Very vague and broad
I was very excited when I saw this book hoping it'd open me all of the secrets of not-known-until-now world of HDL Synthesis. How wrong I was. The title is very misleading, the book spends just a few pages on synthesis. Overall, this book might be useful for a novice, but even for me, an undergrad ECE major, it turned out to be almost useless. It contains minimum of factual information, often outdated(and this is critical in the ECE world), and only slightly touches the surface on a number of topics it tries to cover. I think the authors whould have concentrated on something specific, instead of giving "what happened in Computer Engineering in last 15 years" review.

Excellent Treatment of Verilog and PLD Methodology
I have been a user of VHDL for the last three years and am now beginning to use Verilog, mostly because I am now doing ASIC development. For the new Verilog user, this book is excellent because it covers the gamut for an HDL and FPGA designer -- the syntax of the language, the difference between structural and behavioral constructs, simulation, hierarchical design, and of course the ubiqituous State Machine. Also included are some sections on targeting different types of technology, including standard cell. I found this book quite useful compared to other Verilog books I have purchased.

One of the Best Verilog books to learn from
I have been searching for an Verilog book that will allow me to get up to speed quickly for an particular project. I wanted something that presented the syntax of the language in an clear manner but more importantly would give me an methodology to allow me to use Verilog in the design of an FPGA. This book seems to have "the right stuff". This book along with "Verilog HDL" by Samir Palnitkar seem to be the best that I have seen for learning Verilog

A wide-ranging but slightly schizophrenic approach
I bought this book as a unix fan wanting a broad technical overview of modern networking, and to some degree got what I expected. The book covers just about everything from 10base-2 to ATM but never actually goes into sufficient detail to provide anything but the broadest of detail - not enough if you're looking to set up a new network (look at Spurgeon's "Practical Networking with Ethernet" instead). Some of the technical details are a little, umm, "shakey" too. As the book is composed by many authors, each bringing their own prejudices, its opinion on issues such as unix veer wildly from total dismissal to full-on smooching, which is rather tiresome. All in all, a decent introduction, but nothing more, despite the book's manic proportions. Too many writers spoil the text.

A solid reference guide for the beginning LAN Admin
This book is a decent starting point to networking. It not only introduces the reader to the different theoretical, logical, and physical aspects of networks, but also gives practical advice and solid guidelines for choosing appropriate network options. As often happens with many technical manuscripts, the book sometimes wanders without a logical flow. In essence, it makes a much better reference manual than a tutorial. The examples given are also trite--leaving the reader with little enhanced understanding at times of some of the various topics covered.

Joseph Smith Fought Polygamy: How Men Nearest the Prophet Attached Polygamy to His Name in Order to Justify Their Own Polygamous Crimes
Published in Hardcover by Precision Pub Co (2000)
Authors: Richard Price and Pamela Price
Amazon base price: $8.00

The Price Anti-Polygamy Theories
This book is not unimportant, especially to those in the Reorganized / Restorationist LDS [Mormon tradition] cultures centered primarily in Independence, MO who cling to the notion that the founder of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints was never personally a revealer, teacher or practitioner of Polygamy. Rather, that he was a 'victim' of a conspiracy within the Mormon church in IL to introduce it. This despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, documented in scholarly works during the past decade alone... The book is nicely bound and printed. Would that it's content were as praiseworthy and historically accurate. Any serious student of LDS [Mormon] History will immediately recognize that to accept the authors interpretive theories requires tremendous leaps in logic with regard to their inferential conclusions about evidence at best circumstantial and at worst completely out of context.

Courageous and Informative
Was Joseph Smith polygamous? Richard and Pamela Price, despite the insistence of most "scholars" that say he was a polygamist, makes a compelling case for Joseph Smith NOT being a polygamist. They mention Joseph's repeated statements, verbal and written, against polygamy, his excommunication of persons who believed in, advocated, and/or practiced polygamy, as well as taking people to court for polygamy or for saying he was a polygamist. Personally, I find this compelling. However, in the final analysis, the reader will have to get the book, read it, and decide the issue for themselves.

Far from complete, even from a beginner's point of view.
Most probably because it written by a number of people, the book lacks consistency. The first part is quite good and there is a no-nonsense approach. Important things are taught, and without much fuss.

However, the downfall starts from the "Advanced" section of the book. The chapter on API is takes just a cursory glance at VB and API, to say the least. This trend starts here and continues where OOP in VB is introduced. I have no clue why these important chapters were given so little space.

The problem with this book is, it tries to cover too much, with too little detail. In the end, you are left with a very much incomplete book. Example: Important concepts like early binding and late binding were nowhere discussed, at least not with the names.

I think Wrox's "Beginning VB 6" may be a better choice, but the problem with Wrox "Beginner" series is that, they just talk on and on and on till you are completely insane.

real VB developers don't buy this book!
This book is tailored for ordinary users of VB only, not developers of VB. This book does not provide the necessary details of programming, and other advanced features. If you need to work on VB, probably this book is not for you. For novice users, this book can give you a smell of what VB is. The examples used in this book is rather small scaled.

Using VB 6: Sometimes hard to use
I used this book as a beginner to VB6 with high hopes of getting a firm grasp on the language. However, I was a little disappointed. There is not a whole lot of sample code to look at. The information on ActiveX was skimpy as well. Some of the Microsoft Common Controls (MSFlexGrid for example) were not explained or illustrated adequately. This book will take your programming skills farther, but not as far as I thought it would.

