Wonderful Small Town Atmosphere
A BABY OF HER OWN is another winner from the talented Brenda Novak. A master at creating emotional depth, Ms. Novak offers a study into human need.

Librarian Delaney Lawson is thirty years old. There's no man in her future and her biological clock is ticking. She longs to have someone to love--a baby of her own. The trick is how to get the job done.

Delaney goes to a Boise bar and finds Conner Armstrong. Sparks fly for both of them, but it's a one-night stand. The next morning Delaney returns to the small town of Dundee only to discover the man she hoped never to see again is now living on a nearby ranch.

How Delaney and Conner, two needy people, come to grips with their parental responsibility and their growing attraction to each other despite well-intentioned relatives, provides a page- turning story of high emotion and tenderness. This is Ms. Novak at her best. Highly recommended.

Small town charm and well intentioned interference
With the arrival of her thirtieth birthday and with her best friend's plans to move, Delaney Lawson longs to fill the empty places of her life and her heart with a child of her own. Acting completely out of character and swept away by her impetuous best friend's encouragement, Delaney and Rebecca drive to Boise to find a man. Never mind Delaney's virginity; one night of naughtiness will fill more important needs.

Connor Armstrong noticed the women the moment they entered the bar. The woman he comes to know as Delaney wears a sinful dress that completely contrasts her attitude. Connor has vowed to give up his dissolute life, but Delaney proves to be temptation he cannot refuse. Their night together is magic, but when Connor says that he wants to see her again Delaney escapes without leaving behind a trace of her identity.

Three weeks later, the test strip turns pink and reality sets in. Delaney's foolish plan was successful, but the consequences are much greater than she expected. Worse, Connor has moved to town to take over his grandfather's ranch. And when he tracks Delaney down and learns of the pregnancy, Connor makes it clear that he will not simply walk away. It seems impossible that Connor can overcomes his feelings of betrayal, or Delaney her feelings of guilt, especially as events spiral completely out of control for both of them.

Friendship, family, and offbeat personalities sparkle in A BABY OF HER OWN. Brenda Novak once again displays her dazzling gift for creating characters we believe in, who make us react whether it be with a laugh or a tear, resulting in both vivid drama and entrancing tenderness. On one hand, Delaney struggles with the tick of her biological clock, a desire to be loved, and her wish for a child. On the other hand, Conner's own need for family and an opportunity to prove himself compliments Delaney's personality perfectly, but the struggle to prove his sincerity to both her and his grandfather pushes him to the limit. In addition, Rebecca carves her own place in readers' hearts with her purple hair and brash attitude that conceals a heart of gold, causing readers to eagerly look forward to her tale next year. Delaney's loving but meddlesome family and small town likewise spring to live with a charm that all big city dweller occasionally long for. A BABY OF HER OWN comes very highly recommended.

Great romance
In Sacramento, California, Tribune police beat reporter and single mother Maggie Russell raises her preschool son while working the night shift. Her only entertainment not associated with her child is the Internet and currently she exchanges e-mail with a man named John. Maggie is working on a case that probably involves serial killer Dr. Dan, who targets female journalists.

Ogden, Utah based FBI agent Nick Sorenson is undercover as a photographer for the Tribune. He is watching Maggie who he and his superiors think might be Dr. Dan's next victim. He is also watching Maggie because he finds himself attracted to the beautiful divorcee. As he falls in love with Maggie and she falls in love with John, Dr. Dan sets in motion his plan to make her his next victim.

DEAR MAGGIE is a powerful romantic suspense tale that explains the Super in this imprint. The story line is fast-paced, loaded with non-stop action, and an intriguing romantic triangle. Maggie is a magnificent lead player as she is brave yet emotionally vulnerable and a perfect profile for the killer. Nick is a hero who knows what he wants: Maggie, not just safe, but permanently in his life. Her son Zach provides some moments of amusement that only an outsider observing his actions will find mirth in, but it serves to ease some of the taut tension that almost overwhelms the reader. Brenda Novak has written a novel that sub-genre fans will relish.

Another dazzling hit! -- Very highly recommended
Maggie Russell is the ideal heroine, maintaining her vulnerability even as she presents herself as strong, direct, spunky and tenderhearted. Although she's left behind the difficult teen years of acne and embarrassment over her red hair, Maggie's professional self-confidence masks the insecurities of her personal life. Maggie rates men by their F.P., father potential, because she's the single parent of three-year-old Zach, the love of her life. A police reporter, Maggie works the night shift to have more time to spend with Zach. Maggie had worked at a tabloid to support her previous husband while he was in school, so she hopes that working at the Sacramento paper will lead to real journalistic opportunities, even a front page byline someday.

Severely handicapped on Maggie's F.P. meter, sexy Nick Sorenson works at the same Sacramento paper as Maggie. His undercover position as photographer allows him to accompany her on her night shift work, easily concealing his real motives as an undercover FBI agent. Maggie wants a relationship with a man that is safe, and that will lead to permanence. Nothing about Nick whispers permanence. Despite her best intentions, however, Maggie can't deny that Nick makes her libido skyrocket. In fact, everything about him shouts, "live for the moment." Little does she suspect that Nick want to protect her from becoming the next victim of a heinous serial killer. Further, Maggie doesn't have a clue that her new email pal is actually Nick's alter ego (Great! Now he's competing against himself.), and that the deception could save her life.

