Global Marketing Strategies Jeannet & hennessey
I use this book for instructing my third year marketing students who find the case study section particularly helpful. The glossy pages of international statistics make for easy reading. A very good value for money book.

Dog-eared and highlighted throughout!
This little book, written by a trappist monk, is a treasure. I have had it for a couple years, and actually read through it numerous times. Each time I gain more insight. I believe absolutely everything in it to be true. The amazing thing is that it is so simple, rings so true, and yet I (and obviously most people) fail to live by its principles! It might have been titled, "The Only True Way to Achieve Happiness and Peace of Mind." I heartily recommend this book to anyone and everyone...there is nothing negative to say about it. Definitely a 5-star read, and one that you'll end up reading again and again.

Human Resource Selection
Published in Hardcover by International Thomson Publishing (1990)
Authors: Robert D. Gatewood and Hubert S. Feild
Amazon base price: $49.50
Used price: $2.45

The bible of selection! A must have!
Gatewood and Feild have definitely written the authoritative volume on selecting employees. They cover everything: legal issues, measurement, selection decision making strategies, job analysis, and the whole gamut of selection devices: application forms, biodata, interviews, ability tests, personality tests, assessment centers, integrity testing, and so on and so forth. And they cover these topics IN DEPTH -- not just a brief overview. The countless examples are very helpful. And the authors display a great dry humor -- the author bios and dedications are priceless (also be sure and check out the graphologist's interpretation of Gatewood's personality, and his responses)! I definitely recommend this book as a text for graduate and undergraduate classes, and also for the HR person who needs to beef up their selection know-how. A great reference source full of the latest selection research -- a must have for every practitioner's and student's collection.

The quiet genius
Hubert was a man of astonishing intelligence and humour. This comes through well in this book of essays, which provide a good taster for his work. This book has great relevance for the world of today, and provides many insights into the troubles in Ireland, the Basque region, and the Balkans. What marks Hubert out for particular greatness as an essayist was his distinct brand of subtle, but mischevious, humour. He was always prepared to poke fun at sensless authority wherever it appeared, whether in the state, religion or the Academic world

An Approachable Introduction
This guidebook defines many of the terms surrounding knowledge management and then outlines the major strategies that companies use when describing themselves as a "learning organization." I found the reader assessment helpful. With a discussion of the core components (the value proposition, culture, structure, roles, IT, approaches, and measurement), it's also useful in quickly educating coworkers on the potential value of KM.

Language and Liberation - A Guide for Language Ideology
I bought this book as a text for a course in my undergraduate program. It was very enlightening. It helped me see the far-reaching and covert impact of language planning. It explained the link between language and politics, and highlighted the need for linguists to play a greater role in modern politics. It also showed how one's language attitudes influence one's sense of identity - both national and individual. The author does not force his analysis on the reader, rather, he encourages him/her to assimilate and interpret for him/herself. I recommend this book to anyone who frequently doubts the use of linguistics in the real world and to aspiring students of the discipline of linguistics; it will give you great perspective.

Leatherbreeches: Hero of Chancellorsville
Published in Unknown Binding by Amherst Press (1989)
Author: Carl A. Keyser
Amazon base price: $10.00

Leatherbreechs' Legacy
My father (Carl Keyser) spent four decades researching his German-born Grandfather's life (Hubert Dilger), and the lives of his 14 descendents. He published two books on his findings: Leatherbreechs', "Hero of Chancelorsville" and "Leatherbreeches Legacy". What my Dad discovered and wrote about were excellent examples of Civil War heroism and family love and loss in the 1860's through WWII. The stories detail spiritualism (an account involving Abraham Lincoln), Civil War battles leading to Dilger's award of the Congressional Medal of Honor (and Gettysburg monuments errected to his honor), discrimination against immigrants in the 1800's, and the roles of his sons and grandsons in WWI and WWII. The family divided in the late 1800's. 1/2 of Dilger's children returned to Germany and eventually engaged in espionage activity against the US (Such as culturing anthrax near the WhiteHouse). Several grandchildren became high ranking Nazis and one was in Hitler's inner circle. Other grandchildren ended up fighting against the Germans; one assigned to a US Destroyer (my Dad) and another to the US Intelligence Service. The later resided in Himmler's house when Germany was occupied by Allied Forces. The books are rich in factual history. They include the publication of many family letters that have survived the years. Many letters are from Dilger and include personal perspective on Sherman's march to Atlanta, Civil War life, the quality of the Federal command etc. The books present fascinating insight into American History during the mid 1800's to mid 1900's. I believe that these stories would offer excellent material for a TV Mini Series... or... even a Speilberg movie portraying how immigrants struggled between the old world and new ways to build our great country.
