Uplifting and Fun
I first read this book when I was a youngster, back in the 70s. I now have my own son and looked for these books both in the US and in the UK only to find them out of print. The original stories from Beresford are heartwarming and fun for younger readers. I really wish someone would consider re-printing them! They are just as applicable today as 25 years ago. The newer versions of Womble stories are meant for the younger readers and do not have near the depth of the older books.

The Jenny Trilogy
I received the Jenny trilogy for Christmas one year because I am a devoted "Mainer", spending part of each summer there. These books evoke all that I love about Maine and Scotland. They are rich in the history, customs and peoples of the early 19th century. Elizabeth Olgivie is a wonderful storyteller who takes us through the lives of Jenny and Alick Glenroy from their first meetings in the highlands of Scotland through their "courtship" and marriage. Their story is warm and loving, romantic and exciting, heartbreaking and heart-lifting, and a throughly rewarding read. I only wish she would write a fourth book so we could follow Jenny and Alick's children into adulthood. While her dialogue can be a little confusing at times, her characterizations are wonderful as is her insight into the hearts and minds of each character. The descriptions of the land and the sea, the fog on the ocean , the rockbound coast of Maine are delicious. I started the first book on a Friday and had finished all three by following Wednesday. Her works reminds me of other favorite authors such as Maeve Binchy or the incomparable Norah Lofts. I recommend them highly.

Better than i expected
I had to read this for one of my religion classes, and i wasn't expecting it to be very interesting. However, once i got into the book, i found it to be very compelling. Fiorenza's insightful comments have made me go back and question what exactly is implied in the Gospels. She has done a fine job of pointing out that the patriarchal ideals found in Christianity were first found "in the context of the Greek city-state". One warning about this book: it's written for the academic community, and because of that, it doesn't make for easy reading.

Wise advice
This tape set is enjoyable listening. Elliot shares wise advice and tells appropriate stories from her life to bring home the truth that Scripture decision-making should be rational rather than emotional. I found these tapes very helpful, a great set to listen to and to save for future use.

The Music of His Promises
Elisabeth Elliot again has come up with a book to inspire and encourage people of every age. "The Music of His Promises" can be used as a daily devotional book, or with the index in back you can easily go to a topic you are searching for. As always her main goal is achieved by making you remember that the promises of God are forever and still relevent for todays problems and trials.
If you are a regular reader of Elisabeth Elliot's books then this is a must have. If you have never read her books and are looking for encouragement this is a good place to start.

The book tries to give you a vocabulary of around 300 words--chosen strategically. And you are taught how to form basic sentences, and ask questions in present and past tenses. After finishing the book I was able to ask directions, buy something in a store, give directions to taxi drivers, find out basic information at hotels as well as make small talk to Italians who could not speak English.
The book contains unfortunately very little grammar, thus alot of questions you will naturally have remain unanswered. So a reasonable italian grammar is also good to have at about the half way point through "Instant Italian".
