Try another book!
This book misses the point. The author is ignorant of most of the themes of american religious history that puts robertson in his proper context. There are many problems with Robertson, but a book like this will not illuminate them. The worst thing about the book is that much of it could have been have written by anyone. For example, one chapter is about the CBN web page and what is on it. Another chapter is the authors retelling of a speech that Robertson gave at the republican national convention. Any reader could just read the actual script and get more out of it. In short, for anyone looking for a book on Robertson try David Harell's book on Robertson, it is the most balanced. This book is not really helpful, it is style over substance.

Good. But not the best. read on...
If you really want to find out about the real Pat Robertson read "The Most Dangerous Man In The World" by Rob Boston. It gives you a real sense of this media nut and his wacko ideas. Viewers beware.....Robertson is a fraud!

Close, but way off...
There are holes at the north and south poles. Just because everyone is saying they're a 100 miles across, you'll probably never believe it, but there is one right on the location of bentley's subglacial trench in Antarctica. Believe it or not, there are much stranger things. In this book, there is one supposed photo taken by apollo showing an opening, but it is really a photo of Olympus mons of mars. It might be a mistake on his part (and not intentional) but either way, it makes the idea of a hole look dumb. I even think Olympus mons might be a hole and not a volcano. The mist blocks the entrance. Another thing is, this guy talks about Cyrus Teed and his inverted planet theory. (that we live inside and the earth is concave) He goes out of his way to make Teed look crazy. At the time I read this book, I was only beginning to research this stuff. Thank the Lord that I even heard the truth before I died. The planet is concave. Teed was right and the whole world laughed him to scorn in 1905. Not only is Teed right, but also the north and south poles are gateways to another planet. That is all you need to know. Do not buy this book, it is the same lies that are on the net.

this book is *very* good!
I saw this book sitting on the shelf of the new age section at a bookstore and was immediately drawn to it. I'd never heard of such a theory but the description of the book seemed interesting.

I must say that after reading it from cover to cover in just one day, I am a believer that the earth really may be hollow and there is actually alot of evidence to sustain this.

Things such as writings from the earliest civilations, the aurora borealis, UFOs, giants, fairies, holes at the poles, and all kinds phenomenon, are covered in this book - not to mention, the idea that the earth's interior is solid is only a theory and has never actually been proven.

Highley reccommend!

2nd part of a trilogy, and does not stand alone
Wonderful prose, beautifully observed character study, as WG slips into the skin of an extremely priggish and snobbish early twenties aristocrat as he comes of age and begins to understand a little more of the virtues of the ordinary people around him. Sea journeys of that era were long, tedious, largely uneventful and extremely uncomfortable. All 3 books in the trilogy carry this perfectly: the maritime atmosphere is conveyed as perfectly as the arrogant character of the narrator. However, the tedium of the journey also comes across in the virtually non-existent plot which makes the books drag on somewhat. It is probably, though, as brilliant description of the English class system at the start of the 19th century as you will read. I believe that the books in Trilogies should be able to stand alone, if they are to be sold separately, & on that basis, this trilogy definitely fails. I'm glad I read it as a single 750 page tome.

Who was the best team-check fact on Toronto Marlies
Winning the Memorial cup is probabally he most difficult trophy to win. You must win the playoffs of your own league and then
qualify for an eentual sudden death game to win the cup. If in the last game you meet a hot goaler you have no second chance.
This book takes us back to 1919 and proceeds in great detail
all the major events and games leading up to and including the championship games. It lists the rosters of all winners which
is great for a lot of the winners who for different reasons did not go on to play pro hockey or were never again part of a winning team. It should provoke discussions about who the greatest junior team of all time was or for some deciding the best in different eras. My personal choice is the 1969 Montreal
junior Canadiens led by Gilbert Perreault,Marc Tardif, Richard Martin and Andre Dupont followed closely by the 1964 Torontoi Marlboros led by Mike Walton , Wayne Carleton, Peter Stemkowski
Gary Dineen, Ron Ellis. The Marlboros DID lose one game in the eastern finals . In the book on page 129 the authors state that
the marlies swept N.D.G.and went undefeated throughout the Memorial Cup playoffs. In fact the N.D.G. team coached by the legendary Sotty Bowman beat the Marlies 6-4 at the Montreal
Forum in what probabally was one of the biggest upsets as well as being one of the greateest coaching jobs by Bowman which has
gone nearly undocumented. I'd love to hear from him on the subject.

Hudson's battle scenes inspired early Star Trek - Roddenbery
Alec Hudson was read avidly by children caught up in the excitement of World War II; what may not be widely known is that the battle scenes in Up Periscope! and Battle Stations directly inspired Star Trek creator Gene Roddenbery's early battle scenes, including Scottie (can't give you any more Captain!) and the similarities between Captain Jaimeson and Kirk are unmistakeable. Check it out!

