Twelve Snails to One Lizard
This is a delightful book about the problems a beaver has measuring a log to repair the dam on his pond. His friend, Bubba Bullfrog, offers him many non-standard measurements that would be appropriate to use. All prove to be a pain for Milo, in more ways than one!Bubba realizes he has a yardstick at home to prove he's correct. What a great way to help children learn about equivalent measure! I recommend it highly.

Will reduce the confusion and anxiety of not knowing
Wisconsin Father's Guide To Divorce And Custody was written by experienced men's rights advocates specifically for Wisconsin men having to consider or deal with a divorce and its emotional, financial, social, parental, and familial aftermath. Specific, practical, effective advice covers the entire gamut of pertinent issues including choosing a lawyer, Wisconsin divorce laws, developing a winning strategy, fighting judicial gender bias, why "temporary hearings" aren't really temporary at all, preparing for mediation, containing legal costs, continuing to be an active father during and after divorce, and much more. Wisconsin Father's Guide To Divorce And Custody is a user friendly, highly recommended "how to" manual that will significantly reduce the financial costs of legal fees, reduce the confusion and anxiety of not knowing what is going on or why, and enhancing the chances of a divorce settlement that is fair, unbiased, and as satisfactory as circumstances can permit under Wisconsin's legal system.

The World's Wisdom
Novak does a fine job selecting many absolute jewels from the texts of the world's major religions. His chapter introductions and brief explanations of certain passages will suffice to keep the beginner student of world religions focused upon the intended meaning of these texts. Each chapter glances different textual moments in the history of a particular religious group. There are "Grace Notes" sections at the end of each chapter which include some splendid writings from mystics/commentators within their respective traditions. One word of warning: there are some alterations made to some passages in order to include women in the many spiritual traditions which have sadly neglected to recognize women's spirituality. To Novak's credit, he does annotate each occassional alteration. In spite of this one possible nuisance for some few readers, this book is sure to inspire, and could well serve as a map for further, more thorough study of world religions. (Note: though Novak's book stands alone, it is designed--chapter by chapter--after Huston Smith's classic _The Religions of Man_, which examines the world's major religious traditions with far fewer references to their texts. Novak's selections make for a much more authentic and interesting introduction to the religions of the world.)

A fast paced read....
Gabrielle Hadley is making the only living that is possible in the small town of Florence, Arizona. With prison inmates accounting for most of the population in the small town, Gabrielle knows that her only job prospect is a corrections officer in one of the many prisons. On her third day on the job, a fight breaks out between inmates and Gabrielle is horrified when three inmates gang up on one, and the other officers' just stand by. Jumping in the fray changes the course of Gabrielle life, but she didn't realize how much until days later when the convict she saved from death, escapes.

Randall Tucker has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife. Tucker doesn't care about himself, but he does care about his now eight year old son, Landon. When Gabrille insinuates herself into his small exsistance, Tucker can't help but be resentful, for she represents all that he will never have again. When he is transfered and finds the oppurtunity to escape, he doesn't hesitate because he made a promise to his son that he intends to keep.

Together, Tucker and Gabrielle brave the harsh Arizona desert and go on a mission to find the truth about the night Tucker's wife was murderer. With Gabby's one year old daughter, Allie, and Landon, they both realize how much they have to lose.

This was my first book by this author, and I was very impressed!

You've not read many books like this one!
Few women are prison guards in a male prison, but that is the best career choice open to Gabrielle Hadley when she moves to Florence, Arizona in search of her birth mother. Daily she faces grueling work, where she is harrassed and scorned by both inmates and coworkers. Amidst the ugliness, she finds herself drawn to one of the prisoners, one who stands out as unusual, Randall Tucker, convicted wife killer.

Tucker is serving time for a crime of which he is innocent, so when he has the chance to escape during a transfer, he does. Gabrielle goes after him, out of a mixture of concern and a feeling of responsibility. Yet, when she finds him, they become reluctant allies, drawn together by the necessity of survival, and the heat between them that is hotter than the surrounding desert. Even when Tucker ties her up and abandons her, Gabrielle still believes in him, and is willing to risk everything to save him so his quest to prove his innocence and be reunited with his child will go forward.

