Great for Critical Thinking Course
I teach Critical Thinking at a junior college in central California. This is the only text for my class. I have chosen it over several others for the following reasons: ease of use, detailed explanations, MLA and APA format guidelines, and excellent readings that give both sides to current topics.

A blend of Schemes, Tropes and Toulmin
As a Freshman Composition Teacher, I found it hard to explain the idea of argument using mainstream texts such as Axlerod and Cooper's St. Martin's Guide. The second edition of Everything's an Argument provides an accessible way to illustrate classical rhetorical ideas to the modern student. Lunsford, Ruszkiewicz and Walters provide a readable breakdown or Aristotle's concepts of Ethos, Pathos, Logos and Audience. Toulmin is also used nicely. The second edition also provides readings which are contemporary in nature and on intersting topics. There are the traditional readings on Title IX, Language and Identity, Free Speech and Euthanasia for the more conservative course instructors. In addition, this book ellaborates on topics which I will be excited to introduce into my course next semester: Technology's involvement in Conception and Birth, Intellectual Property rights, Genetics and Privacy Loss. While the content of the book is exactly what I've been searching for, I find the physical book design also appealing. The cover design and visual elements will demand attention from my students. While the compact paperback design will not break anyone's back, it has me a little concerned about how well it will hold up over a semester. This text should be a definite consideration for anyone who has been wondering for years how to work audience, argument, critical thinking and style into their course. My favorite part is the chapter on tropes and schemes.

For anyone who wants to go from exercizes to reading Greek
This book is an excellent resources for those learning to actually read Greek once basic syntax and vocabulary are learned. Baugh does a great job providing reading notes which are helpful in translating passages from First John (be advised that you will need a copy of the Greek New Testament to make use of the reader). In each lesson, Baugh gives a vocabulary list which includes words necessary to translating the lesson's passage as well as common words to build general vocabulary. In each lesson, Baugh gives a commentary like explanation of the text, as well as exercises to complete. Furthermore, Baugh's lessons include assigned review sections of his introductory Greek primer, as well as new grammatical rules. His summary of Greek grammar is clear and concise, and when memorized (or referred to) is a powerful tool for interpretation. Baugh also includes a chart which references other grammatical works to enable the Reader to be used with other works. Overall, an excellent work for second year Greek students!

A great place to continue after first year study is done.
I am just a lay person who has a strong interest in God's Word and would like to be able to utilize the original Greek text of the New Testament for my study. I have been working through this book for several weeks now and am finding it very helpful and enjoyable. When I completed my study of first year Greek I asked myself, "Where do I go from here?" I think this book is the perfect place to turn. It helps the student build a stronger vocabulary (I believe all word occurrences from 49 down to 17 are included). The book provides a very good introduction to intermediate Greek grammar, with concepts clearly explained and illustrated (and with a bit of humor). Most importantly, the author provides a commentary on the Greek text of 1 John, relating his remarks to the grammatical points just learned. I like this book a lot, and I don't know of anything else out there quite like it.

Perfect! One of the greatest tools for learning to read!
I bought this for my 5 year old when he was started reading. At first, some of the words were kind of hard but as parents, that's where we step in. It was such a great value. This bible has many little short stories of the bible and each story is a different word lesson. For instance, if they are studying a certain letter, you can read the story with lots of those letters highlighted in red to identify the letter they are studying. The terms are fun and easy. My son reads it to me every night. We love it!! Its a great way to introduce your little ones to the Bible and for them to study it on there own. You don't have to worry about things you don't want your children to known about or other bad books! This is definately worth it!!

A First Step to Restoring the Bible as Primary Reader*...
For those of you who are interested in teaching your child to read and have been frustrated by those limited, silly, graded readers-you'll be delighted with this wonderful first Bible. In our own family's desire to restore the Bible as the primary reader in lieu of the various other readers out there, we wanted a Bible that was kid friendly and incorporated phonics. I thought it was not possible until I stumbled on this Bible! Done in a classical, grammar stage level utilizing rhyme & meter. Example: "The world was new-just two days old. What's next? Get Ready! We are told-This was the day God made the sky-And set it inits place up high-" Text covers short & long vowels, consonant sounds, diagraphs, blends, clusters and silent letters. A great compliment to any phonics system, such as Writing Road to Reading.

