for all but unquestionably for some
Horn Book's review speaks for itself--if the standard is craftily turned sentences and plot, and amoral treatment of subject, this book is a failure. But for the reader who is able to be touched by the most tender family feelings and deep religious devotion; who believes that innocence and trust is the natural and desirable state for children; and who prefers words and ideas of plainspoken kindness and high hope, this book will satisfy, inspire, and confirm the best in us.
