A must for anyone wanting to improve education
This book literally changed my life. It helped me be brave enough to think critically and creatively about learning and teaching. Some of the things we hold as "gospel truth" DO need to be re-examined.

Michael Smith helps explode lots of myths surrounding math education, but more importantly reminds us of what the Holy Grail is... helping every student discover their UNIQUE potential.

By the way, Humble Pi triggered thoughts and images that lead me on my own journey resulting in me writing my own book --a "children's book" called The North Star. Thanks, Michael Smith!

Nice Sidetable Drawers Finish First!
This is such a sweet story, a real lesson in how shy children can make good friends, and fulfill their dreams. The best thing about Blue's Clues is the spirit of friendship and respect among all of the characters. My daughter absolutely loves this book.

As Good As the Show
I think its easy to say the Inn Chef is the best cooking show on T.V. and this book deffinatly lives up to it. His plates always turn out to look so exotic and eye pleasing now he shares with us even more of his secrets. This book is very easy to follow but deffinatly not for the begginer, the recipies take some time and patients to create but it is well worth it. I am sure any serious home chef would love this cookbook.

Something old, something new...
Jessie Willcox Smith's work is enjoying somewhat of a welcome resurgence. Her knack of capturing the innocence and purity of childhood is a refreshing counterpoint to the publicized horrors of today's news. She seemed able to capture something in children that even those closest to them had missed...my mother-in-law, who is at present nearly 94 years old, appears in this book twice: one painting of her was done at age three, and the other at age six. She refers to the painting of herself at age six, which hangs in her office area in her assisted living residence, as "me in my better days."

Excellent book for First time Hockey Parents
This is the best book for first time hockey parents. I had no idea how to tape a stick, buy shoulder pads, skates or even that there was such a thing as a neck guard.

The book is written by a physician and hockey lover, who knows his stuff. It has given me a lot of confidence when dealing with "more knowledgeable" parents and coaches. It has also helped me make it more fun for my kid.

If you have a kid who is going to play hockey: BUY THIS BOOK!!! The information on equipment and injuries is worth the price alone. Knowing how tape a stick and buy equipment has saved me a lot of time and money.

Not your usual book on ghost stories---
This book is the most well-written book on ghosts I've ever read. The author's general story-telling style can easily captivate the reader and leave him wanting more. The author is obviously well-read, a scholar who is very eloquent, and a splendid writer. His tales are memorable and haunting, not only because of the subject. His characters and their stories will linger in your mind. I've read many ghost stories, but this is the only book (on ghosts) I choose to own.

I Been Here Before I Lighted Out For The Territories
This volume of effervescence gives off more sparks than a campfire from "Roughing It". It also provides terrific context for a group of essays by Shelly Fisher Fishkin "Lighting Out for the Territories". For real fun read David Carkeet's modern recreation of Twain "I Been Here Before", a book Twain would have somehow wished to be included in his canon. Don't be surprised if someday Carkeet's book is included as a companion volume to the Oxford Mark Twain.

Michael Leonard Paintings
Published in Hardcover by LPC (1985)
Authors: Lincoln Kirstein, Edward Lucie-Smith, and Michael Leonard
Amazon base price: $24.95
Used price: $100.00
Average review score:

Pensively sensual works
Michael Leonard's art is well known to admirers of Figurative Art and this difficult to find book of his paintings justifies his place of importance in the currrent resurgence of representational art. Leonard finds beautiful metaphors in the sanctity of the locker room and allows us a quiet view of young men ending or beginning physical nurturing of the body beautiful. The lighting effects are luminous and the brushwork is fastidious. Much is left to the viewer as to the interpretation of these paintings but Lincoln Kirstein's commentary adds much to the pleasure of this book.
