thoughtful and honest child's view of his world
As a poetry teacher, I was delighted to find "Nathaniel Talking" at the library. It is rare to find fun and readable poetry about contemporary children that is also honest and serious. I loved Nathaniel! He raps, mourns his mother, views his father as a hero, ponders how heavy the weight of the world must be and still remains childlike. Well, done Ms Greenfield! The illustrations, as in "Night on Neighborhood Street" are wonderful. I hope that the publisher will make "Nathaniel Talking" available for purchase again soon.

another great book in the oz-story series
Like all of the other Oz-story books, this one is a must for all Oz fans. It contains a collection of old and new stories, poems, cartoons, and illustrations about Oz or written by favorite Ozzie authors, both living and dead. I especially enjoyed the series of stories that were written and illustrated by W.W. Denslow, the original illustrator of the Wizard of Oz (later books in the series were illustrated by Neill). I found Denslow's stories charming. I also especially enjoyed "Pajamas, the Sleepyhead Elf" by Eloise McGraw, with fine illustrations by Shanover. But the absolute best was "Fresh Strawberries", a very funny poem written by L. Frank Baum himself! Although it has nothing to do with Oz, it was nonetheless wonderfully funny and clever.

A "must" for all Oz enthusiasts of any age!
Oz-story #6 is the annual anthology of stories, comics and verse generated by L. Frank Baum's legendary "Land of Oz" books. This wonderful, large format collection features contributions by L. Frank Baum, Eloise Jarvis McGraw, Harlan Ellison, Philip Jose Farmer, Ruth Plumly Thompson, Glenn Ingersoll, Eric Shanower and others. Oz-story #6 is profusely and charmingly illustrated by the work of John R. Neil, Eric Shanower, Anna-Maria Cool, Marge, and others. There are comic panels by Walt Spouse, Steve Lieber, Tommy Kovac, Steven Weisman, W.W. Denslow and others. The center piece is perhaps L. Frank Baum's "Annabel", his least known children's novel which was originally published in 1906 and presents a rags-to-riches story of a young boy who finally wins the girl! With its flawless and pains-taking production values, Oz-story #6 is a "must" for all Oz enthusiasts of all ages.

This is a "Must-Have" for your child's library!
I had this same book when I was a little girl. I was enchanted by Eloise Wilkin's illustrations, which are alone reason to buy this book! Her style is evocative of I. Hummel. The children depicted in her drawings are so adorable! As for the prayers themselves, they are short enough for very small children to learn. You will see alot of traditional language, though. This may be difficult for a small child to understand (i.e. Thee and Thou). However, I feel this book is well worth buying!

A "must" for Oz fans
In The Rundelstone Of Oz, author Eloise McGraw demonstrates the kind of writing skills that have marked her as a three time Newbery honoree. The latest entry into the legendary fantasy world of Oz first created by L. Frank Baum, The Rundelstone Of Oz is a welcome addition that will become as classic an entertainment as any in the Oz series. Superbly illustrated by Eric Shanower in the "Oz Tradition", The Rundelstone Of Oz is a "must" for Oz fans, as well as a highly recommended acquisition for school and community library collections.

Tick, Tock, the Chickens' Clock

Wonderful!
This book is perfect for young readers. Simple reading, but an interesting story. I have read it to my children several times. I'm sure this writer has many more stories from her growing up days that she could put into books as well. The children can read the wonderful story and also learn a little about the past as well. What better way to keep memories alive!

The Tune Is in the Tree

A delightful introduction to the author's work
This is a beautiful story about a little girl, Annie Jo, who lives among a family of birds while she is temporarily separated from her own parents. A very poetic book accompanied by lovely illustrations. It's a perfect story to read on a warm summer's night just before you go to sleep.

It is a constant source of mystery to me why the publishers of out-of-print MHL books don't reprint them immediately. It's not as though they can argue that there's not a big market for them. HarperCollins, do the reading public (and your own profit margin) a favor: REISSUE THIS BOOK!!!

Simple pleasure
While in the Bahamas, we bought a copy of Under the Sunday Tree, with paintings by a Bahamian primitive named Mr. Amos Ferguson and accompanying poems by Eloise Greenfield. We bought it to give to a young friend, but it may be too good to give away. Fortunately, it's available here at Amazon.... The poems really make the book, and the text is simple enough that it's accessible to young readers.

Wonderful book of memories
This is a great book that reminds me of visiting my own grandmother's home and finding great treasures. The author of this book, my husband's great-aunt, wrote this story about his sister. The artistic detail and the story together take you back to times long gone but not forgotten.

Insightful look at growth of great garderner and her gardens
You are what you grow. That is the message of this delightful volume about one woman with a horticultural vision that is a rare match in US lore. As told by Hellander, Eloise Butler brought a deep affinity for earth's pleasures to her work in studying plants, creating new gardens, and opening the world of plants and flowers to others through her writings. As a combination biography and gardening book, the reader finds new connections between the presonal and the petal. This is a great book for anyone with a love of gardening, of cultural anthropology, and of the curiousity to find out how a woman grows.
