I found this book to be amazing
first and foremost this is the first book that I have read on this topic. only recently have I had the desire to learn about cosmology. it wasn't too complex to grasp so for a first time interest it was good. I definetly plan on reading this occasionally it is just a book that I loved to read and didn't like to put down. I highly recommend it.

Understandable, factual and balanced. I recommend it.
Firstly, I should correct the amazon.com Kirkus review because journalist Dominique Simonnet is a man, not a woman (and I think his name is spelled Simonnet, not Simmonet.) Secondly, I didn't really read this particular book, I read the original French version ("La plus belle histoire du monde.") That said, I thought the book was very good. It was not written for the extreme scientifically oriented audience. It was aimed at the average person who is curious about a well reasoned hypothesis for the origins of the universe, life and mankind. This book doesn't answer every one of life's questions - but I didn't expect it to. The authors go out of their way to be sensitive and considerate of other points of view. Where they don't know or can't answer a question, they simply say so. This book is understandable, factual and balanced. I recommend it to anyone interested in an up-to-date scientific perspective regarding life and it's origins.

excellent starting point for clinicians and scientists
The format of this book makes it relatively simple to go straight to relevant information. Cross-referencing between chapters could be better. The overall picture generated by this tome allows one to get a handle on this disorder and provides a strong foundation on which to build when updating the knowlege using journals.

Excellent for class and/or CPA exam
I used this book for auditing class. In fact, this book is recommended by the professor. I like this book because it has the answers and explanations right next to it so you can check your answer right away. Of course, you cannot cheat yourself, so the book included a bookmark for you to cover the answers before you work on it. It is a great review book for exams, especially you are running out of time reading the textbook again. The information is very close and accurate to the textbook. It follows the pattern of most auditing textbooks.

Finally - help for the teacher
Bill Hubert's "Bal-A-Vis-X" finally gave me answers to many of the questions I've had over the years concerning those students who just can't seem to learn. I now have "hands-on" remedies for all my students. The kids love the exercises and they provide me with information about the kids I couldn't have gotten any other way.

Evokes a sense of North America's (recently) lost Serengeti
Kurten at al have described the wonderful variety of large mammals that lived in North America for millions of years, until as recently as 13,000 years ago. Saber- and scimitar-toothed cats, camels, sloths, mastodons, lions, cheetahs and other animals combined to make North America a teeming home to large game more diverse than Africa now has. Many fine illustrations accompany the text.

The book is well-written, easily accessible to the interested lay person and does not require college level understanding of morphological bone analysis. Having been to southern Africa in 1997, I now cannot drive or hike through rural North America without imaging mammoths, tapirs, bear-sized beavers, one-ton running bears, and glyptodonts coming to the watering holes and browsing and grazing their way across the landscape.

For a comprehensive college-level treatment, see "Quaternary Extinctions," Paul Martin and Richard Klein, editors.

"The inscrutable" takes a day off.
An appetizing pocketbook of choice Dharma writings. The translated works are presented in their entirety. A couple of the pieces are better known by other names (e.g., "Faith in Mind", "Song of Enlightenment").

I compared Nearman's translations to others, and I found that Nearman really makes the prose "swing in English", without harming the meaning. Other translations are more choppy, trying for poetry-like imagery, but Nearman's style always seeks (or one might say "dares") a more fully explicit intellectual comprehension. Easier to read, easier to comprehend, and easier to remember.

Nice book cover and a convenient size for travel or end table. This book is a "keeper" for Dharma reflections among the Ch'an and Soto traditions.

A Scholarly Overview of Climatic Changes in Historical Times
I used this book as a reference to write a position paper on global warming for a graduate course in Environmental Science. Professor Lamb's book is a fascinating account of how climate has impacted human history. Originally published in 1982 the new edition (1995) includes material on global warming, atmospheric pollution, population growth, and implications for future climatic fluctuations. This is a one stop reference.