Re 'Mislead' review
I am most grateful to your reviewer from Plano, TX, USA for pointing out that the book is not by THE Raymond E. Brown. As a great fan of the Scholar I would have been tempted to buy the book, but not now. Thanks 'Plano TX'. Bill Fawkes, North Yorkshire England.

Content, not author, is the point
Other reviewers of this book have restricted their comments to the fact that the author is not Fr. Raymond Brown, SS, of blessed memory, one of the premier biblical scholars of the 20th century. These reviewers dismiss this book out-of-hand simply and simplistically on the ground of "misleading" authorship. This is not helpful. This "other" Raymond Brown has important things to say, too, in a way very different from Fr. Brown. I urge that folks carefully examine the pages available and make their own decision based on what this book wants to say, not who wrote it. In that regard, it should be noted that this is a theological and practical exposition of the themes of the Letter to the Hebrews, written from of conservative-evangelical, Baptist confessional perspective. It is written for the non-academic, non-specialist, Christian reader. It is a combination of anecdotal reflection and scholarly insight. It is concerned with the canonical text of Hebrews, and places it in a late first-century, Jewish-Christian church setting in a time of persecution and consequent temptation to apostasy. These are the sort of observations and questions by which this book should be judged, not the pedigree of its author.

excellent commentary
This commentary series is geared toward a theological perspective and not a technical one. It is very much like the interpretation series but written from a much more conservative point of view. The other reviewers are correct; this book is not written by the liberal false teacher Raymond Brown who hated Christ and his Gospel. Unlike the other Raymond Brown, this writer was not a papist who attacks the accuracy of the bible. The other brown was a false teacher and is now dead. No loss to the Christian Church. Good riddence you false teacher.

Why? WHY?
They should have known better. I figure if three authors want to write a book in turns while getting pissed and trying to screw each other by writing the next into a corner, sure. They're big boys, right? Just don't go around and RELEASE the damn thing. Oy. This is bad. Painfully bad. If I'd paid for it instead of being given it by a friend, I would have probably been angry instead of just dissapointed.

A writing duel
Three science fiction masters each take turns trying to write the other two into a hole. An epic space opera revolving around a bewildered human, several various and assorted aliens, and a buxom space cowgirl named Marshmallow are pawns, riding the edge of one cliffhanger after another as Chalker, Resnick and Effinger move them about an absurd verbal chessboard.

A truly unique concept in novelization, and completely unconcerned with conventional storytelling, this is one of the funniest (and strangest) books to be written by an American in recent memory.

Terrific Light-hearted SF
This book is a terrific collaborative work. Effinger, Chalker, Resnick take turns writing chapters, each more imaginatively absurd than the last. Hilarious!

RETURN
I took it right back to where I bought it.
I'm glad I saved the receipt.

UNQUALIFIED
I am bothered by these authors who validate their claims - having no formal authority on the subject. This is exactly what I found in this book. I don't understand how monomaniacs are equivalent to credentials of a PHD or doctorate. There is no substance in validating some of these claims. This is a very one-sided POV. I suspect the authors came across as being unnecessarily accusatory and defensive. They wrote this book out of emotion instead of taking a more professional approach to their claims.

Separating the sheep from the goats
Tulkoff's book is an excellent field guide to Holocaust artifacts. This concise, information-packed work is lavishly illustrated with photographs of artifacts from the author's personal collection as well as museum pieces. Tulkoff's book provides a fascinating, thorough look at the cultural artifacts of one of the darkest periods of human history; it will be invaluable to collectors, scholars, and historians alike.

Snipits of information with cumbersome organization
Baedeker gives the prospective traveler snipits of facts, history and details from Aberdeen to the Yorkshire Dales. The information is superficial and may lack sufficient depth to be substantively helpful to the uninitiated traveler. The information is organized by cities, alphabetically which proves quiet cumbersome as the reader bounces through the pages. If you want to plan a trip to Scotland you will be leafing through all the cited cities in Great Britain, Wales, and Northern Ireland to boot. There is very little information that would help the traveler plan a trip budget. For the novice traveler, the Michelin Travel Series may be more helpful. For the experienced traveler, the lack of depth in Baedeker will be unsatisfactory.

Writing Pynchon: Strategies in Fictional Analysis
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Illinois Pr (Txt) (1990)
Authors: Alec W. McHoul and David Wills
Amazon base price: $29.95
Average review score:

Deconstruct me one more time (yawn)
A depressingly predictable exercise in applying sub-sub-sub-Derridean critical methods to the novels of Thomas Pynchon. Pynchon, like the rocket that describes the arc of his most famous novel, deconstructs himself so explosively that it's hardly necessary for others to do it for him. The best writing about Pynchon has generally been starkly elucidatory in nature - these boys take Pynchon's already dizzyingly intricate web and dissolve it to a stupefying fog. No wonder it's out of print. Kind of fun, anyway, for the sheer shooting-oneself-in-the-foot futility of it all.
