You know what a ponton is
The book is very well detailed , has nice cover , also it has a good size, quite portable to exhibitions and antique autoshows, It is the best guide i have ever read refering to the mercedes Benz Models 1940-1959. The two biggest inconvient of the books are its non color photos and the low details of the photos, yes the photos are totaly original but they are shot from a long distance (10-15 feet )away from the car , there are only 3 or 4 good photos detailing the interior , this is particulary useful if you are a restorer

Second Edition
The book is a good history of the St. Croix River that is now the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. The book was originally written in 1964/5 and this version is only updated in the introduction so the history ends before Congress passed the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
Dunn does give a thorough history of the river prior to 1965. The book is a good read especially if you are from the Minnesota Wisconsin area.

Great book on the history of the Triumph Spitfire and GT6
A very good book, with lots of details I had not found elsewhere about the history and evolution of the Triumph Spitfire and GT6. Great details about the design, reasons for changes made and not made, and the effects of American Legislation forced on Britsh Leyland during the nineteen-seventies. There are plenty of pictures to please the eyes of any Triumph afficionado, but I wish there had been more in color. The details about custom updates and modifications were particularly interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Recommended!

The perfect gift for any gentleman
This is a typical gift for a yacht's owner. You will not only find classical boats from the late century. You will also find famous recent boats from America's Cup. You will love to receive such a gift if you own a nice house overlooking the ocean. This book is not technical at all, however; it emphasizes on sailing boats aesthetics.

Marketing Planning: A Step-By-Step Guide

A template drowning in rudimentary business babble
I was disappointed - the obvious differentiator for this book is the worksheets to create what will ultimately be a standard, templated Marketing Plan.

Unfortunately that can only be accomplished by wading through lessons on Rudimentary Business including blinding insight such as "Coupons are certificates, usually paper that can be used by your customers . . ." (p. 287) and "the only good marketing strategy is one you can successfully execute" (p. 110). This is juxtaposed with the (unfounded) arrogance of comments like: "these three sections are an integrated course that every MBA program should include and that almost none actually do." (p. xvi).

I want a refund.

The author replies to Conrad Saam
Since Conrad Saam quotes phrases that do not appear anywhere in my book, I am at a loss to respond to comments. Perhaps he has my book confused with some other book.

WOW! When you've finished reading, you've finished the plan!
After trudging through book after book only to find unhelpful fluff I stumbled across this one. Thank you Mr. Taylor. I found this writing easy to read, easy to follow, easy to understand, and it actually provided me with the tools required to develop a useful marketing plan, both for public consumption and internal improvements!

The worksheets were to the point and quite eye opening as well. My only recommendation (for us illiterates) would be to offer one of each of the worksheets filled out, to be used as examples, possibly like an answer key in the back of the book.

For those writing their first marketing plan, this is the book you're searching for.

You Shouldn't Have To Pay For This Information
I don't know why, but for some reason, I thought this would be a repair manual. I purchased a used Miata and wanted to get to know its inner workings because, with an older car, you have to get it fixed a lot.

I ordered this book and it is basically a collection of little articles heaping praise on the vehicle, giving history and so on. If I wanted that kind of information, I could have visited the Miata web site or walked into a Mazda showroom.

I imagine there is a certain kind of auto enthusiast who really enjoys this kind of generic information, but it isn't too useful for someone like me, who wants to flip the book open and set it on the fender next to the open hood of the car.

Sold on the Miata
I read this book when considering the purchase of a sports car, and it sold me on the Miata. I bought the car a week later. Very positive perspective and professional tone kept me riveted. Even though I normally don't enjoy detailed automotive description, Taylor's fine writing covered the ground in an easy and fluid way. His interweaving of the history of the Miata throughout the last decade was superb. Nine chapters include fabulous color photographs depicting international and local production, modifications and how to purchase and own. This book is highly recommended for those who own Miatas and those who desire them. I am happy to report that I am now in the ownership category, and incidentally, my new Miata is twilight blue.

