With 200 examples of David Coulson's color photography
Alec Campbell's African Rock Art: Paintings And Engravings On Stone, superbly and profusely illustrated with more than two hundred examples of David Coulson's color photography, spectacularly and informatively showcases Africa's rock art with examples drawn from the entire continent. The text provides the reader with an authoritative and "reader friendly" historical and interpretative analysis. Alec Campbell draws upon his many years of experience as the founder and former director of the "National Museum of Botswana", and is a resident of the area. David Coulson is founder and chairman of the "Trust for African Rock Art" and combines his special expertise with skills as a photography to provide a visual record of outstanding works, many of which are now endangered by erosion, theft, and vandalism. African Rock Art is an impressive and much appreciated addition to personal, academic and community library African art history and cultural studies collections.

(not to be confused with becoming a successful artist)
With other great works like Graffiti Kitchen and Alec: the King Canute Crowd, Eddie Campbell's autobiographical works are very refreshing and very unique to the comic book genre. Those that are not familiar with Eddie's works may not like his sketchy drawings but after familiarizing one's self to his works you'll see that his art is a very personal signature and works very well in his books.
In Alec: How to be an Artist, Eddie tells his story of his experiences as a comic book artist. He goes from how he first got into the business to meeting such characters as Alan Moore and also goes into how his personal life was effected: "There will come a phase in your life when you move in and out of flats so fast you're already measuring them up for a nostalgic effect on your way in." This graphic novel gives such an interesting glance at the comic book industry, and Eddie likes to "tell-all" with very personal aspects of his life that you feel very humble to be given the privilege of reading his story.(or maybe I'm just an Eddie-Campbell/ComicBook-Industry fanatic.)

An Inspiration
It's extremely gratifying to see Eddie Campbell's Alec collected again and available on Amazon. I remember reading these comics back in the mid-80's. Self-published by photocopier, often with hand-coloured covers, they redefined for me what comics were about, and what they could be about. These intimate, real-life, semi-auto-biographical stories of an British guy, his mates, his girlfriends and his life were a revelation and have inspired a generation of comics writers and artists. If you have any interest in serious comics, then you should buy this book.

Classical and...classy
This reprint of the 1995 edition can be very useful to those who study charting and technical analysis - or just dig in to it. Especially for the British market, you can see it even as a book of the LSE history.

A Fresh Perspective...
I saw a lady reading "Breakfast on Earth" on the NYC subway a few weeks ago and was intrigued. My favorite thing about the poems included is the way the author can take a seemingly ordinary event, and capture with a few select words an elusive emotion that would rarely be verbally communicated, but which speaks to us all. There is plenty of subtle humor, as well as a glimpse into the loneliness one can feel, even when SURROUNDED by others. A delightful read.

Fascinating tour of English cathedrals
Alec Clifton-Taylor discusses the history of English cathedrals from Norman times to the present day. Those unfamiliar with architectural terminology are advised to keep the glossary marked, as you'll be turning to it a lot. But Clifton-Taylor is enthusiastic about cathedrals and communicates his enthusiasm, so he is an outstanding tour guide. And the photography is spectacular. Highly recommended.

This is an excellent book on wheat weaving (corn dollies). Great designs for the beginning and advanced weaver. Two fine artists sharing their joy and dedication in reviving the art of straw work. Intricate designs enhanced by the beauty of the golden straw. This publication is a must for any dedicated straw weaver.

This is a superb book, packed with information.
This book is an excellent resource for timberframe builders, designers, or enthousiasts. It is very technical though, and many of the terms are un-definined in the glossary. The illustrations are superb. It has multiple indexes on specific joints. One index, for example, has an illustrated list of every single scarf joint immaginable, with a description of the joint's history and how well it functions. I love this book. Every architect and timberframer should own this book! It is very inspiring.