A Visual Jazz Masterpiece.....
"Good evening. And thank you for coming to our book. We have something very special for you tonight. It's John Coltrane's marvelous and tricky composition, "Giant Steps," performed for you by a box, a snowflake, some raindrops, and a kitten..." So begins the conductor's introduction to Chris Raschka's brilliant visual jazz rendition of Giant Steps. First he explains a little about who John Coltrane is, and how his music was composed, "...[he] wrote music which, in his hands, became swirling, leaping, tumbling "sheets of sound." That's what he called it. But why tell you when we can show you?" Then the composition begins with the raindrops, the tempo, "not too fast and not too slow." Next he layers the box, the base, "...the bottom. It's something to build on." Here comes the snowflake, the piano, "showing us the harmony, the beautiful frame." And last, the kitten, the melody, "watch her take some giant steps across the page." As Mr Raschka "conducts", problems begin to occur, the shapes and colors collapse, and he finally yells STOP! "People, people! What happened? Okay, okay, let's take a look at some trouble spots." After detailing when, where and how each shape went wrong, and giving constructive directions, the composition begins again. "Let's take it from page 14. Raindrop, box, snowflake, kitten. GO. Sheets of color. Sheets of sound. Bravo. Bravo, everyone." Mr Raschka's entertaining text, written in an engaging, conversational style, is informative and enlightening. His layering of shapes and colors provides a clever and creative visual understanding of jazz and John Coltrane's "sheets of sound." Together word and art dazzles, Giant Steps comes to life on the page, and imaginations soar. Perfect for youngsters 6-10, John Coltrane's Giant Steps is Chris Raschka at his very best, and is an innovative and inventive introduction to understanding jazz, no young music lover should miss.

amazing and creative
This book is really something! It's unlike any other book I've ever read. It is not just a book -- it is an experience. What a creative mind Chris Raschka has! My 4 year old and my 7 year old both loved it. So did I. I highly recommend it.

Perfect Timing
Book was in very good condition.
Received book in 4 business days.
Overall I am very satisfied.

should get six or seven stars
I had to pull some strings to get this book for my college freshman students because it was not on the "approved" list. It was worth the trouble! Students enjoy using this book, and they learn to write better essays, and most of them keep it after finishing my class. I love this book!

This was an awesome book! Mia is a really great player and this book told all about her life, family, and determination. I found out that even though she's had a lot of success, she's had difficulties too. I recommend it to anyone who likes Mia Hamm or soccer.

A fun book for all!
My son loves this book. There are a few words (midnight, knock, night) that might be difficult for kids that are truly just starting to sound words out. But, if they don't mind having a grown-up help with those few words, they can sound out most of the rest by themselves.

If you read this to your children, you just can't help using a fun voice for "Groad" the cook.

This book along with others in the "Critters of the Night" series are a lot of fun for the kids. My son just turned six and has loved having them read to him for a long time as well as looking at and discussing the entertaining illustrations. Now he enjoys reading them himself. "Critters of the Night" and "Little Critter" books belong on every child's bookshelf!

Midnight Snack (Mercer Mayer's Critters Of The Night)
This is a great beginning reader book! The cast of monsters appeal to children without being too scary. The colorful illustrations make this a fun book to read. The rhyming story is perfect for early elementary school childern learning rhyming sounds. My six-year-old felt a real sense of accomplishment when he was able to read this book himself. He even choose this book to take to school to read to his class. We also like "No Howling In The House" and "Purple Pickle Juice" in this series of readers.

Mike and the Magic Cookies?
Mike and the Magic Cookies is the best first grade book I have ever read. It all started when my kindergarten friend, Amanda brought it to my house to read (she loves to read!)! When she was finished, I read it. I think it has been one of my most favorite books EVER! Now, I am in the seventh grade and still ask her if I can borrow it. It's different every time I am reading it because I am growing up. I would like to tell all you "magical" readers out there that this book is for you!

This is one of the best books your child will ever read
This new series by Emily Burns is perhaps the most delightful book that my children have ever read. The mysterious plot and the wholesome values presented throughout the book keep my children reading (even after their bedtime)! The illustrations in the book are wonderful as well! John Breeding did a really great job capturing the scenes on paper. I would definately recommend this book to anybody looking for a great book for their child.

Will instill a love of reading in children
Deftly written by Emily Burns, Mystery On Rampart Hill launches the new "Rocky Mountain Mysteries" series for young readers ages 8 to 12. Tyler, Steve, and Stephanie Thompson search the old house on Rampart Hill (which is slated to be converted to a community library) to discover why a series of strange happenings is occurring there. Is someone trying to stop the creation of a library? The Thompson kids are determined to solve the mystery so that the whole town can benefit from the proposed new library. Enhanced with occasional black-and-white illustrations by John Breeding, Mystery On Rampart Hill is the kind of wholesome novel that will instill a love of reading in children and leave them anxiously awaiting the next adventure of the Thompson siblings!