***** A vivid painting of an ugly world provides an intense backdrop for this compelling story. Few women would have the grit to handle what Gabrielle faces. Tucker is the kind of man we all yearn for; tough, yet still loving. Both do what they must without flinching. Despite the harshness portrayed in the prison and in the wild, there are heartwarming moments of family that lighten the mood. You have not read many books like this one. *****

A great guide, but minor errors & arrangement may confuse
Disclaimer: my support appears in the 2nd ed.'s inside cover and on
p. 210. This book should be in every intrusion detector's library!
New co-authors Judy Novak and Donald McLachlan add to Stephen
Northcutt's original wisdom, with insight on filters and advanced
analysis of ICMP. The RPC chapter is characteristically informative,
while the inclusion of useful yet aging "front-line" stories
keeps the reading lively.

Still, I expected more. As a new analyst
who read the 1st ed. in mid-1999, I published a rebuttal of Stephen's
theories. Now, slightly more experienced, I recognize other areas
need similar scrutiny. For example, chapters 7 and 13 imply
"login ports associated with trusted relationships" make
good SYN flood targets, when really forged connections to those ports
are the problem. This is and other subtle technical points need
clarification. A 2nd example: ch. 7 says "The signature of TCP
hijacking is that the IP addresses change during a TCP session, while
the sequence numbers remain correct." This doesn't match my
experience with session hijacking.

The book's arrangement could be
improved; I prefer the clear taxonomy of Hacking Exposed. Basics
should also be separated from advanced material to satisfy newbies and
gurus. I encourage New Riders to publish an errata page on the Web
(with room for reader input), as minor errors could be quickly erased
by a second printing. This book is still the best available, but I
hope for more from the 3rd ed. and other ambitious authors!

Excellent breadth and depth of material on IDS
The next incarnation of the excellent network intrusion detection manual from SANS's Stephen Northcutt and Judy Novak is here. The book boasts an impressive amalgam of high-level issues (risk assessment, business case building, architecture design, etc.) with all the fun low-level details, all the way down to IP headers, tcpdump bit masks and writing snort rules.

A super detailed chapter on TCP/IP protocol suite is a great read for experts (as a refresher) and beginners (might require some studying time for full comprehension, but it will come). Issues such as fragmentation, packet header formats, OS fingerprinting all get a fair share of coverage.

The stimulus-response metaphor, advocated by SANS, is fully represented in the book. Upon seeing the network packet, the analyst might want to identify it as being part of stimulus (such as incoming port scan), response (such as an ICMP echo reply) or third-party effect (back scatter from a DoS attack with your IP addresses used for spoofing).

Two full chapters are devoted to writing snort IDS rules. The material is presented in an easy to learn manner, just as the rest of the book.

Incident and intrusion response with a severity evaluation based on the SANS formula is described with some useful examples. Determining a severity of an attack is also part of the GCIA practical assignment.

On the high-level side, some requirements for IDS sensors and consoles are defined in the book. In addition, many insights on selling IDS and security to management (a.k.a. "management fluffing") are described in the chapter "Business Case for Intrusion Detection." The chapter also contain tips for designing and building the IDS infrastructure, complete with project planning suggestions.

The book is the closest to what one might call "a GCIA certification prep guide," if there was a possibility of creating a prep guide for such a rich and in-depth technical cert. Apparently, some of the content (such as using tcpdump for intrusion detection) is identical to that of the GCIA course book (retailing for a several times higher price). However, the book shows a more complete picture than the coursebook, albeit with somewhat less detail. However, many detailed traffic analysis examples for scans, attacks and intelligence
gathering attempts are provided in the Appendices to the book.

Of particular interest for me was a chapter on the future direction of intrusion detection. New threats, analyst skill sets and tools and even novel approaches to intrusion data analysis are outlined there.

Anton Chuvakin, Ph.D., GCIA is a Senior Security Analyst with a major information security company. In his spare time he maintains his security portal info-secure.org

Must read for stepping into Network Intrusion Detection!!
This is my first book on Intrusion Detection field. To step in the field of network intrusion detection, knowing how to read packet trace is unavoidable. This book presents packet trace using the basic and popular sniffer, tcpdump. The author gives various traces and explains what kinds of attacks are indicated from the traces. This is very practical and should give an insight to reader on what an IDS analyst's job like.

