Excellent book for the average golfer.
As any golfer knows, at least 100 different parts of the golf swing have to be working in concert for the mythical perfect shot to happen--sometimes it does, more often it doesn't.
Puett and Apfelbaum make golf's secrets a bit more accessible to the average player by providing a handy reference book for reviewing the basics of all shots and explaining away some of the mysteries. Straightforward information, broken down into understandable components and accompanied by good drawings and some helpful swing thoughts, offers a frustrated golfer the chance to review the "rights" of the swing before s/he becomes too frustrated. Too comprehensive and detailed to be read as a text, it's the perfect book to use as a refresher, to pick up and put down as the need arises, and I've never failed to find some helpful reminder here which makes a difference after a less than wonderful round.

Barbara Puett's only teacher was the legendary Harvey Penick, so positive in his approach that she "never knew [she] ever did anything wrong in the golf swing." By accentuating the positive and reinforcing the fundamentals, she aims to continue his legacy and is largely successful in this book. The one thing that this positive philosophy does not address, however, is the fact that golf is a mental game, too, and not all of us are gifted with this inherently upbeat outlook. A chapter on how to deal with the emotional funk which sometimes accompanies a day spent hitting worm balls out of the weeds would also be welcome. Mary Whipple

Great book for those who want to learn the game.
I enjoyed the book for its "down home" approach to golf. It didn't fill my head with unnecessary swing thoughts and ideas. Simple, straight forward with great visual keys to help both on the range and on the course. Great job...Barbara, Jim and Eddy!!!.

a clear, simple and artistic look at golf basics.
I enjoyed reading the book and using the visual keys to help reinforce what I had read. Barbara and Jim have made an enjoyable golf read that doesn't bog down the mind. After reading the book, I went out and used the keys they suggested...they work!!..and its so simple..study the basics...study the basics..this book shows you how. I loved the classic illustration work as well.

Sheet Music
This book is actually a book of sheet music for Duane Eddy's songs. There are only a few pages about Duane Eddy's life. So if you want to play like the great Duane Eddy it rates a 5 but if you want his life story it offers very little.-- A Duane Eddy Fan Larry Betz

A Family that makes it their affair.
I happened to find this book at an old bookstore and bought it for a few dollars. I would have paid the going rate on a paperback for it though.

While the story may not be that different from any other book, the characters pull you in.

Charlie who grows up in a small town admiring families that had more than he did. He goes looking for the care free beauty Polly Chambers and finds Lucy the older sister.

He marries Lucy and finds out that marrying into a prominent family may not be all that it is cracked up to be. A mother in law that is the master of manipulation and is training her daughter to be her protégée. Charlie's father in law is beaten down by a business that he never wanted to run and a wife that is more the brains behind the operation that anyone will admit. Polly who helps her family earn the title of dysfunctional.

After Lucy and her mother orchestrate Charlie going to work at the business, he starts to find out who he is and what he is made of. Temptation comes his way from a sassy neighbor and he learns that he has to put his foot down or he too could become the mouse of a man his father in law has become. When he finally lays the law down for his wife Lucy, it makes you want to stand up and cheer.

It's an interesting book to read. A quick read with a delightful ending.

Very useful keys
I have used this book in numerous fish surveys in Michigan, and have found the keys to be extremely useful, easy to use, and well illustrated. It and Scott & Crossman's "Freshwater Fishes of Canada" are almost the only fish ID books I use. A caveat - its broad geographic scope makes it less useful than regional keys, if they exist for your area.

The Lay Ministry Revolution: How You Can Join
Published in Paperback by Baker Book House (October, 1995)
Authors: Eddy Hall and Gary Morsch
Amazon base price: $9.99
Used price: $4.88
Average review score:

A Well Constructed Tool for Inspiring Lay Ministry
I read this book immediatly after finishing William Easum's "Sacred Cows Make Gourmet Burgers", the messages from both were similar, despite a large separation in point-of-view. Hall and Morsch seem to be looking at lay ministry from the more evangelical end of the reformed faith. Easum from the heavily structured "mainline" churches. I had not considered the possibility that there might be just as many problems in broadening the meaning of ministry for the faith communities which are more grounded in the spiritual as those with a more secular ministry - we are all wandering sinners. The text is filled with provocative stories followed by just enough analytical insight to start an interesting discussion(or many)about the role of the laity in the church of the Third Millenium. Good points are made about how the early church embraced lay ministry, how it was lost, and how it can be cultivated anew. This book is a fine stand alone read for those who are exploring ways to empower their own ministry but would best be used in a small-group study setting as fully one third of it is devoted to guidance in using it for such. It would work well as a midweek-evening dinner-group study or for a short Sunday school session. Find your spiritual gifts and become part of the revolution!

A great introduction to Marxism
It is a shame that this is out of stock. I recently read this book and it helped me understand the basic tenets of Marxism more clearly. It does this in an interesting way: a dialogue between three people with varying positions on Marxism and history. Very good introduction to Marxism.

Great she-wolves...it's pay back time
The universe of werewolf the apocalypse is very dark, filled with hate and abuse. In real life lots of stupid persons hit their ladies...well...the Black Furies hit back.

Some people will find it weird the way the main characters behave, they don't seem to be human, they kill a guy in an instant (just because this guy tried to seduce you in a silly way), but surprise...they aren't Humans, they are werewolves...worst, they are from the tribe of the black furies, and they don't take [junk] from anyone, especially a male ape.

Now technically speaking, the choice of not collouring this comic was very intelligent, it's scarier this way; the drawing is very strong and competent as is the story.
