Power Electronics applications in Transmission
Flexible ac transmission system is a new concept which explains the use of various power electronic devices to control the flow of power over transmission lines. Yong H Song and Allan T Johns have done a very good job of selction of topics and editing them. The book is very well organized and moves from one topic to other in a systematic way. Although different chapters are written by different people the reader does not feel any disccontinuity .Chapter 8 ,9 , 10 and 11 explain the advantages of FACT devices in improving the performance of power system . However the practical applications and actual implementation and their problems are not discuused in detail.

Great book on Forgiveness
How many times should we forgive? This book explains to you the power and freedom you get when you forgive others. That without forgiveness we lose the wonder of intimacy with God. Also that it is hard to love others when bitterness is deeply rooted in your heart.

A Grad students perspective
In this book, Downing uses examples of nations in the world to explain the ways that media communication has dealt with issues of politics in these nations at troubling times in history. By exposing media action taken during such events, Downing has offered an explanation of why we react to the world as it currently is today. Downing studies society in these countries and examines the media's focus on certain aspects of culture and the lack of focus on other issues that would be seen as important to any functioning nation. An example that Downing himself raises in the conclusion of his book states that economic policy seems to brush to the wayside and is not properly explained when dealing with media theory issues. It is easy to offer up simple explanations, but because of these simple conclusions, we are left without an accurate portrayal of how this effects the issues at hand and essentially left with only half of the picture. Using conceptual ideas in the abstract in place of concrete examples could be very difficult to follow. The book is easy to follow and Downing makes his concepts easy to grasp by giving several examples that are imbedded in world history. However, because his examples pertained directly with world history, a significant amount of the book focused on just that. This leaves the student trudging through what feels like a world history book and searching for the meaning of all of the information. Downing assumes that all parts of the media and information derive from issues that happen in the world. All types of media and communication theory will be subject to change as cultures change and redefine themselves. These cultural changes have no boundaries. As one theory emerges due to issues in one country, so will the theory cross lines in other countries to handle issues emerging there.

A good assessment of the charismatic movement
All three authors have been through spiritual journeys of appreciating the charismatic movement. In this book they present their reflections on the movement. A good and balanced book.

In my opinion, Tom Smail's 1st chapter on "The Cross and the Spirit: Toward a Theology of Renewal" is one of the best articles/messages I've read/listened to as it relates to the pros and cons of charismatic theology. It's worth the price of the book!

Other topics touched on include signs and wonders, demonology, worship, prophecy.

Overall a good book for those interested in the charismatic movement

Making Traditional Wooden Planes
Published in Paperback by Astragal Press (01 May, 1996)
Author: John M. Whelan

If you want to make planes, buy this book
I've just finished reading through this book, but haven't tried making a plane yet. But from comparing this book with others I've read and other sources, it's quite good.

This seems to be the only book that really tries to cover construction of wood bodied planes in the manner of originals. Most of the items discussed are based on antiques which are used as prototypes.

Each chapter covers the construction of a specific plane. Simple models are used in the beginning to cover general tips and techniques. The projects range from simple smoothers to plow planes.

Projects are covered by a discussion of the steps involved and hints about key things to watch for. These tips on potential problems and critical steps seem some of the most useful aspects of the book. The references and supply sources sections are also great.

After reading, I'm inspired and will be starting on my first plane soon.

First rate.
It's too bad this book is out of print, because I don't know of any other book like it. It's not only a good introductory history of World War II in Europe, but an invaluable battlefield guide. If you're going to take a tour of WWII battlefields in western Europe, buy this book. The driving directions are superb. However, the maps are somewhat sparse and some of the route numbers have changed since the book was published, so you'll need to buy a good road atlas. I gave the book four stars because of the maps and it just covers Britain and Western Europe, but not Italy.

Good introduction to digital telephony hierarchy and ISDN
While a bit dated in it's coverage of ISDN deployment in the US, this book covers the bit level formatting of T carrier and E carrier frames in exhaustive detail. Required reading for newcomers to the telco provisioning process, and very useful for ISPs seeking a solid understanding of how telco provisioning and carrier channelization works. An excellent desktop and teaching reference work.
