Painfully insightful book by an author with CFIDS
As a newly diagnosed person, this is one of the first books that I read. The explanation of CFIDS and general treatments available is well written. Author sites his specific symptoms and how it has affected his life, which at times is painful to read. My favorite chapters included the one on dealing with family and friends and the interview with the doctor from Massachusetts. This interview lends credibility to the disease and was concise. Happy reading!

The Complete Book of Everyday Christianity: An A-To-Z Guide to Following Christ in Every Aspect of Life
Published in Paperback by Intervarsity Press (1998)
Authors: Robert J. Banks and R. Paul Stevens
Amazon base price: $28.00
Used price: $50.27
Average review score:

A remarkable work of incredible scope
I have heard Paul Stevens speak and was impressed by his incredible wealth of knowledge. I am pleased to see that he and Robert Banks have got together to share this knowledge with believers in the massive compendium of interesting articles.

More than just a series of issues the authors want to speak on, they have brought many well known Christians together to write on everything from politics to masturbation, technology to rest, and celebration to even chocolate! Some of the topics are done somewhat tongue in cheek, but they help a Christian understand that the Christian life is to be lived in everything around them, that it applies to all aspects of life.

This is a great reference book for those who are leading Bible studies, asked to comment on something or who have their own questions about certain issues. It is helpful to get a person's though processes going.

Of course, the problem with this is that, though huge, it cannot hope to be exhaustive. Moreover, in doing as much as it has, it rarely explores an issue in depth. Its intent, though, I think was met: it helps the Christian to see that Christ is truly Lord of ALL.

Good Combination
Dialogue and Discovery has many great articles and essays of many kinds. The content is divided 2 pars. Part one gives readers good examples of essays and articles, which help readers write their own essays and also teach them how to analyze and improve what they want to write. Part two includes many essays and articles of many kinds, from many different points of view. I especially like section 8, 'The Science,' which has many interesting essays written by several authors. What interested me about these essays is that they point out problems argued today, 2000 even though those essays are written in 70s and 80s. Of course, there are many great essays and articles other than the science section. Not only does the book offer readers fine essays and articles, but it also gives you good ideas how to write. I really recomend this book as well as 'Negotiating Difference' which is very much similar to D and D.

as inventors go...
Perhaps more detail has been written about Tesla, than his arch rival, Thomas Edison. The former was in the real sense, an inventor, while Edison, for all intent, was a tinkerer; that is, he took objects and concepts and made them better or workable. Sure, we have all heard about the Phonograph, and the Electric light bulb that Edison made workable, but most accounts summarize his dealings rather than scrutinize them.
The Authors of this book, wrote a highly detailed scholarly account of the 'inventor' Edison, in a way few other authors have ever accomplished.
As for the Tesla/Edision rivalry, I think it fortunate that Tesla won over the world with A/C electric Current rather than Edison's D/C; makes for less electrocutions in the home. Perhaps, fate was that all these inventors and tinkerers were at bat together, but I sometimes wonder what would have happened had they been spread out a little so that more detailed notes could have been made of their work and contribution.

The Great Getty: The Life and Loves of J. Paul Getty--Richest Man in the World
Published in Paperback by New American Library (1987)

The Great Getty is a Great Read
Robert Lenzer does an excellent job of showing every side of a very multi-faceted man. J. Paul Getty may be described as a horrible father, an unsurpassed lover, a great business man or a paranoid eccentric. Lenzer finds a way to portray all these descriptions and more in just 235 pages. Lenzer does not drag down the conversational tone with technical business terms. Although business was of central importance to Getty and, as such, of central importance to the book, Lenzer throws in pieces about Getty's personal life to keep the reader entertained.
My sole complaint is that sometimes Lenzer appears to be stretching to make the book longer. Many times Lenzer goes off on tangents, describing a particular favorite beach of Getty's, or giving the history of some of Getty Oil Company's rivals. It seems that Lenzer does not feel he has enough primary source material about Getty alone, so he makes the most of the sources he does have.
Despite the stretching, The Great Getty provides a few hours of entertainment (and often shock) as Lenzer shows us just what it might be like to walk in the shoes of the richest man in the world.

Great resource for teachers
This book is a great reference outline for high school teachers with advanced World History classes. It gives great lists that are starting point for your lectures, especially if your students are not adept at note-taking. I love this little book for the first semester.

excellent : 4.5 stars
Great book on interpreting most common PFTs. Not a technique teaching book (get Ruppel or Madama PFT book if need that) but more on how to interpret PFTs. Written in semi-outline format = easier to read and absorb info. One of the best chapters, which at first does not look interesting is the last chapter which contains 45 cases of various cardiopulmonary situations (regarding PFts). This book is perfect for busy MD (usually pulmonologist) who orders and interprets these underutilized tests and Respiratory Therapists (who usually perform and initially interpret these tests).

Introduction to Plasma Physics

Authors: Paul H. Rutherford and Robert J. Goldston
Amazon base price: $210.00

The 4th element
I am a university student who major in physics. and this book was a text in plasma course. As plasma group of princeton univ. is strong, this book is strong enough to understand plasma. most favorite thing in this book is sufficient explanation about the physical and mathmatical explanation. and the not good thing is a little dirty mathmatical calculation. so if you want clear mathmatics, I think you had better look another book. Anyway if you read this from cover to cover, you can learn ABC of Plasma. isn't it wonderful?
