A must-have for your Reiki library
These three authors have created a superb Reiki book, one of the very few available that discusses the factual history of Reiki. The history is important if one is to understand what Reiki is, and what it's not.

They write a good deal about what Reiki is, in fact, including procedures and practices not easily found elsewhere. They thoughtfully include pictures, diagrams, and careful descriptions that assist those who are unfamiliar with these forms of Reiki.

This would have rated five stars, had they sought out a better editor and included an index. These three authors deserve a better treatment of their work: the errors were distracting. An index is almost a must-have for a book like this--I will have to settle for sticky-note bookmarks for important passages or subjects.

Buy it anyway. It's one of the best Reiki resources I've seen, and it should be on the bookshelf of every teacher and practitioner.

Nice Overview of Reiki Healing & Traditions
This book carefully examines the roots of Reiki healing and the nature of energy healing, from a metaphysical and scientific perspective. It provides many beneficial insights and explanations, covering everything from chakras & subtle energy layers to shamanism, the meridians, and Taoist theories of yin/yang & 5 elements. In covering so much, the authors address some issues that need to be covered in more depth. For example, the chakra color associations listed are misleading, and the elements described are just one system which is not compared to other common metaphysical/alchemical systems. Nevertheless, this book is about the best at putting Reiki in a suitable context and explaining how and why it produces healing and transformation.

Everything you NEED to know about Reiki , Really!
After having taught Reiki for seven years, and practiced Reiki for ten years, I have read a lot of Reiki books , many have been disappointingly repeatative or to esoteric. This is one of two books I highly recommend to my students, the other being Diane Steins book, Essential Reiki. This book is well written by seekers of the genuine roots of the Reiki Healing tradition. If you want to understand the mind of Mikao Usui Sensai a little better, I think these writers have revealed the truth. I learned a lot myself and am very satisfied with the techniques taugh here. The author's reveal the origional manuals and techniques taught by the founders of this tradition . Is has been great confirmation of ideas I have intuited in my own practice and has taken me further up the road of my own spiritual path.

good structered overview of Mantak Chia's teaching
I began with Tao Yoga reading Mantak Chia's books - they're great ! This one presents essentially the same knowledge, with some minor add ons (and leave outs). What I liked about it is the well structered approach (something I missed with Chia) and the excellent illustrations. I recommend it as an introduction to Tao Yoga. If you can afford it get the Chia books as well. And YES, my sex life got a hell lot more exciting!

VERY DETAILED - Excellent Descriptions
Yudelove did a great job bringing this info to the West. There is so much info and history and understanding in this book, that I can confidently recommend it to any of my Nei Gung or Nei Jia friends or students. Presented more like a workbook than a book makes this book a great training tool. No need to say more.

Very Well Done - 5 Stars!

Brilliant !
This is a unique book, a step-by-step tutor to higher levels of Taoist Spiritual Alchemy given in a systematic way. The final God and Goddess exercise is the best technique I have come across - yet it appears as a result from all 14 weeks' exercises woven into an extremely efficient method which puts us in contact with higher forces of the Universe. The books seems like a summary of Mantak Chia's reachings, but in fact it is not. It is a real breakthough.

Just an advice - the book may be used by beginners, but I recommend potential practitioners to start with the "100 Days" book by the author. The Golden Flower will make things REALLY work.

Poorly written
I've used this book in some of my Reiki training classes, and though the information is good, it is badly in need of editing. I've also learned, since reading some of Frank Arjava Petter's books, that Mitchell's history of Reiki is not entirely accurate.

It is amateurishly written and edited, though I have found much of the information useful.

A Wonderful Place to Begin Your Journey
Karyn Mitchell's book gives you the basics AND all the details of traditional Reiki in this one concise place.

With Spiritual conscience and clear educational focus, she shares the Reiki experience with you so that you will benefit and gather much information, no matter what your experience level to date has been.

Beginners and Experienced Reiki Practitioners need to read this book and keep it around for reference! I am a Reiki Master and highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about traditional Reiki.

One of the best books on Reiki
One of the better books on the healing methods of traditional Reiki, written by Master-Teacher Karyn Mitchell, Ph.D., N.D., of the Hawayo Takata-Iris Ichitaro lineage. The author is a Doctor of Naturopathy, a psychologist, and certified teacher of hypnotherapy, as well as a Reiki Practitioner and Master-Teacher of Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki and Tera Mai Reiki.