I can read this book very smoothly showing that the author should have much experience in presenting this subject.

I'll classify this book as a must-read and is looking forward to read the next one - Intrusion Signatures & Analysis

A Realms novel that really is(though it has a poor ending)
Finder's Bane is commendable to fans of the Forgotten Realms primarily because it incorporates so many aspects of the gameworld into its plot and elaborates on them, instead of making something up that doesn't fit well into the world. There is copious reference to the gods of the world in the book; indeed, one of the primary characters is a god. The book's characters are interesting, especially the priestess of Bane and her attitudes toward less malevolent religions. The ending, however, is frustrating and inconclusive. I got the impression that the characters would have become more interesting if they had to deal with the ignomony of releasing Bane back into the world. Sometimes the bad guys should win. In any case, Forgotten Realms fans will enjoy and appreciate this book. If you like Bane, though, get ready for a letdown.

Great book!
Man, this is a great addition to the forgotten realms series! I never got into the whole Finders Stone Trilogy so I didnt know what to expect from this book. I was really, really surprised to find that even if you never read any of the other books in the series you will enjoy this one from the beginnning to the end. The characters in the book are interesting and the inclusion of the gods really helped out. The only down side is that if you were looking forward to the bad guys to win you will be dissapointed. I recommend to all Forgotten Realms fans.

A welcome return to form
Just as good as the original Alias novels; colourful, well-written, and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

If Only The Vision Would Materialize
Robert Novak's fine book, "Completing the Revolution," is divided into three sections. The first part is titled "Republicans in Retreat." It documents the curious - and sometimes amusing - history of the Republican Congress. Mr. Novak asserts that "the revolutionary spirit of 1994," when the GOP seized control of Congress for the first time in 40 years, "is but a faint memory." Instead, the Republican Congress - like the Democratic Congress before it- has become the "incumbent party." To use Mr. Novak's analogy, instead of closing down the executive washroom, the GOP leaders - enjoying the privileges of power for the first time - have merely "changed the locks." In 1998, the Republican Congress resisted public opinion and impeached a president for the first time in 130 years. Since losing that ridiculous battle, it is the Congressional Democrats - not the Republicans - who have shaped a very limited legislative agenda. Mr. Novak makes no attempt to hide his disappointment with this outcome. The second part of the book, "Ten Things Republicans Can Do To Win in 2000" includes such solid suggestions as cutting taxes and embracing free trade. The author also makes an excellent case for welcoming religious conservatives into the party as a "force for good." Mr. Novak is also a lonely conservative voice on behalf of campaign finance reform. By defending the corrupt status quo, the Republican Party does itself an immense disservice. The final section of the book, "Toward Victory" offers a preview of the 2000 presidential election and a fine case on behalf of George W. Bush. The book, overall, is slim and can be shallow at times. But it is a nice review of what conservatives can - and should - stand for.

A Fantastic Book that Never got the Attention it Deserved
I just finished reading Mr. Novaks book and I must say it is a superb book. It is a book that every person who is in the Republican Party should, NO, must read. The book also helped vindicate many of my feelings that I had after I switched parties several years ago. First of all Mr. Novak tells us that the Republican Party is great (or was great; maybe I'm more pessimistic than he is) because it stands for principals. This is in contrast to the liberal parties whose only principal that they seem to have is that they have NO PRINCIPALS. Since the left has no standards it is truly a malleable plaint propaganda front used to inculcate the masses to a life of extreme bondage under the guise of egalitarian socialism.

Back to the book review, Mr. Novak puts forth the conjecture that when the right buys the distortion of the left that the only way it will win elections is to become more centrist in nature, they are in effect destroying the core of the philosophical ideals of the right. Remember, the left over the years has slid farther and farther into the deadly grips of socialism until ideas that were consider middle of the road 20 years ago are now re-characterized as extreme right wing today. The democrats continually try to paint the conservatives as radicals when in reality it is the democrats that have slid into an ultra liberal position and it is they who have become the radicals. What is amazing is that the Republicans have bought into the lie and feel that they must become more middle of the road. So in essence we no longer have two distinct political parties anymore, instead we have Socialist Party A and Socialist Party B. Or in other terms the Republicrats and the Demicans. It is because of this shift to the left that myself and quite a few others that I know have changed party affiliation.

