A high quality work of art.
This collection of "comic" stories from various artists is a beautiful work of art. The quality of the book is wonderful, the color and print is strong. It is a great book to have in a collection. I'm sure some of these artists will go far, if they haven't done so already. I would love to see more of there individual work.

Great variety of artistic styles, beautifully printed!
This is a high quality collection of illustrated stories. All of the artists have very different styles. The print and color quality is amazing.

Paul's Idea of Community
Published in Textbook Binding by Attic Pr (1988)
Author: Robert Banks
Amazon base price: $26.95
Average review score:

Excellent Book on House Churches
I am a youth pastor in a local church. I have often struggled with the current model we have of the American church. The traditions we hold so dear are so often not based on clear New Testament teachings. I have longed for a church where "one another" passages are lived out, where accountability is strong, where the pastor is not a CEO but a servant, where leaders are biblically chosen and where the Church is not divided on various theological camps. The only place to usually find this, sadly to say, is in cults (where the gospel is not preached in its power or truth).

Banks will offer you hope if you are like me and you are burned out on "church as usual." He will challange you to examine Scripture with fresh insights into house churches in their historical context. He will challange your notion of "Church" in our westernized thinking and will lead you to a biblical and fresh restoration of the true Church of Jesus Christ. We must move away from the Institutionalized church and return to the New Testament pattern that Banks gives in detail in this book.

Crossing the interpritive bridge to the meaning of "Church"
Robert Banks interpritation of the Apostal Pauls view of the Church is enlightening to the modern reader of the New Testament. Banks presents a contextual historical account of St. Paul's understanding of the Church of his day, which in return spurs the thoughts of the reader to contemplate the state of the Church in this day and age. This is an excelent book for those interested in understanding the historical beginings of the Church as well as what Paul understood the church to be. I recommend this book to all who are contemplating what the Church is called to be in this day and age, by looking at what it originaly was.

Extremely useful if you want to "manage" Cisco equipment
I like the book for the following reasons and many more: -covers both routers & switches -covers the show commands as well as the equivalent SNMP objects -tells me the inside information (e.g.) Which ver of IOS started supporting sub-interfaces, IOS hidden commands -tells me how I can leverage applications like HpOV NNM, MRTG etc

And it tells all this and more in a simple language (e.g.) The chapter on monitoring CPU & Memory resources explains lucidly how one can be proactive about monitoring these 2 key elements.

The chapter on VLAN management is another good example. One of the topics it covers is about monitoring spanning tree topology changes, how you can use community string indexing to get vlan information for each individual vlan

Incredible
I am certainly not a professional but found this book very informative. The writing was "reader friendly" but, of course, having a computer and being networked certainly are not enough credentials to fully understand the nuances of this book. I highly recommend this book for people "in the business."

Political Parties: A Sociological Study of the Oligarchical Tendencies of Modern Democracy

Essential Reading
In the many arguments I've had over the merits of collective action, I have found few arguments as useful as Michels' "iron Law of Oligarchy", stating that even the most egalitarian orginizations wind up having their decisions made by a select few at the top. Morever, institutional reforms will not help, since this tendency is inherent to complex orginization. Surveying the intensification of power across a host of socialist parties and publications, Michels provides much empirical evidence. Too much, at times, as after about 200 pages of stories about leadership groups developing in socialist orginizations, the book starts to drag a little bit. It is all worth it, however, as the "iron law of oligarchy" is one of the most fascinating arguments you'll ever find in a book about politics. Seymour Martin Lipset's introductory comments provide interesting background info.

Monumental work of political science
Michels was a member of a socialist movement who wondered if one could ever have what today is called participatory democracy. The result is this wonderful book, in which Michels discovers the "Iron Law of Oligarchy", that even in the most egalatarian movements, elites will call most of the shots. Michels goes further than many elite theorists who simply claim that this has always been so: he claims that elite management is inherent to complex organizations. Whether you agree or disagree, you must read this man and debate his ideas!

Pride of Puerto Rico: The Life of Roberto Clemente

Very nice and easy to understand.
It was so good that when I received it, I could not put it down till the end. That night I went to bed at 4:33AM. Mr.Robert Walker, 2 thumbs up to a well documented piece of art. Again THANK YOU for this biography.

It was my favorite
He palyed for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the youngest in his family, just like me. His dad made alot of money compared to the others that lived around them. Roberto rode his bike to another town to try out for a softball team. It was only a couple of miles from his home. His school was trying to teach him to speak English, and he didn't do very good, but he tried.

