Understanding the Gospel of John
When I read John Alive! I felt a oneness with the characters portrayed in each chapter. I became one with the characters as they expressed their thoughts and feelings. I could relate my own personal experiences and feelings with those developed in each story line. I especially liked the questions written throughout each chapter. I took the time to reflect on my own personal life as it related to the scripture readings and kept a personal journal of my answers. The reflective thoughts written at the end of each chapter are very similar to the questions and feelings that I have experienced in my own life. This book is for those who want a better understanding of the events and biblical messages of the Apostle John's Gospel. I highly recommend it for those who struggle with reading the Bible, as I have.

Joyce, Milton, and the Theory of Influence (Florida James Joyce Series)
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Florida (1995)
Authors: Patrick Colm Hogan and Bernard Benstock
Amazon base price: $59.95

Of some interest perhaps
This is certainly not one of the more insightful books on the subject, and is unfortunately attuned only to those topics of influence that have been better covered elsewhere. For the beginner, esp. those who do not have access to the better studies, this book is not without value. Somewhat recommended.

Glorious Genus of Lilies
I really don't see why this book should be out of print ! It's an a-z of one of the most interesting plant families there is. Along with the historical and botanical description of the lilies and related families come beautiful colour prints of the plants mentioned. These were instrumental in hooking me onto the worship of these beautiful plants. To this day, I dream of going to Japan to find a wild specimen of L. brownii..all because of this book! So start up the printing machines, please!

a wonderful guide
I found this book to be really fascinating. Living as I do next door to the U.S., and having some familiarity with American politics and government, I found this book filled so many gaps in my knowledge so succinctly that I would think many Americans could profitably refer to this over and over again. The ridiculous election of 2000 filled many of we foreigners with confusion of how the self-appointed 'World's Greatest Democracy' could have such a baffling 'system' of electing the president and vice-president, and this book helped me so much understanding the complexities of what was going on. I commend the authors heartily for conceiving of such a book and filling it with so much information...the Supreme Court cases are marvels of conciseness. I hope that if you're interested in American Government, be you student, teacher or just an interested citizen, you buy this book. It's a steal at the price.

Great Reference Source
As a teacher who prepares high school seniors for the AP Government and Politics exam, I found this to be a quick, concise, yet comprehensive guide to the major/minor aspects of the US Government. Makes a great stepping stone to further research by virtue of the end notes that accompany each entry. As usual, OUP does it again.

Outstanding introductory text useful even to practitioners
Highly recommended even for seasoned IP litigators; although this is a casebook, it has very thoughtful notes reminiscent of Hart & Wechsler's Fed. Courts casebook.

A nice juvenile biography of Colonial orator Patrick Henry
"A Picture Book of Patrick Henry" introduces young readers to the most famous orator of the American Revolution. Author David A. Adler tells the story of both Henry's life and his political career, which saw him elected as the first governor of Virginia. This juvenile biography also deals in a straight-forward manner with some of the unhappy events in Henry's life, such as the mental illness of his first wife and his arguments against adopting the Constitution. Consequently, readers will get a pretty good understanding of why Henry was an important figure in the American Revolution. Artists John and Alexandra Wallner provide attractive line-and-watercolor illustrations. The book includes an interesting Author's Note, in which Adler takes issue with biographer William Wirt's description of Henry and deals with Henry's ownership of slaves (Wirt was actually the one who "wrote" Henry's famous speech as part of his biography). Adler's Picture Book Biographies looks at over two dozen famous people including Simon Bolivar, Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Sitting Bull. This series looks like it is worth checking out.

Excellent Book for World Intercessors
This book will deepen any Christian intercessor's prayer life. The book proceeds through regions of the world and gives information on the unreachd people groups that live in these regions. The pictures will help you feel compassion for these peoples. I have used this book for a year now and I find that it has made my prayer life much more focussed on the nations. The prayer requests are specific to each group of people and make praying more accurate. If you desire to glorify God through prayer, this is the book for you!

A well thought out brief intro to business ethics.
This is a thoughtful, brief introduction to business ethics with a strong Catholic viewpoint(Primeaux is a Marist priest and Ph.D in Theology)balanced by Professor Stiebers rather tough minded view of the mandate of business (to stay in business, make money and produce something of worth). Real ife applications and nary a patronizing word