Mr. Novak is aware of this problem and has put forward ten ideas that if the Republican Party embraced they would begin to win elections again. Not only would they win elections they would see a renewal of zeal similar to the Reagan revolution. The ten postulates are as follows:

1Use the budget surplus to cut taxes for everyone.
This is probably the biggest no brainer on the list. Lower taxes mean less government (socialistic) programs for the masses. Less government means less intrusion and fewer bureaucrats, fewer bureaucrats mean more productivity and wealth for everyone.

2Endorse a national sales tax to replace the internal revenue code.
In fact I disagree with the national sales tax, but the point is to scrap the IRS code as it is now and replace it with something incredibly simpler. Again, less chance for the government to get you money means less chance that the government will have control over you.

3Establish true personal accounts for Social Security.
Social security is here to stay, so why not let it work for you rather than against you. Let's all retire wealthier and with less government intrusion into how I handle MY money.

4Stop reflexively opposing campaign finance reform.
Both parties have become prostitutes of the moneyed interest that has gotten them elected. If we would come up with a sweeping reform and couple it with idea number 10 it would be a boon for both parties.

5 Embrace Global Free Markets.
Although I believe in free markets theory it only works if both participants allow equal access to their respective markets. This is great in theory but in real life it does not always work.

6 Welcome the religious conservatives as force for good.
The religious right - the liberals have done such a fantastic job at brainwashing the masses into believing that the moral majority and their ilk would turn this county into a totalitarian theocratic form of government. Interesting though, the religious right has no such plans. If you still feel queasy about this notion I highly suggest you read a book by Don Feder, yes he's Jewish, entitled Who's Afraid of the Religious Right?

7 Stand firm in support of the right to life.
This is probably the bedrock principal of the Conservative movement. The Conservative Party has always been the party to look out for the most unfortunate and most in need of the society. While socialists will either discard or destroy human beings that don't fit their agenda it has been the conservatives of the world who have ended slavery and put racism behind us. It has always been the noble pursuit of caring for the handicapped through philanthropy and strong families that has shown the main difference between the left and the right. How can anybody with half a brain that is firing its synapses claim they are a pro-choice conservative. People a choice is between Coke or Pepsi, when you can summarily destroy a human being because it might be inconvenient after YOU MADE ALL THE CHOICES to procreate in the first place. By not standing up for human beings who in their weakest most dependent stage of life shows such utter contempt for our race and for the conservative cause that these individuals should join their true party. The party of Hitler, Lenin and Stalin.

8 Reach out to Women and Minorities without compromising the message.
Lets give credit where credit is due, the leftist have always won the propaganda war. The reason the right has morals and believes in the principal of the truth. With that said it sure wouldn't hurt to go after some good PR work and include the people who have been most helped by the philosophies of the right.

And the last two ideas are

9. Endorse a foreign policy based on strength and engagement, but for the right reasons.

10 Don't be afraid of term limits.

I'm out of space enjoy the book.

Great Book
This is probably the best book out there on politics. Robert D. Novak articulates his point of view greatly. There were several times in the book where I could not put it down. I must comment on the person who reviewed this book before me and say that Robert Novak NEVER changed to a Democrat. In fact, in my opinion, since his conversion to the Catholic Church, he is much more Republican.

Great book to have, a must read for anybody interested in why Repulicans do what they do.

Of Noble Birth... I couldn't put it down!
Although romance novels are not usually the type of book I read, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. From the moment I picked it up I felt compelled to keep reading. It grasped my attention from the first page. It had great and varied story lines with interesting and exciting characters and the story just flowed. One of the best features I felt was the uniqueness of the writers ability to provide sensuality without providing graphic details. It provides the reader a very sensual experience without bombarding your senses. I would recommend this book highly to anyone and I look forward to reading her next novel. Brenda Novak is a very talented writer!

