Second part of an important book over Aztecs' civilisation
Here is the last part of Aztecs' History in CHIMALPAHIN's compiling. It's followed by a precious kind of calendar by CHIMALPAHIN himself. A prime material to understand Aztecs' meaning of life. I'm waiting for the 4 other books of this exceptional collection of indigenous testimonies (Please excuse my bad English: I'm an usual French writer)

An important book over Aztecs' civilization
There are many "Codices" about MesoAmerica. This one is presented as a translate of primitive nahuatl compiling of Aztecs' History. An important contribution to Mexican History. The total collection counts 6 books; two are now available.

Some great recipes!
Although some of the recipes contain exotic ingredients that may be hard to get in some areas, many are relatively simple and incredibly delicious! Amazingly, they are also all low-fat. Plus, the book benefits a good cause. I've never gone wrong cooking something out of here--always raves from the guests!

Fabulous recipes for a great cause.

A gourmet delight and kitchen cook friendly!
Cooking Fresh From The Bay Area: The Bay Area's Best Recipes For Eating Local, Organic Produce at Its Seasonal Best is a seminal and ground breaking cookbook and guide bringing together savory recipes from twenty of the San Francisco Bay Area's best chefs. Cooking Fresh From The Bay Area is divided into Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall sections with an introduction on the seasonal crops available, informative commentaries by the contributors, and delicious recipes suited to the season's offerings. From Winter Squash Soup with Sweet Potato Pecan Relish, Asparagus with Balsamic Syrup and Parmigiano-Reggiano, to Spicy Tuna, Caper, Anchovy and Tomato Sandwiches, to Stuffed Caramelized Tomatoes with Vanilla Ice Cream, Apple Tarte Tatin with Cider Sauce, and Smoked Goat Cheddar and White Corn Chowder, Cooking Fresh From The Bay Area is a gourmet delight and kitchen cook friendly!

Informative and Inspiring
This is a great book for people who like to cook, people interested in living healthy, aware lifestyles, and a great resource guide for eating seasonally, locally, and organically. I think there is something like 80 different amazing recipes in the book. My favorites are the deserts: Summer Fruit Shortcake with Lemon Curd & Whipped Cream, Almond Tart with Fresh Berries & fresh Strawberry Ice Cream in Spring, a Winter Pumpkin Cheesecake with a Chocolate Hazelnut Crust, and multiple others. Of course, I wouldn't pass up any of the sumptuous entrees. If someone wanted to make me the Roasted Chicken with Tarragon Peach Sauce or the Smoked Lamb and Garlic Sausage with Roasted Red Pepper Confit & Mustard sauce, I would be happy enough to indulge them.

Beyond the food and recipes, there is a community within this book. It's a must-have for anyone living or travelling in California's Bay Area. One thing is for sure though--you don't have to be anywhere near California to enjoy the book. I highly recommend it.

De Como Robert Schumann Fue Vencido Por Los Demonios
Published in Paperback by Consortium Book Sales & Dist (1989)
Author: Francisco Hernandez
Amazon base price: $11.00
Average review score:

One of the greatest books of poetry in the last half-century
Francisco Hernández, with the poetry book "Moneda de tres caras" which includes "De cómo Robert Schumann venció a los demonios", has written one of the most powerful books of mexican poetry ever written. Highly recommendable for all readers and, specially, for all music-lovers.

Excelente!

A fine entry in the most under-rated mystery series around
A top-flite "Namless" mystery driven by a good story and, as always in Pronzini's books, and equally good personal back-story.

Why isn't this book in print? Why isn't the "Nameless" series more acclaimed? In my opinion, "Nameless" ranks as among the best detectives in the genre (along with Block's Scudder).

Another great book in this excellent series
Along with "Shackles," I think this is a high point of the Nameless Detective series. The PI agrees to take on the kind of job he hates the most as a favor to a friend -- help a woman whose husband is having an affair. The husband's paramour, Nedra, is a seductress with whom he is completely obsessed. Eventually, Nedra goes missing -- and in her absence, the cheating husband goes off the deep end. This is a totally absorbing book, made even more so by the addition of personal problems in the detective's life (his longtime love, Kerry, appears to be having an affair of her own; his ex-partner, Eberhardt, continues giving Nameless the cold shoulder). I'm so grateful to Pronzini for continuing this series and really wish more people realized how great it is!

Very, very cute and clever
Great little book teaching children the meaning of "opposite" words using clever elephant drawings. My favorites are boy-girl, smart-stupid, subtraction-addition, visible-invisible, torn-fixed.

An Instant Classic!
This simple but clever collection of opposites stands head and shoulders above the usual treatment of this basic idea. It has a sense of humor that will appeal to all ages, and a slightly anarchic attitude (think EVERYONE POOPS!) that make it great to read and re-read. Droll and well designed--excellent work!

Biograghy at it's best
This book is one of the best biographies I have read in years. Mainly because it captures Sarria not as a dry historical figure, but captures who he is and the way he remembers his life and his rich and eccentric personality as well. Gorman tells about his personal struggles and views while writing this book in an article that can be found at http://www.angelfire.com/ca3/mattsmind/gorman.html

A Profile of a Remarkable Man with Lots of Humour
This semi-autobiographical story of Jose Sarria, the founder of the Imperial Court System in San Francisco CA in 1965, is a remarkable read. Jose has been aware of his Gay identity since childhood and never had a problem with it. In this book we learn of his many experiences from World War II to several World Fairs to the history of the Imperial Court system. Throughout the book, Jose's voice is clear and to the point. Reading his quotes is like having tea with him. You laugh and cry and learn to love a remarkable man. He's Gandhi in a dress and still going strong! Perfect reading for the beach or for gift giving.

The Ferry Building: Witness to a Century of Change 1898-1998

Author: Nancy Olmsted

A Stunning Pictorial History... Fascinating!
Nancy Olmsted's "The Ferry Building" is truly a rich visual journey. It is a celebration of urban experience. It is a tribute to all that is wonderful, unique and special about transportation, ferries, and urban living. The stunning visual images remind us that we are deeply connected to our transit, to the water of the Bay, and to our urban community spaces. It illustrates the richness of our maritime heritage, the gift of our waterfront, and the importance of appreciating and preserving the Ferry Building as a monument of all that is great about San Francisco.

-- Perry Brissette, Friends of the Berkeley Ferry

Magnificent. A Perfect Historical Record.
The most extraordinary collection of vintage San Francisco photographs I've ever seen. A fantastically well researched book in addition to being a visual masterpiece.