Very Little 'Pro'
I just browsed the book and found it not very 'pro' related. Not many color examples. There are only 12 pages of color in a 416 page book. There should be more color where lighting and color are reletive to an image creation software book. There is more information and overlap of Poser 4 issues than the Pro Version.

I would re-consider purchasing book. I am also thinking about returning it.

A Good Compromise
This is the only worthwhile book available at this writing...for anyone looking for some help with Poser 4.0. Admittedly (as the title states), Schrand focuses much of the book on the Poser Pro Pack, an expensive but very useful add-on to the base product. But he devotes half the book to explaining and demonstrating basic and intermediate tasks, and his examples are clear and easy to follow. The CD is chock full of useful gadgets and gimcracks.

I didn't read it as a beginner, but I'm familiar with a lot of beginner's books, and I think this one will get you started in Poser and keep enhancing your knowledge and growth as you master the software.

could be better
I think this book is worth having for the price. It does have some tutorials and offers insight to the mediocre Poser user. I learned a few things but it is not the vast tome of understanding I had expected. Still, if you are grappling with some of the more advanced concepts of Poser pro pack, I'd say you probably should get this book. It may shed some light on a few things for you. Don't expect to be Phil C after reading this one though. ;>

Absolutely the lamest thing...
I have ever seen. I am embarrassed to have this tripe in the house. This man must be the source of all those terribly unfunny e-mails sent by "dirty" uncles everywhere. This book might be funny if you (...)yourself laughing at the Reader's Digest's "humour" sections. A large section of it seems to be a regurgitation of the man's previous book: The Dieter's Guide to Weight Loss During Sex. Otherwise it is filled with useless, random, lame jokes and lists. I opened it up, flipped through it, and sighed, because it just seems to be a weighty collection of sex/dating oriented e-mail jokes, the kind you delete because they've already made the rounds three times. I am keeping this review anonymous because I'm so embarrassed to have been rooked by this...

Very enjoyable reading material with good advise
This is a humorous book that offers sensible and tasteful advise for married couples, short term relationships and one night stands. It offers tips for good sex, what men or women fear, what they expect, how to be romantic, seductive, playful and most important, how to have fun during sex. As a man, I don't read too many books, especiaslly like this one, but I liked this book and would recommend it to anyone.

Funny as Hell!
This book has amazing seinfeld quality wit. Humourous with out being overly gooey...perfect for a gag gift or for anyone who can't keep there mind off of the lovely topic of sex. Also, great to check out is the dieter's guide to wieght loss during sex written by the same author...I just handed these both out as bachlorette gifts...

To elementary for most hunters
This book is by far the simplest book I've ever read for a deer hunting book. It lacks sophisticated detail and has a flavor for the bare basics. I strongly encourage hunters to steer clear of this book if they have any exprience at all. I give it 2 stars (instead of 1) for the beginner who actually may find this somewhat useful. Otherwise don't waste any time reading this.

A Truley ethical hunter from the word go.
Richard Smith is a true hunter with excellent ethics. His book is great for the beginning hunter. However its is full of endorsements from the beginning.I gave this book to a friend to read before I would even hunt with him for the first time. Hats off to you Richard for allowing so many deer to pass you by and let them become future trophies. I only wish others people would enjoy the outdoors as much and not think of the sport as a chance to shoot at the first deer that comes by. I would be honored if I ever got the chance to hunt with you

Wonderful book
Wonderful book to read in the off season!! Great tips, well organized, lots of useful pictures. Good luck!!

If your course requires it, nothing you can do
I had to use this textbook for a class, which you probably do to. So you probably have to buy this one. It was okay, not hard to read, but I won't be keeping it as a reference work. The authors definitely have an agenda, promoting certain kinds of nutrition over others with very little reasoning, also seems to act like a lot of alternative medicine couldn't possible work even when there are studies to the contrary. I guess it handles the rudiments of biology okay. I will be selling this when I'm finished with this semester.

Oh, and there appears to be both a hardcover and a paperback. I bought the paperback used, and it seems to have matched perfectly with the hardcover. Never even used the CD.

Very easy read
This book was very easy to read, I read the whole thing in a little over a week. Highly reccommended.

DO NOT BOTHER
The idea is right, compose a book to assist undergraduate math majors in their transition from basic calculus or linear algebra into the more abstract fields of mathematics. But that is where it all ends. First off, the majority of the problems in the later half of the first chapter presupposes the student has had some introduction to basic number theory. But this contradicts the very nature of the book. Secondly, the authors have a tendency to take the simplist of mathematical concepts and make it more difficult than it needs to be. For example, the authors two part definition of the union and intersection of an indexed family of sets. This is about as basic a concept as there is in mathematics, yet the authors manage to make it utterly confusing. Remember who your target audience is.
Personally if one cannot write proofs(The basis of the book) don't bother with this book, buy just about any mathematics book titled "How to read/write proofs".

This book is GARBAGE... not worth the time.
All the examples are difficult to follow, most of the important proves are left for excercises and many of the topics are not fully covered. It is hard to read for a student and this book is one of the worst mathmatic books that I have read.

excellent - especially for future math teachers
The heart of the book is exercises in grading proofs. These are very useful - especially to future teachers.

There is a lot of overlap between the first four chapters of this book and what is often taught in discrete math but the book is more thorough and rigorous. In addition, there is a chapter on cardinality, and introductions to abstract algebra and real analysis.

Teachers may not get a chance to take many upper level undergraduate courses that are oriented to math majors. This book is a transition to math for mathematicians (rather than engineers and science students) and covers the fundamentals in a very accessible manner.