Pirates and Mistaken Identities!
Need I say more? What a truly wonderful, sit-on-the-couch-all-day-with-a-cup-of-tea read! An outcast son becomes a pirate, choosing to plunder his father's ships. Mistaking a simple seamstress for his half-sister, he kidnaps her in hopes of exchanging her for one of his own captured men. The romantic tension between Nathaniel and Alexandra practically leaps off the page as both try to reject each other's charms. Of course, it's futile! A stirring romance, with compelling characters and tremendous intrigue. I simply couldn't put this one down! An amazing debut from Brenda Novak! I can't wait for the next one!

A BRILLIANT DEBUT --- THIS ONE IS A KEEPER!
Brenda Novak's stunning debut novel, OF NOBLE BIRTH, is a fast-paced historical romance, a High Seas adventure with walk-off-the-page characters so vital they'll steal your heart from the first page! This is one I could not put down. Ms. Novak pulls out all the stoppers, proving herself to be a most skilled wordsmith with her vivid portrayal of characters, time and place. Darkly handsome but marred Nathaniel Kent comes boldly alive, making our hearts race as we follow him along the path to attaining his life-mission: exacting revenge on his noble but utterly cold father. Seamstress Alexandra Cogsworth is his ideal match, and as with Nathaniel, Ms. Novak has created an endearing character, one you'll root for from the moment she walks onto the page. This is one novel without any flaws, everything works just right, casting a magical spell as you read. Ms. Novak sweeps you so thoroughly into her character's lives and world, you'll imagine yourself right there with them. I could almost breathe in the tangy salt air, picture myself aboard Nathaniel's ship, even half-expected to see his shipmates standing in the shadows as I read -- so real are these story-people. Yes, this one has it all: superb characterization, excellent motivation, worthy goals for her hero and heroine, and a fast-paced and gripping plot. OF NOBLE BIRTH offers a vivid story-world to escape to, a romance that will make you believe in love again, and an ending in which everything comes together so beautifully you'll close the book with a great sigh of satisfaction. Don't miss this one --- it'll be sure to win a place of honor in your heart and on your keeper shelf.

Old News - The internet hype is nauseating
This book was obviously written at the peak of the internet "Boom". The majority of the companies cited as examples of the onslaught of the new economy are no longer in existence. Earnings are barely mentioned. Companies cited as the movers and shakers of tomorrow are now penny stocks. The total lack of balance relative to other sectors is appalling and in retrospect is by itself educational. Everyone bought into the hype including the entire VC industry. This might explain why they all sat on the sideline in 2001 trying to regain their sense of direction. The entertainment value is a 5 and the educational value a 1. It is your choice.

Must Read for Every Entrepreneur & VC
This book is a must read for every entrepreneur and VC. The snippets of information in it are very valuable even after the downfall of the Internet economy-most of the text is more focused on timeless vc/entrepreneur related issues. I would highly recommend this book...

Good Read-Lots of Great Insight Even After the Shakedown
I was very impressed by the knowledge in this book. It has a ton of useful information for everyone from entrepreneurs to investors to other financial professionals. In addition, the content is fresh and much more applicable to the "after the shakedown" landscape than other venture capital oriented books such as eBoys, Confessions of a Venture Capitalist and Done Deals. This is a great book that has a ton of useful information straight from some very accomplised venture capitalists.

I read this book,it was a fascinating experience to learn things from iacocca how he got over the struggling periods from Ford to Chrysler. Its a lif e of a man who is fired for his good work and loved to live with cars

Inspiring
This book is definitely a slap in the face of Henry Ford.

A very good read, interesting and inspiring book for people with a flare for business. It wakes you up with a jolt, makes you sit up and say to yourself, what the heck am i doing sleeping over my skills. It instills in you a driving force to go for what you want to achieve in life/.

Lee's, sacrifices for his goals, are amazing. His belief in himself and his ability to make others believe in him is undoubtedly the best quality in Lee and which every businessman/woman should learn from.

It is time for the bosses around the world to sit back and think that employees can sometimes be better than yourself and still not cheat or be disloyal to you. That was what Lee was to Ford. But Henry was too blind. And chrysler was too damn lucky.

Should be read by every Manager.
It's truly a Management book but at the same time a thriller which should be read by people in low spirits especially those who have just been fired from their positions.
