2nd only to the Journals of Lewis & Clark
I got this book through Amazon's out-of-print book service after reading Kenneth Roberts books Arundel and Rabble in Arms. March to Quebec is history as a primary source, and it is amazing. The volume consists of the journals of then Colonel Benedict Arnold and several of the patriots who accompanied him on his ill-fated march through the Wilderness of Maine during a sneak attack on quebec. The idea, which Arnold and his mentor General Washington cooked up, was to take Quebec and add it as a 14 colony/state. There was much adventure and intrigue. Some famous names invloved on the March are Nathaniel Green, Daniel Morgan, Dearborn, and even a young Aaron Burr. These journals leap off the page and are probably the best journals available outside those of a genration later, Lewis & Clark. Highly recommended.

molecular biology of the heart
This book by K. Chien is an excellent example of the transfer of basic knolewdge in molecular biology of the heart to the comprehension of basic mechanisms on cardiovascular diseases. I think that Molecular basis of cardiovascular diseases is essential for researchers in the field of cardiovascular pathology.

Excellent Myeloma Reference source
Myeloma is a very difficult and deadly sickness with no cure. Many people are misdiagnosed for years. This Handbook expands on what the IMF says in their booklet so extensively that I recommend it highly as an educational even though technical tool. Great job by Oxford Press and my only regret is that there is no simple way to update it more often. So far there were 1995 and 1998 editions, I look forward to the 2001 edition which could mean an overhaul of the themes. A few non focus subjects on the sickness could be eliminated.

Notorius Abess
This is a book full of the interesting events the Abess Hodierna goes through. Her events include magical conjurings and taking care of fantastical animals to encounters with the Devil himself. "Providing a refreshing change from today's typical fantasy heroines, Abess of Shaston is neither and invinsable sorceress nor a princess in desguise. She is clever and compassionate with an independent spirit, sensible though easily led astray by insatiable curiosity." This book is nothing as it seem and is a perfect time to say, "Don't judge a book by its cover."

Physics--Once Over-Lightly
Published in Textbook Binding by John Wiley & Sons (June, 1972)
Author: Kenneth Robert, Atkins
Amazon base price: $16.75
Average review score:

Strongly recommended in "The Search for Schrodinger's Cat"
Here's what the Cambridge University educated astrophysicist John Gribbin has to say about this book in the recommended reading list at the end of his excellent popular work "In Search of Schrodinger's Cat: Quantum Physics and Reality" (Bantam Physics, 1982):

"Kenneth Atkins, 'Physics--Once Over--Lightly', Wiley, New York, 1972.

"This is intended as a textbook for a one semester course in physics for nonscience majors, but it is interesting and clear enough to be of interest for the more casual reader. As a serious guide to physics for nonscientists, it is the best of its kind, and carries the reader through from simple beginnings to relativity, quantum mechanics, nuclei, and particles. Although philosophical implications and the meaning of quantum reality are only touched upon, the book provides the basics of quantum cookery clearly for anyone who wants to try putting a few numbers into the equations. Strongly recommended."

I've just finished reading "In Search of Schrodinger's Cat", and I enjoyed it immensely. So now I'm going to track down a copy of this book, and work through a few of its "quantum cookery" examples.

A must have*****
This is a great pocketbook on pulmonary function tests. Does not replace Rupel's PFT book, but it is written in "normal daily" language and covers only most important info that you need to know which makes it very appealing and easy to read/comprehend PFT subject. This is one of the best textbook style pocketbooks that I have encountered yet. I recommend this book to all MDs who need to order/interpret PFTs, interns, and respiratory therapists (who usually perform and interpret these tests).

It's about time! The only nuts-&-bolts book I've found.
I can't say enough good things about this book. I've been keeping my own journals (cheat sheets)for years that I referance all the time. Now, (finally)a publisher has learned just what I (we, et el)need in our day to day work. I hate having to sift through, what is basicly a teaching guide, to get to what I need to know. This book is the "Motors Manual" of the NT Server. Joe Friday said it best,"Just the facts , madam".