The Best Stress Management Theory Text for Professionals
Having been a practitioner and trainer in the field of Stress management (even helped develop questions for the Stress Management Certification Exam) it has been my responsibility to learn lots of different models and techniques for helping people understand and manage stress.

This book presents the most important, most effective and powerful models and techniques, many written by their original developers. It is a valuable, unique resource, primarily for professionals and practitioners. It provides both theoretical and practical technique information. But it is probably not the best book for the average layman wanting to deal with stress more effectively. Laymen (and professionals) should consider the Relaxation and Stress Workbook, in that case. But professionals will want the Lehrer Woolfolk, compilation because of the detailed theoretical grounding provided for the techniques, which include Autogenic training, Clinically Standardized meditation, Progressive muscle relaxation, biofeedback. And many more.

I can't emphasize enough that these are not just chapters written by anyone. This is the "Woodstock" of stress theory and practice books, with chapters by the "stars" of the field.

Excellent book, very clear and scientific
This is an excellent book about stress managment. The autors give a cler idea about the use of many stress managment techniques, including progressive muscular relaxation, autogenic training, meditation, yoga based therapy, cognitive approaches to stress, exercise and others. All the articles have a lot of referencces to reserach results with the techniques, wich show us the scientificity of the methods. It also includes some chapters with the comparation of the research results with many techniques and their applicability to clinical problems. I would recomend this book to all psychologist interested in the field.

Sedges: Carex (The Illustrated Flora of Illinois)
Published in Hardcover by Southern Illinois Univ Pr (Txt) (1999)
Authors: Robert H. Mohlenbrock and Paul Nelson
Amazon base price: $60.00
Average review score:

Great Illustrations
Very useful book. Excellent illustrations. If you want to know what sedges are, I give it five stars.

Mohlenbrock Carex
Mohlenbrock's addition to the illustrated floras available in the midwest is most welcome. This volume describes the taxonomy and illustrates each species of Carex found in Illinois. The application to adjacent states is relatively easy since the genus is widespread. The book provides an update of the Carex section of the Gleason New Britton and Brown Illustrated Flora which is now out of print. Mohlenbrock's Illinois Flora was not illustrated and given the complexity of the genus, the clear diagrams and location maps make an arduous taxonomic task somewhat, I emphasize somewhat, easier. If you are working in wetlands this volume will be of special interest to you and should be a part of your office collection.

Fantastic book on Shakespeare
This winter break I went on a Shakespeare buying spree, and this book is one of the fine gems I found. A large, but fascinating book, this work of great scholarship and excitement takes the reader on a whirlwind tour of Shakespeare, even into rather obscure corners of his works (Trollius and Cressida, Timon of Athens). This book is a must read for any would be deep thinker about Shakespeare.

The New Shakespeareans
Shakespeare as Political Thinker is a must for everyone interested in the political thought of William Shakespeare. This reprint will finally allow new comers to become familair with a commonsensical approach to Shakespeare's plays. The introductory chapter by John Alvis is worth the price. Perhaps the best Shakespearean critic alive, Alvis has an uncanny ability to show Shakespeare's moral seriousness without making the bard an unquestioning adherent to any political school or theological creed. Many of the essays that follow are also well done: Jaffa's chapter on Shakespeare's entire corpus, Laurence Berns' meditation on Lear etc.

The second printing of Shakespeare as Political Thinker gives hope to those interested in relearning ancient wisdom and pays tribute to its inspiration, Shakespeare's Politics (Allan Bloom).

Window to a different world
Organized crime doesn't occur in Canada; that's the perception I held until I read this book. Roberts and Snider opened my eyes to a different view.

Through the one-of-a-kind experiences of Cal Broeker, the writers demonstrate that the cancerous and adaptive Canuck underworld, with its global connections, is as gripping to read about as it would be fearsome to experience.

Lays bare the heretofore murky underworld or organized crime
Collaboratively written by Paul William Roberts and Norman Snider, Smokescreen: One Man Against The Underworld is the true story Carl Broeker, an ordinary businessman who was betrayed by his partner and forced to confront a deadly, blacklist world of organized crime and illicit trafficking. Drawn into undercover work with the Secret Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Broeker found himself caught up in a deadly thrill ride of lies, deceits, crime in this compelling biographical narrative of international crime lords, illegal smuggling operations, and political corruption. Smokescreen strips away the subterfuge and lays bare the heretofore murky underworld or organized crime on both sides of the Canadian/American border.
