A weird look at the world of science fiction conventions
This book rings true from the fans putting together a fanzine at the last minute to the various antics around the World Science Fiction Convention. Throw in some aliens to make it interesting and you get hilarity. Very off-the-wall, but science fiction fans will love it!

Summary
A short but encompassing summary of Lindbergh's life. Unlike Berg's biography, it omits all but the most important details but gives an accurate overview. Well written and interesting.

Great present for grandfather
I bought this book for my father who has just retired. It is a touching book with beautiful illustrations. My daughter enjoyed it but I think that it is a children's book that an adult would appreciate more than a child. If you are looking for a touching book to give your father-grandfather I would recomend this book.

Hanging memories on a Christmas tree
This doesn't have the ability to move the reader like A CHRISTMAS CAROL but it does offer an unusual and fascinating look at Christmas tree decorations in the 19th century. The stories read like writing exercises but they are true Dickens -- flowery language, ghostly tales. An old man reminisces about the decorations on the tree and his memories of childhood Christmases, beginning with the earliest he can remember.

Illustrations by Robert Ingpen are tender and poetic.

Painfully insightful book by an author with CFIDS
As a newly diagnosed person, this is one of the first books that I read. The explanation of CFIDS and general treatments available is well written. Author sites his specific symptoms and how it has affected his life, which at times is painful to read. My favorite chapters included the one on dealing with family and friends and the interview with the doctor from Massachusetts. This interview lends credibility to the disease and was concise. Happy reading!

A wonderful story and an important work of literature
Charles Chestnutt's A Conjure Woman is a collection of short stories told by a former slave named Julius to a White couple who have recently moved to the South. Written at the turn of the century, Chestnutt was addressing a primarily White audience who were recovering from Reconstruction and were fond of plantation-style literature which looked upon slavery with nostalgia. On the surface, the author seems to be catering to the nostalgic pre-Civil War idea, but in actuality, Julius' stories have a much deeper moral which reveal a harsh and terrible way of life for Blacks of the time. Mixed with elements of magic and conjuring, Julius' seems to be telling fanciful fairy tales, but with a closer look, one realizes that Chestnutt has no fondness or nostalgia for the times of slavery. This is a well-written and thought-provoking book and it is an important novel of America's history.

Interesting book about a little-known period
The author uses rare photographs by a North-American camerman who maintained a studio in Havana during the 1850s. Although the photographs are not crisp (they were taken during the infancy of photography!) they ae very interesting. The background provided by the author is excellent.

Designing Visual Language
It reads kind of like a text book, but the information is very good. I am trying to learn about graphic design in my free time and this book has helped me to better understand the basics of visual communication. I have also reciently read "The non-designers design book", which I also recommend. This book starts at the beginning and helps you to understand what you must do, and take into account in order to make something visually pleasing. It has helped me in my design efforts. The book was lent to me and now I plan on buying it, it was so good. I might even look into the rest of the books in the series. (The Allyn & Bacon series in Technical Communication) All in all a good book. I give it 4 stars