Nostalgia to the Future
Three weeks ago I purchased a new Miata, after being away from sports cars for 25 years. (TR3+BMW 2000ti) Oh how I wish I had gotten back into it sooner. It has been so much fun. I purchased the book last week, finished it and loved it. The book told the story of the early British influence, Triumphs, Healeys, etc, on the design, development and marketing of the Miata, brought it thru 1999. The struggles, hopes, fears of the individuals in the company, and the process of internal competition to ferret out the best car with a very high emphasis on handling and suspension. Wow, and the discussion about lack of Miata restoration projects, why, because the oldest ones don't need to be restored, they are still in great condition. And to think, I almost purchased an MR2, now, Maita's forever. The book gave me great background and justification for my exuberance.

Soild Effort
This is a solid bit of historical reference. The book is well laid out and easy to use. It is not the "complete" guild but it does cover about 95% of what the general reader would be looking for. The items that are not in there would probably only be looked up by the real hard core World War 2 fan. I would have preferred a few more pictures and maps. Overall this book gives you what you need in an easy to use format.

Good, basic info on the rise of Nazism and WWII Germany
A good addition to any collection of references on Nazism and WWII. This compact book contains not only a chronology of the years from 1933-45 but an alphabetized dictionary containing all the major names, events, military operations(including codenames and areas), etc. If you're at a loss for the name of a person or event from this time, this book could come to your aid. Also makes for quick reading when you have a moment or two, reminding you of information you might have forgotten. Recommended.

Good for rank beginners
This was the first Portuguese dictionary I owned. When I was learning Portuguese I had some Brazilian pen-pals who helped me. Some sent magazine articles. There were quite a few words that I couldn't find in the dictionary (dica="hint", for example). Save your money on this one. Instead, get Random House Webster's pocket Portuguese dictionary (0-679-40060-5) [great for obscure, slang words!] or Collins Gem Portuguese dictionary (0-00-472409-7).

Good dictionary with some exceptional points.
This is the dictionary owned by my Brazilian fiancee and she loves it. In regards to the other review stating that there are some omissions, I have found that all dictionaries have omissions, and to be a serious student of the language you should own at least three. This one has the huge advantage of giving phonemic pronunciation guides for all words, unlike many Portuguese dictionaries including the Random House Websters, which I also own and is indeed very complete. Overall I would recommend it as a valuable addition to your Portuguese reference bookshelf.

Disappointing
I am a big fan of James Taylor, own over a dozen of his CDs, have seen him in concert numerous times, and had the pleasure of meeting him on Martha's Vineyard. I looked forward to Halperin's unauthorized biography of JT, but was ultimately disappointed. It is poorly written, poorly organized, and unbalanced. Halperin writes more about Mr. Taylor's sex life than he does his music. An entire chapter is devoted to his relationship with Joni Mitchell, and over a third discusses in boring detail his marriage to Carly Simon. Three quarters of the book covers Mr. Taylor's life from the age of 18 to 30 with little on the last 20 years of his life!

I give Mr. Halperin one star for the obvious work he put into the book and another star for the little bit of insight I gained into Mr. Taylor's life. For true JT fans who want to learn more about him, I would recommend sticking to the numerous interviews he has given over the years, or better yet, just listen to his music.

Music's Fascinating Troubadour
James Taylor, one of the biggest names in the music industry, evokes memories of brilliance, peace and genuine good music. Fire And Rain tells the tale of how this fascinating musician struggled his way to the top. This book definitely reaffirms the legitimacy of Taylor as the godfather of the folk-rock era. Perhaps the chapters about the early part of his career were too long drawn out. But the information is valuable because there has not been much written about Taylor in the past. I thought the chapter about how the Beatles discovered young Taylor in England was fascinating. I didn't know how much Paul McCartney influenced the direction of his career. One thing for sure, this book is well balanced and portrays Taylor in a positive way. Music fans from the early 70s should read this book. It will bring back lots of great memories.

Interesting and Entertaining
James Taylor is my favorite singer of all time. This bio was well worth reading. It is the first book about pop's legendary troubadour. Excellent anecdotes and facts about James's life. In fact, the stuff about his early days is most interesting. I highly recommend this book to all pop and folk music junkies.
