A WONDERFUL BOOK TO LEARN WITH!
THIS BOOK IS BEAUTIFULLY DRAWN, THE WRITING IS SWEET AND WITTY. IT TEACHES TOLERANCE AND THE DIFFERENCES OF BEING OLD AND QUITE YOUNG. PATIENCE AND GIVING ALSO LEARNED. IT IS A LOVELY STORY OF GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER. I JUST LOVE IT. IT IS NOT YOUR USUAL RUN OF THE MILL STORIES...AT THE END MY DAUGHTER WANTS TO MAKE LEMONADE...SHE IS ALMOST FOUR. I HOPE YOU WILL ENJOY THIS WITH YOUR CHILDREN SOON!

Lemons Into Lemonade
Beautifully illustrated, this book tells the story of young Molly, a girl who thinks she's too old for a babysitter. Enter Mr. Herbert "from down the street. He had on the same rumpled sweater and polka dot bow tie he always wore." Molly thinks of ways to get him to quit, but clever Mr. Herbert's flexible nature and equanimity serve him well: "I don't need a babysitter!" Molly declared. "I'm too big!" Mr. Herbert...made his tangly eyebrows bounce. "You'll have to teach me what babysitters do."

As Mr. Herbert meets all her "challenges" with good humor and aplomb--never going out of character just to get her approval-- Molly warms up to the older man. They discover that they have a few things in common, and Molly learns that she can be babysat without losing her dignity. A wonderful book, it conveys that adults can meet children on their level without giving up their own.

An excellent approach to learning Hawai'ian
Ecellent approach to the language where the Hawai'ian and English are separated. The movement through the laguage is very practical. Maika'i noo.

A very good book to work with
This is a first-rate book. I certainly recommend it as a good place to start for anyone interested in keeping this beautiful language alive (and it is also is a good point of departure for anyone interested in Polynesian languages in general.) Each lesson begins with a section of sentences that introduce new grammatical patterns as well as new vocabulary, and at the end of each lesson each pattern and each usage is explained very thoroughly. The lessons progress from each one to the next very smoothly. Many of the exercises and drills are clearly intended to be done in a classroom setting, but it isn't too difficult to adapt them to home use.

inspiring
This book contains the highlights and experiences of Dorothy Day, the founder of the Catholic Worker Movement. It is a very enjoyable book. The philosophy and beliefs are brought out in a series of experiences, many of them humorous, about the unique characters, role models and lessons learned in trying to adopt an early Christian communal attitude to charity and bring it to the streets of New York City. Dorothy Day lived her beliefs intently. Over the decades it resulted in running many urban soup kitchens, Hospitality houses, a farm or two, along with publishing the Catholic Worker Newspaper and authoring this very inspiring book.. This book will make you think,

A deeply moving book, from a sorely needed voice
At a time when the "mainstream" media insists on appointing the Christian Coalition and other groups of their ilk as voices of the Gospel in todays world, we are reminded of how much the life, words, and witness of Dorothy Day and the Catholic Worker are needed. Back in print in the handsome edition, "Loaves and Fishes" tells the history of the movement founded by Day and Peter Maurin. In an era when far too many associate Christianity with indifference to Christ's poor, and the embracement of intolerant and spiteful political agendas, the voice of prophets like Day are sorely needed.

I'm as happy as can be to have found you Mrs. T . . .
The Cooksey children growing up in the '50s and '60s were as lucky as lucky can be, we had a mother who read to us. And our favorite Little Golden Book was -- alas -- Lucky Mrs. Ticklefeather. Sadly, after six children the great storybook of Mrs. Ticklefeather and her puffin Paul was literally read to death and the book disintegrated. We, the six children, grew up and had children of our own and in the grand tradition of storytime, searched high and low for a copy of this darling book. I could still remember just how the cover looked with Mrs. T and her puffin playing their violins. I have yet to pass a "tall, tall, terribly tall building" and not wonder if in fact it might be where Mrs. Ticklefeather still resides. In the dear lady's honor, I too love sunflowers. I can hardly believe my good fortune to have found this favorite book. My sons are too old, but my granddaughter, born seven months ago, will have the book waiting on her Nonnie's shelf for when she is a little older and can hear the story. This is such an endearing story, I cannot understand why it didn't become the classic that the "Saggy, Baggy Elephant" did -- I shall simply rejoice that we've found it now in a re-issue.

Mrs. Ticklefeather and Friend Are Both Back !
I came upon this reissue quite by accident and laughed out loud to see it available once again. This was one of my favorite childhood books, given to me at Christmas of 1952. Even at the time of its original issuance, the old-fashioned Mrs. Ticklefeather, her Puffin named Paul, the rather antiquated language, and of course, the wonderful illustrations of J.P. Miller all worked together to make this book a delight for young children, probably ages 4-8. The silly situations that the policeman finds while in search of the missing Paul add humor which a young child will enjoy. If the late author, Dorothy Kunhardt, were alive today, she'd be thrilled to know that yet another generation of young children are poised and ready to enjoy her book again. But then again, Little Golden Books always did know what children liked to read!

Amazing!
Melbury Square gives a wonderful look into the life of a wealthy young girl in the turn of the century and how her road of reality is at times paved with Criso. I've read it twice and I am sure I'll read it again. It is truely amazing!

Stunning Melburies
Dorothy Eden has a way of sweeping you into the life of Maud Lucie, a spoiled and arrogant young girl in the Victorian England. Experience her highs and lows of lost love and self punishment. This was the most exceptional book I have read. I found myself crying, laughing and falling in love, over and again. Through Maud's eyes, I found a lesson on life.

Think it can't happen in your town...
I read this book in one sitting and it scared the hell out of me. I never thought I would see the towns of Chambersburg, Waynesboro and Greencastle in a nationally publized book but I did. You think it can't happen in your town...think again. The story of Debbie Sue Kline is one of heartbreak, cruelty and sadness. The pictures in the back also helped develop a more clear picture. Highly recommended book!

couldn't happen here
Living in the town in which these events happened makes this story even more gripping. Going to school with Debbie, knowing her family, and seeing the news headlines everyday, brings lifes fears closer to the small towns of America. If you think it can't happen in your town, think again. The writers were there on the scene everyday, which makes every word in this book, truer than true. Enjoy and stay safe.

FINALLY! A BOOK THAT WORKS FOR UPPER EL
This book is by far the most beneficial I have found for my upper elementary students struggling to improve their reading skills. It gives simple, step by step instructions for each of the activities and requires very little planning time for the teacher. EVERY child can succeed at improving reading skills, and the activities are appropriate for older students. They do not feel like they are doing 'baby' lessons- an issue I have dealt with when using other phonics books.

Second Chance for Upper Grade Readers
This is an excellent choice for teachers who wish to implement a phonics program that can really work for upper grades. The book is divided into months. Each month there are activities ready to be used. The activities are categorized into four specific goals. Once you learn how to teach the four goals for the first month, you will be prepared to teach the same lessons again the next month, of course, using different words.

The phonics activities help students notice spelling patterns in words through clever activities that the older kids will enjoy. For instance, there are phonics lessons based on brand names! I highly recommend this program because it will give upper grade students the chance to learn how to spell high frequency words, to identify spelling patterns in big and small words, to monitor their spelling, and to use root/prefix/suffix parts of words to define and spell words.

This book is suitable for 4-8 grades. It includes lessons that will last for nine months of the school year. Teachers on year round schooling will also be able to use this book. Each lesson should take between 15-30 minutes, depending on the teacher's scehdule. This is an excellent book for upper grade teachers!