When my guides called me to take the Reiki training, I didn't even know what it was. They just kept hammering at me to "DO THIS THING". I set out to find out just what Reiki was all about. I read about a dozen books on Reiki, but this one book stood out. It was basic, clearly written, pragmatic yet with recognition of the more esoteric aspects of Reiki. Karyn has written several other books on Reiki, but this was her first and remains the introductory text for her Reiki classes.

I was ecstatic to discover that Master Karyn lives within driving distance of my home in suburban Chicago. I immediately called her and enrolled in the Level 1 training. I subsequently took Levels II and III from her also.

Karyn Mitchell and her husband, Steve, who is also a Reiki Master-Teacher and a Crystal Healing Teacher (certified by "Melody"), can be reached at: Haven Center for Healing & Education 603 Geneva Road, St. Charles, IL 60174 phone: 815-732-7150 email: Mitchell@essex1.com

May be right for you, depending on your level of knowledge
This is a good basic primer on Kundalini, the human energy system, and meditation. I disagree with the previous reviewer's comments regarding Chris Kilham's voice being "soothing." While his voice is not grating, it is far from soothing, particularly when you consider that the pace of the tape moves along at a rather quick rate. (I get the feeling that they had more material than would fit on one tape, and so the pace is a tad rushed). Still, I feel that this is a good tape overall, and well worth the money, particularly if you're fairly new to the subject.

soothing, wonderful voice, facinating subject
Chris's voice is very pleasant to listen to. His material is presented in layman terms so a cheechocko listener can follow, learn, and benefit. And become knowledgeable and profficient in tapping and using the tremendous power Chris presents you with the key to.

Great Book for new practitioners & those interested.
This is a nice book for anyone interested in learning more about Reiki from a straight forward book with reliable information. The book begins with an explaination of universal life energy, then a nice little history of the Usui system (the traditional system of Reiki healing). The book goes on to give practical advice for new practitioners including a detailed section of b&w photos for hand placements for self, others, as well as animals. The book concludes with the authors' personal Reiki stories which are quite interesting.

I really enjoyed this book!
Very well written and easy to follow. Lots of good information on Reiki and its history.

A wonderful book for Healers and Musicians and everyone else
"Ears of the Angels" is not just about tuning violins energetically. It's a really well written book about energy healing. So many metaphysical books nowadays are the same as the last 10 books you bought - this one is different. Deena Spear has a wonderful writing style; it's like reading a letter from your funny, wry and loving friend who happens to tune violins over the telephone. This book is not another flakey, new-agey book used to hawk a product. She is imparting wisdom and knowledge. The methods and stories are very interesting. I am not a musician but was drawn to this book and really enjoyed it. Apply the information in your life and to anything, not just a violin. I've already got friends waiting to borrow it when I am done!
Now the only warning I would extend is that if you read it, your mind might expand. Otherwise, buy it - it's wonderful.

Everything is Energy & Vibrates -- And Can be Tuned!
Neurobiologist Deena Spear writes with candor and self-effacing humor in EARS OF THE ANGELS about how energy work can heal and transform violins, violas, cellos... and human beings. Spear's fascinating, detailed descriptions of violin enhancement began with physical techniques (such as tapping, blowing, and scraping), and moved into non-physical, hands-on and long-distance energetic techniques.

What sets EARS OF THE ANGELS apart from most other energetic healing books is the way it describes energetic acoustic principles that can heal both stringed instruments such as violins, and sentient beings such as humans. Spear includes delightful real-life stories from clients whose instruments have been tuned (and sometimes even glued) long-distance without any direct physical contact from Spear that clearly attest to the efficacy of her methods. She describes how her energy tuning work has helped pets become cancer-free, people become toxin-free, and significantly improved relationships.

Anyone interested in enhancing the sound of stringed instruments will find EARS OF THE ANGELS essential reading, as will everyone who wishes to discover more about the kinds of physical changes that are possible through conscious intention and energy field work. I give EARS OF THE ANGELS my highest recommendation!

overrated
not much useful information. I'm so disappointed

A Practical Approach to Reiki
It was my desire to bring the message of Reiki in a very grounded and practical approach when I wrote this book. This is still my desire today. Keep it simple and practical yet give people an opportunity to see how easy and effective Reiki can be in their everyday lives. It is my hope that you will be able to understand this beautiful system not only with your mind but also with your heart. If you have not taken Reiki into your life you may choose to go so after reading the book, and for those of you who are in Reiki it will continue to be a good practical book to keep on your shelf and share with others.

