A great cook book.
I have several cook books but this one is definitely a favorite.
There are some great recipes for entertaining. The Spinach-Artichoke spread is always a real hit.

Mrs. Smith is an awesome cook!
Growing up in Kenova WV my grandparents and the Smiths' were friends and we attended the same church. I had eaten Mrs. Smiths cooking too many times to count and it was always awesome! When I heard about the cookbook I couldnt wait for it to hit the stores! The recipes are clear and easy to understand. It is laid out with a checklist for the ingredients most things you will already have on hand. I use it to make something every time my friends and i are having a get together. Her recipes make you look like you can cook well enough to be on Emeril Live! This is a must have for everyone who enjoys cooking at its best.

Read Now, Say Later: I Read Him When He Used To Be Unknown
Canada's Michael V. Smith, Ireland's Colm Toibin, Russia's Chekhov. It's hard to imagine the three of them conversing over toast at breakfast. But the books of these writers would cozy up quite comfortable on your shelf.
Ideally, "Cumberland" would have a cover of flannel. It wraps its characters in care as it gently opens their hearts to our view. And like any open heart surgery, there is the hope of a better life after, and the constant forboding of terrible consequences.
A darn good read.

great reader, great novel
I bought the novel after hearing Michael Smith read at a Toronto event. What an incredible reader - he was honest, spontaneous, and moving. It was interesting how all segments of the audience (all kinds of people) were engaged. Smith breaks down a lot of social divisions - warmly and effortlessly. Cumberland is much the same. An honest portrayal of lives you often don't hear about, in a smallish town. Eye-opening, and very *caring*. You can't help but enjoy reading this, and up feeling very close to some people you might not normally meet in your daily life.

Essays Critical and Clinical

At last, a clear explanation!
I must confess, I've only read three of the essays so far in this book, but it's the introduction that I'm most grateful for. Daniel W. Smith does a magnificent job of explicating many of the concepts that have perplexed and confounded my poor artistic mind. I feel that Deleuze had a special understanding of literature, and I was interested to see what he has to say about some of the writers I also love (Beckett, Kafka, Melville). But I've mostly had this experience of wishing I could get what it was he was saying. I felt all along like I was just-this-close, until Smith cracked it open for me. Lots of "Aha" experiences. For people with an artistic bent and with an attraction to philosophy, Deleuze is perhaps a kindred spirit whose words and thoughts about literature, painting and music can give hope and faith to whatever projects we work on at the foot of the capitalist mountain. I've also read his book on Kafka, and I selected that one because I want to understand more, and based on a review here on Amazon where someone said "this was the one to start with." I would say, that Kafka is definitely the one to start with, but Smith's intro to this book gives a very helpful overview of what one can expect. So Start with the Intro, go to Kafka, then come back to the essays. My .02.

Critique et Clinique. . .Real Horrorshow
Deleuze follows Nietzsche in asserting that literature, at its strongest, plays a *clinical* role in our lives, providing us with a technology to discharge blockages, to liberate the penal colonies of our overcoded neuroses. Literature is a vector of disease, the writer a physician of the spirit, the world a dissoluted Body without Organs shimmering between the escape-routes of Life and the leprous snares of a doctrinal judge-mentality. Sickness and disequilibrium on a world-historical scale, a delirium far beyond the personal and the individual, the great authors (in this anthology: Melville, Whitman, Carroll, Lawrence, Jarry, Masoch, Beckett) struggling to plot the epidemiology of these terrors, groping for an escape-hatch that may redeem the years of incarceration, both psychical and political. Illness is defined as the *stopping* or interruption of the writing process, the exhaustion of the literary machine, when the schizo-author feels abandoned by the world's epic Traverse and wills her own destruction. Where once the literary agent had all her powers engaged in the machinic exploration of her own narrative Immanence, there now remains only an outmoded cyborg husk, having lost "the spontaneity or the innate feeling for the fragmentary, and the reflection on living relations that must constantly be acquired and created. Spontaneous fragments constitute the element through which, or in the intervals of which, we attain the great and carefully considered visions and sounds of both Nature and history"(60). These essays show how every great writer is also a master aetiologist, a "holistic pathologist" trying to identify and dissolve the negative forces which separate Life from what it can do, that keep Immanence from exploding against its world-historical targets. As a supplement to *Capitalism and Schizophrenia* (that immaculate Public Health textbook), these discourses are outstanding.

Changed My Life
This audio book changed my life. I have always wanted to read and study Scripture, but, like a lot of people, I could never find the time. Listening to the Gospels on CD was the answer. The sound quality is great. Michael Smith does a terrific job with the narration and the background music adds to the overall message instead of detracting from it. I would highly recommend The Gospels Come to Life to anyone interested in learning more about Jesus Christ and his teachings.

