This book very quickly introduced me to Rumi whom I now consider one of the great spiritual teachers in my life. He loved God so deeply and his words exude this love in a way which is infectious. Helminski has done a great job of breaking out small fragments from the larger body of Rumi's work and has presented them in a format for easy assimilation. Each bite-sized piece though, is extremely profound and capable of capturing the attention for a lifetime of purposeful remembering. I never feel bored with Rumi's writings and refer to his words often to find that spiritual refreshment to make it through, what would otherwise be, trying days. Helminski's translation seems superior to other translations I have read of Rumi's words. Though I'm not capable of comparing it to the orignal, Helminski's translations sing for me like no others do. A most rewarding book and now a valued frequent companion for me.

I own a very old (1953 Edition) of "The Scrabble Word Guide" with over 30,000 Words From Funk & Wagnalls New College Standard Diction. Foreword by James Brunot, of Scrabble fame. I love this book and have since purchased The Third Edition of The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary and DO NOT LIKE IT as well. I would like to purchase three (3) copies of Jacob Orleans and Edmund Jacobson's "The Scrabble Word Guide" for family and friends. This is an excellent and easy to follow word book.

"The Selected Writings of Jean Genet" by Edmund White is arguably the best book to read if you are not familiar with Genet's writing. White is a biographer of Genet, but more importantly he is a great fan. The book includes his brief comments at the beginning of all the excerpts, which include portions of novels, plays, short stories, essays, and an interview. The comments lay out some background information which a first-time Genet reader will find useful. After reading this book, I read many of Genet's works and each time found myself referring to "Selected Writings" for added help in understanding and analysis

This was arguably the greatest book that I have ever read on any topic. Not only was it a great account of General Willie T.'s life, but it also gave great insight into the real meaning of life. If anyone is looking for an answer to anything, then this is the book for you.

This is a selection published by Everyman of Edmund Spenser's shorter poems, in other words, the stuff he wrote besides The Faerie Queene. The poems it contains are "The Shepherds' Calendar," "Muiopotmos: Or, the Fate of the Butterfly," "Colin Clout's Come Home Again," "Amoretti and Epithalamion," and "Prothalamion." As you can see by the titles, this edition publishes the poems in modernized spelling.

I would recommend this book mostly to people who are just starting to read Spenser. People are often intimidated by his Elizabethan spelling, and this edition can help a beginner get past that. Plus, at about 195 pages of poems, it's a compact selection of the best of Spenser. But for the more devoted admirer of Spenser, I suggest getting the Penguin Classics edition of "The Shorter Poems" of Edmund Spenser. It prints all his shorter poems in Spenser's original spelling. I don't know if that particular edition is available in the U.S. yet, but you can currently purchase it through Amazon.com.uk.

Excellent Book!!!! This book was a required reading for my Modern Social Theory course. I didn't think I would enjoy it, however, I absolutely loved it! It was humorous while hinting at the darker parts of our postmodern society. I would suggest this book to anybody and everybody! Thank you Don Dellilo

I must say that The Silent Woman is not only one of the best books I have read by Edward Marston, yet one of the best books I have ever read period. Edward has given it the best qualities a mystery novel should have and he has with out a doubt turned it into something special!

Sir Edmund Hillary & the People of Everest is a marvelous book about an extraordinary man. Ms. Ramsay's text tells the compelling story of Sir Edmund's courage as an explorer and of his commitment as a great humanitarian.

The photographs, by Anne Keiser, depict the beauty and remoteness of the Everest region as well as the special charm of the Sherpa people.

The book celebrates Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's ascent of Everet in 1953. An incredible feat for any time, and is all the more remarkable for the lack of equipment today's generation of climbers take for granted.

With the conquest of Everest began Hillary's lifelong devotion to the Sherpa people, a commitment that has guided his life. The reader has no doubt as to the mutual appreciation of benefactor and beneficiaries. His generosity truly transformed the Sherpa community. His sense of purpose is an inspiration. It is the kind of inspiration required in today'w world, where human need is so apparent.

The text is enhanced by wonderfully rich personal interviews.

As a devoted fan of the "canon" of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's works, I thought "Sherlock Holmes in Dallas" was terrible. It might well be sub-titled "Holmes and Watson Read The Warren Report To Each Other.". The most ridiculous parts are the slanderous chapters about Dallas. Dallas isn't a perfect place, but it's certainly not a place "whose very atmosphere seemed to breathe some menace." It is obvious Mr.Ions was not acquainted with the Oak Cliff section of Dallas where Oswald's rooming house was located, for he mentions the "liquor stores" on the
"drab, suburban streets"......Oak Cliff has been "dry" forever !
I think the book is best summed up with Holmes statement.....
"I said at the outset that I would not be able to solve this, my last case, and I confess a sense of failure." There are a few good chapters, but not really in the best of the Holmes pastiches. Finally, Holmes remarks, "I feel old, Watson...."
No wonder.....if still alive, he would have been 109 years old in 1963. The best that can be said about the book is that it makes for amusing reading if one does not take it too seriously.

This book presents a scholarly analysis of the events surrounding the JFK assassination, in a readable format--while faithfully capturing the essence of interplay between Holmes and Watson as they might bring their analytical prowess to bear on this historical puzzle. After seeing the movie JFK, I had the distinct impression that someone within the Oliver Stone company had been influenced by this book. This is an ideal book to take to the beach or cottage on a short vacation.