My first Reiki book. Highly Recommend
This was recommended to me by a Reiki master as an excellent introduction to Reiki. I bought the book from the local bookstore and decided, based on the information in this book, that I wanted to practice Reiki.

I took Reiki I & II locally and, after much practice and healing, went on to become a Master myself. Now I recommend the book to those who show an interest in, and who want to know more about, Reiki before committing time and money to become trained in Reiki.

An excellent recource. Thank you, Mari.

Castaneda goes Reiki
As I wrote in the title - Castaneda goes Reiki - and this is simply put Shamanism combined with Reiki. Here you'll find descriptions of how to create and communicate with power places and spirits, and how to use Reiki for paintings, how to make the author's Reiki essences and his opinions on how to use crystals and pendulums in different ways with Reiki. There's not much "new" or revolutionary ideas in this book, but you'll definitely get a nice and entertaining moment of reading. The book will in the best cases awaken your old, forgotten and hidden knowledges and in the worst cases you'll fall asleep since there are some pointers and warnings that is repeated which seems a little bit unnecessary.

A wealth of wisdom and of technique
Rainbow Reiki by Walter Lubeck sets forth with the intent, according to the subtitle, of "expanding the reiki system with powerful spiritual abilities." This amazingly short, at 175 pages, text extensively explores the vast expanse of rainbow reiki technique and application. This thorough examination of the topic will prove beneficial to the reader with only minimal difficulty.

Walter Lubeck , a Reiki Master and author of several books, including The Complete Reiki Handbook, Reiki--Way of the Heart, and others, is the founder and director of the Reiki-Do Institute. He has developed rainbow reiki as a means of incorporating additional alternative healing modalities, such as channelling, astral travel, reiki essences, and others, into synergistic combination with reiki healing. As a synergism of the parts, this expanded reiki method promises to supply the practitioner with a wide range of potent techniques.

Most Reiki practitioners will probably feel quite comfortable within the world of Rainbow Reiki. Lubeck is quite thorough in detailing both the history of Usui reiki and the development of rainbow reiki. The prerequisites for performing the techniques he offers are explained in great detail. As the reader moves forward through the text, she will find chapter after chapter rich with techniques, ranging from aura and crystal techniques to uses of mandalas and power vortices...and much, much more. Perhaps few will be able or inclined to use or master all that is offered in this book; but everyone is sure to come away from reading it with at least a few new practices to add to their repertoire.

The difficulties with Rainbow Reiki are minimal. Stylistically, Rainbow Reiki is written in a somewhat dry, academic tone that some readers may find difficult to endure. Nonetheless, perseverence will reap rewards for the diligent reader. The only other point of issue is that Reiki I practitioners may feel left out since most of the practices of the book are specifically directed for use by more advanced reiki practitioners. This need not be the case, however, if the Reiki I reader uses this book to spur them on to advancement to higher levels and as a means of familiarizing themselves with some of the practices that await them as they advance.

In conclusion, Rainbow Reiki, though moderately difficult to read, is well worth the effort for the sheer wealth of techniques so extensively explained in its pages. Few, if any, other books are available to explore the world of reiki and specifically rainbow reiki in such breadth and depth

If you are not a Shaman...
This book by Lubeck is great. Those of us that know little about Shamanism are sure to be trilled with the innovative techniques that Lubeck offers. Since the beggining of the book Lubeck gives out warnings in the matter of practicing the techniques and outlines every single one of them step by step so that any body with the minimal qualifications may practice them, outlining this kind of techniques is a big responsability and Lubeck stays at the heigth of the situation. It may be a little hard for those not used to reading academic books but is still a blast for your Reiki practice. All those that have read and use some of those techniques will agree with me that this book is a must have for any Reiki Master.

Excellent Book for healing
Reiki & Other Rays of Touch Healing by Kathleen Milner. A comprehensive manual on healing. The author gives concrete examples in both the use of symbols and a variety of healing techniques interwoven into her own healing processes (following two automobile accidents) and her subsequent work on the inner planes with higher beings. The book explains techniques that can be utilized to develop psychic abilities and how to achieve deeper levels of meditation, and then ties this in with the healing process and different mysticisms. Kathleen offers her readers a fresh, meaningful understanding of the history of Reiki combined with Jesus' teachings and related aspects of other spiritualisms. There are chapters dealing with the use of healing energy in ceremonial work and Feng Shui. There's also a chapter devoted to healing animals, including a story of how a horse was healed of blindness in two weeks.