The importance of friendships
People weren't made to live alone and thus the importance of good friends are important in everyday life. Its a small book but one that I'd reccomend even to those who think that they've "got it" when it comes to friendships. It talks about why its important to have friends, how to be a good friend, how to fix broken frienships, and how to be good friends with those that aren't Christian. I haven't read too many friendship books but this one seems to cover a lot of stuff, and though its a small book, it comes in handy.

A good read about the need for friends.
I've been a fan of Michael's music for a number of years, so when he began to write books, I was eager to see what he had to say. And I haven't been disappointed yet. He has a very readable and personal writing style, and he's not afraid to be transparent. As for content, it's always relevant and based on tested Scriptural principles. It's awesome to see how strong his faith has remained during his high-profile years in the music business, where temptations are many and humility is easy to lose. A major contribution to his stability lies in the solid friendships he has maintained with other strong Christians. Friendship is important to him, and he wants others to reap its many benefits as well. That's a major reason why he wrote this book.

"I Will Be Your Friend" attracted me because of relational issues I have recently encountered in my own life. As I've entered my thirties, my desire to improve my current friendships has increased, since they have sustained me through a number of tough times. I want the ability to properly edify, encourage, and even rebuke my friends for the benefit of their character, and our relationship. In addition, I'd like to gain skills on forming solid new friendships, which is sometimes difficult for an introvert like myself.

So, when I came across this book I knew it was one I needed to read. And I'm glad I did. Michael illustrates a number of truths he's learned over the years about friendship. He touches on such topics as setting boundaries, accountability, the importance of being vulnerable, mentoring, and servanthood. Michael shares a lot from his own personal experiences, and it's refreshing to see that he even records his own relational missteps. Even better, his insights are tied to Scripture, and he is clear that God is the source of whatever wisdom he has.

I particularly recommend this book to men, since we seem less capable than women (or at least less willing) when it comes to forming deep friendships. It's important that we cultivate this ability, since the benefits are many and the alternatives are definitely less than God's best.

An enjoyable fun read for thriller fans
In 2018 China, Jeremiah the Prophet receives a heart transplant that save his life. The organ donor is ten years old James, a boy in perfect health who was cloned from the Prophet so his organs can be harvested for Jeremiah's use.. The lad is given an artificial heart in case Jeremiah needs future organs.

The time for the choosing of Jeremiah's successor is now at hand. There are two candidates, his about to be eighteen-year old sons sired with different mothers. Jeremiah plans to test both of them to determine who is worthy of replacing him. David has lived his entire life with Jeremiah, but he is behaving like a rebellious American teen instead of the son of the Prophet. The other candidate is David's half brother Thomas raised by Jeremiah's enemies Steve and Laura Delaney-Wallace. Jeremiah sets the apocalyptic contest in motion when he sends a packet to Thomas containing information about the lad's background previously unknown to the teen.

The third tale in Michael A. Smith's modern day theological thriller is an exciting conclusion to a fast-paced trilogy. THE INHERITOR is entertaining and fast-paced. Though the heroes and villains may have aged, they continue their global rivalry that sets the stage for the successor to be anointed. The tale is exhilarating and the charcaters seem more complete than in the previous two novels. Still, Mr. Smith opens the door to a new novel starring the next generation prophet. This will please thriller fans but leave other readers asking if this series will one day become the literary equivalent of Halloween 20?

Not to be missed

Michael Smith's Marginal People is a dark, urban noire thriller about the greed and ultimate self-destruction that lurk in the hearts of seemingly normal men and women. A down on his luck aspiring actor, his emotionally scarred artist girlfriend, a single mother barely surviving on a subsistence wage and a criminal kingpin are among the unwary who become involved in manipulative ex-con's kidnaping and ransom plot. The efforts of these marginalized people to survive and free themselves from the plot's ruthless machinations will transform some of them, and cost others their struggling lives. Grim, shadowy, sinister, and entrancing in its literary power of engagement, Marginal People is not to be missed.

Visual Journey review
I took the time to review this book because I feel strongly that it contains excellent photographs which deserve a wider audience. Michael Smith is one of the best living photographers and a national treasure of the US. He is known well in the photographic community but remains fairly obscure outside this group. I recommend this book to anyone interested in excellent photography.

A stunning collection of outstanding photographs
Michael A. Smith has traveled many miles photographing the land, the cities, and the people across America, and is possibly the greatest photographer of our time. Not only is his subject matter interesting, every picture in this publication reveals his mastery of seeing, composition, and print quality. An excellent book.

brilliant and a rewarding read
This was one of the finest cookbooks I have come across in years. Mr. Smiths mastery of maritime flavors quickly surfaces and he obviously has a highly refined and developed taste.
