Harnessing MicroStation/J(tm)
Harnessing MicroStation/J is an adequate learning tool for beginners, but suffers from a lack of advanced topics. Several high level features are not even mentioned, ie. b-spline curves and surfaces and plot tables. The index is very weak. The few entries that are there, use obscure program names for features, instead of common subject names.

This won't replace the User or Reference Guide for MicroStation/J, you will want to keep them at hand. It does give a good second look at the basic concepts in MicroStation.

An Excellent Choice
I am a Vocational Professor at Amarillo College in the Computer Assisted Design department. I have used different editions of this text for years to teach the MicroStation courses in our department. He covers basics thoroughly and provides excellent exercises using practical working drawings. My advanced course includes customization and 3D topics, all of which are included in this text. I recommend it highly.

Piano and Chords but no Tab!
Its great to have JT music at all, and I agree with the earlier reviewer that its definitely worth having. However, he appears to be saying that "The guitar TAB is useful", and I purchased this book from the UK site on that basis. Imagine my chagrin when I find that it is piano and chords only, but no TAB.

So, generally useful, but nothing like as useful as guitar tablature would be.

no frills no photos music/tab/lyrics
JT's sheet music can be very hard to find (try and find the sheet music for "NEW MOONSHINE") buy it while its in print. beyond that this is very well done, the lyrics are accurate and the guitar tab is very helpful. I play guitar and find it very difficult at times to find the right chords on some of his songs, JT has his own way and some of the chord voicings can be hard to duplicate, this book is a great help.I have old sheet music for James going back over twentyfive years, Im sure that as time goes by I will return to this book just as I do my older music, there is always something new to learn or review. This sheet music book is help not hype.

Good but lacks items to watch out for when buying used
Like most of the current books on Land Rover you get a sense of where Land Rovers' roots are and where the company is headed today under the watchful eyes of BMW who bought Rover in 1994. Unlike the books about the Range Rover model of the Land Rover line-up you don't get a true picture of maintence items to watch out if you want to buy a used "Utility" as they are also known.

However, since I work as a Land Rover Technician in the US I might lean toward a more rounded technical book then most people. Still, if the reader has an interest about those rugged, square Defenders or Series 3 trucks rolling around them this book goes a long way in explaining what they are all about.

Good general information about 90's and 110's.
I thought this book had a lot of good general information about the history of the coil sprung Land Rover.

Classic Speedboats with a continental flavour!
This book was originally published in France. Sometimes its translation from French has to be read through. Other than that, this is an excellent book with excellent period and contempory photography. If you are interested in "Classic Speedboats" with a European bent on history, this is one fine source book.

Gorgeous Photographs and Balanced, Brief Biography
The strength of this book lies in the many beautiful photographs of Elizabeth Taylor from her childhood to recent times. Many of these images will be familiar, and many will not be. By putting rare images in this collection, the author has significantly enhanced its value. I wish the book had added another 100 photographs to the 100 plus, mostly color, ones here.

The biography is perfectly adequate, but it is too brief to really get into any detail that might expand your knowledge very much beyond what you know already. The best aspects were putting Ms. Taylor's career in perspective. She performed in around 65 films and television movies, a number matched by few actors of her era. She also was one of the few child stars to have an adult film career. Further, she outlived most of the stars she appeared with by many years. Despite ill health and many accidents, she has been the ultimate survivor in the most fickle business we have.

The main story line of the biography is in the transformation of her life and career roles from child, to child actress, to child star, to multiply married person and mother, to adult star, to a celebrity, to an entrepreneur, and then to a social activist for AIDS. Long before Madonna, Ms. Taylor and her advisors were expert at reinventing her in ways that were almost continuously popular with the public.

Today, the world is changing very rapidly and most of us will have many different jobs and careers before we die. After you finish enjoying this book, I urge you to consider what lessons you can draw from Ms. Taylor's career and life that can help you in yours. While many would be thrilled to have some of her fame, few would envy her pain. How came a good balance of life and career be yours? I suggest that you read Anna Quindlen's recent book, A Short Guide to a Happy Life, for more ideas.

Smile, be interesting, be balanced, be careful, and be interested in others!

Exalted's second hardcover sourcebook is finally here!
Exalted: the Lunars is the second hardcover sourcebook for White Wolf's exciting Exalted RPG. The book starts with an introduction vignette, featuring several characters from the main rulebook. Next are two chapters of background, one about the Lunar Exalted themselves and their society and the other about the barbarian tribes they usually come from (and, in some cases, lead). I particularly enjoyed the shapeshifting Charms, numerous amounts of which are detailed in the book, along with two-page write-ups for each Caste similar to the Solar Castes in the main rulebook and the Dragon-Blooded Aspects in Exalted: the Dragon-Blooded (which is also a superbly-written book that I highly recommend). The book also contains an entire chapter of storytelling ideas (for those of you who aren't familiar with White Wolf's games...the Storyteller is similar to a Dungeon Master or Game Master) with info on how to possibly integrate the other types of Exalted into a Lunars story.

The one thing I didn't like about this book was the fact that it's a slight bit shorter than Exalted: the Dragon-Blooded, although it does cover the Lunar Exalted in much detail.

Intriguing travel in sub-Arctica by a fascinating woman
Elizabeth Taylor, one of those indomitable Victorian women who hiked their skirts and explored where even tough moderns would pause, faced the wilds of northern Canada and of the Faroe Islands. The miserable weather etched the inhabitants but didn't faze our guide.

Taylor was neither a sentimentalist nor a cynic but saw clearly and wrote straight. Trained as an artist and enamored of nature--especially birds and flowers--Taylor appreciated people who lived closest to her beloved surroundings. By her account, they responded to her interest by inviting her to share their hard-bitten lives and without pretense, she accepted their invitations.

Taylor financed her economic travels by writing for middle class magazines, like Frank Leslie's, and for outdoors magazines where a female byline was a rarity. These essays come from those published pieces and some journals archived in her hometown, Minneapolis. A descendent has assembled the collection, but the task had real literary and cultural value that counts for much more than familial duty.

A book about places few of us ever would want to visit became for me a book full of passages worthy of reading to friends. A description of the whale hunt, for example, rings with authority and subdued horror. Elizabeth Taylor emerges as her own modest heroine, and her quiet, gemhard descriptions stay alive long after the book is finished.

Developing a Successful Advertising Plan
This book is an eloquent statement of how you must communicate to overcome the clutter and confusion in your reader's mind. The authors make a strong point: Pick out something unique that matches the needs of some customers and differentiates you from the competition, and keep repeating your message. Do not dilute your message or broaden your positioning. I have seen many of my clients waste hundreds of millions of dollars by failing to heed these lessons, and I was delighted when I first read this book so that I could refer my clients to it. Read this book, use its lessons, and you will vastly increase your influence. In my own work, I find that 'stalled' thinking that delays organizational progress is normally influenced by poor communications. Some of the other stalls are tradition, disbelief, bureaucracy, procrastination, unattractiveness, and misconceptions. Learn your challenge your thinking habits in these areas, and you can have twenty times as much or the same results 20 times faster.

James Taylor's Greatest Hits
This book of sheet music is ideal for the acoustic guitar player who wants to learn more about the "James Taylor Style" of playing.

Taylor uses many guitar chords in his songs that are not normally seen by the everage guitar player. Every song in this collection of his early hits has specific chord diagrams to help you through the difficult learning process.

I have gotten many hours of pure enjoyment from this book and anticipate many years of the same.

If you are a James Taylor fan, this is a "must buy." You will not regret it!