Kathleen believes that all healing energy comes from the Creative, Loving Force behind this Universe, and the final chapter explains the dynamics of initiation into reiki and the other rays of touch healing. If you are a healer, or you're involved in the healing process, it is a source you may find yourself often referring to.

Very well written with very useful healing methods
This book explains very clear the history and evolution of the healing system Reiki since the introduction of this wonderful gift by Mikao Usui. A lot has been said about all the different Reiki systems...the only way to know for yourself what is best for you is to look at what the Reiki Masters and their students can do. Can they perform healings as they were done by Mikao Usui, or not? Kathleen gives very useful examples of how she performs Reiki healing sessions with ready to use hand positions, meditation techniques and healing techniques. The different trigger points on the body are described and their use in Reiki healing sessions. Very often I find myself looking up information about healing techniques when I do Reiki sessions myself. A wonderful book about Reiki and healing.

In response to comments
I can appreciate that you encourage reader comments. I can also appreciate that readers may not agree with everything that I have to say. In the "Introduction" to both of my books I encourage people to consider the possibilities, see what works and form their own opinions. Within the content of my books I also give some ways of ascertaining the Truth. However, one of the most consistent comments that I receive is that my books are very readable. Rather than being 12-point type (which is actually larger than most books) and single-spaced, my books are 10-point type and double spaced. This allows readers to take notes or as others have pointed out, people can read between the lines. I do often digress to make a point, but I always come back to the original thought and then tie thoughts together. It is like weaving a tapestry but my colors are words, my yarn is ideas and together they create patterns of thought. Most readers feel that this gives my work substance; that is, ideas are based in reality so that they can grab a hold with their minds. In addition, for those who learn visually there are companion videos listed in the back of both "Reiki & Other Rays of Touch Healing" and "Tera, My Journey Home". Thank you, Kathleen Milner

THE COLOR BOX
Published in Misc. Supplies by Red Wheel/Weiser (2001)
Author: Lori Reid
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

not the best, but not the worst
This is a very interesting book dealing with color but it is extremely off in one area to my disliking. Lori talks about our personal color (skin, hair, eyes). She puts us into catagories according to our human colors. These catagories are: "earth", "fire", "water", and "air". First of all, the fire section was blue and the water section was red...is it just me, or is that backwards? Second, I'm a blueish/pinkish skinned, light haired blonde with dark brown eyes. I end up falling into three catagories...so according to her, I am...? A color mutt? To judge people by their human appearance, is to develop prejudice. This section is silly and groundless, I suggest ignoring it completely. She also talks about what colors look good on us and what colors to avoid...if you want real advice and info on this subject, consult a fashion/beauty book.
The rest of the book is what receives the stars. I enjoyed learning about the effects of color on ourselves. She explores colors in our living and working enviroments. Our auras and chakras. She gives a lot of insight to colors in general. If you love colors then I recommend reading this book. It is fun but keep an open mind and don't view it as a bible.
As for the pomanders included with the book. WOW! They are beautiful and the scents will sooth your being. They're not stinky perfume that you might gag on from a passer-by. Truly earth born scents of calming beauty. BUT! If you want to buy more, be prepared to open your wallet and go broke. The pomanders cost $$ for one 25 ml vial. That's $$$ if you want all 15. For this price, I'll add food coloring to my favorite perfumes.

the perfect box of color
This little kit is perfect. I absolutely love it. Color Box touches down on many aspects of color's functions, how it is already present in our lives, and how to further incorporate it into daily living. From healing with auras and crystals, to the positive effects of scents and feng shui, this box is perfectly packed with tons of information to get you started on using color in all it's healing ways. I highly recommend picking up with kit (which includes scented oils and corresponding poster, color cards, and a book) if you have ever been interested in the affects of color on our minds, and using it to better your life.

Color Box
If you are interested in the chakras or feng shui or just the beauty of the rainbow this book is for you. Add the fun of essential oils and you've really got a winner. I used this book and the oils to do a chakra series with my yoga students - they loved it and I had kundalini awakening!!