Rising star Brenda Novak pens another dazzling hit with DEAR MAGGIE. Told with her characteristic beguiling style, Novak daringly weaves intrigue and danger around this romantic plot to create a memorable tale. Her carefully crafted, rounded characterizations, and carefully researched descriptions of crime reporting will hold the reader's attention rapt. DEAR MAGGIe not only has the warmth and emotion Novak's fans have come to expect, but delivers a fresh tale of danger and intrigue that will undoubtedly draw a whole new audience to this remarkable novel. Very highly recommended.

Excellent book for college drafting course.
This is an excellent college level text.I particularly like the detailed "real world" drafting problems for the students. Also it has a very good apppendix. It is comprehensive enough that we use it in three different courses here at Vincennes University.

EXTREMELY HELPFUL
I have had this book in my drafting library for some time now. I am always using it and recommending it. The book is laid out so that you can go from beginning drafting up through advanced. It not only says what the standards are, but walks you through drafting technology so that you understand why they are like they are. I believe that anyone that is going to be doing drafting should have this in their library.

How to Meditate

I'm a cheeseball, but I like it.
I want to review this book because it kind of had a rather big impact on my life, now that I look back on it. I don't review books often, but I figured I ought to do something and perhaps the author will at some point know that I appreciated his work. I picked up this book on how to meditate sort of randomly one day because I was trying to find items to take home for some item I was exchanging at a bookstore. I didn't expect it to be much but it was. It was a simple step by step guide to help beginners focus and learn to concentrate, learn to control our bodies and minds, and to be aware of and to control the energy that exists in the universe. Now it's more than a decade later and I still remember this book because without it I wouldn't have had the first clue about how to raise energy in my current magickal studies, unless I'd somehow stumbled across it some other way. The book shows how natural and easy and wonderful meditation and its related arts can be, and I'm eternally grateful.

A Jewel of a Book!
How to Meditate by John Novak was the one of the first meditation books that I ever bought. Nearly 10 years later, thanks to this great introductory volume, I am still meditating and feeling the lasting benefits! Although the title is somewhat basic sounding (there are lots of books called "How to Meditate" out there) this is THE ONE that is the most focused, practical and profound and one of the few of its kind that I could really recomend. I've also bought a couple of the other "How to Meditate" books and was disappointed that they were really just surveys or smorgasbords of a bunch of different techniques. In this one, Novak is careful to present one coherent, well-thought out system that you can really feel his enthusiasm for. I really couldn't recomend a better introductory guide to meditation (and its even one of the least expensive!).

A minimalist classic
"Instant Notes in Microbiology" is a cheap and cheerful alternative to the proliferation of glossy microbiology textbooks which the North American market has spawned over the last decade. If cheap and cheerful puts you off, it shouldn't. The book is comprehensive, well written, well illustrated (in black and white), and importantly, reasonably priced. Unashamedly concentrating on a non-medical approach to microbiology (although medical microbiology is covered as well), the book lives up to it's title and presents a wide range of material concisely in an extended note format.
So what's the downside? I wonder if students can be weaned away from the Technicolor extravaganzas which compete for their attention, or if lecturers can be persuaded to adopt this minimalist volume as opposed to the competition? Also, while this is an excellent introduction to microbiology, to progress to a deeper understanding of specific topics, students will need to be persuaded to undertake extra reading and research. As we know, back to basics can have it's pitfalls, but put to the purpose for which it is intended, this is the most useful microbiology textbook it has been my pleasure to read for many years.....

Great "refresher" book
I have been traditionally schooled as a molecular biologist and had not dealt with microbiology since an intro course in college. When a new job landed me in a bacterial research lab, I panicked. This book has provided me with a great review of microbiology and prompted me to remember things I didn't know that I knew! The text is clearly stated and easy to understand. There are many cross references to other sections of the book which help to tie concepts together in a quick and concise manner. The diagrams are well drawn and very concise. I would recommend this book for those who have had some micro, but feel the need to brush up on the basic concepts.

A Tribute To American Women
To the person who recommended this book to me--thank you!

The title for my review is taken from a line in the introduction of this book. The line in the introduction refers to a statement made by A. Lincoln. He was referring to the nurses of the Civil War. I use this line because the entire booklet is a tribute.

I was able to learn more from these pages than from hours in a classroom. The authors have a definite flair for writing interesting and informative material. I will be excited to read future works by the MacCaskill/Novak writing team.

A Tribute To American Women...
First of all--this book was recommended to me--thank you!

I am taking a line from the introduction of this book for the title of this review. In this book, this line refers to the words of Abraham Lincoln, in praise, of the women of the United States during the Civil War.

This booklet is a tribute. Well written and informative, I have learned more in these pages than I ever have in hours in the classroom. I would like to thank the authors of this book. I will look forward to reading any future works by the Libby/Novak team.

My 21 month old toddler LOVED this book!
This was the first book with a substantial storyline depending on text that my young toddler daughter was able to sit through and enjoy. She was able to relate to and fully understand the very lovely stories about Newt's relationships with the other characters, Mouse, Newt's Bug, and the moon. This book also helped to increase her vocabulary and deal with feelings related to fears about going to sleep in the dark. The illustrations are also lovely and easy for a child to relate to. While this book was written for older children learning to read, it is also a terrific book for a younger child being read to. My only hope is that Matt Novak will write more stories about Newt. He is such a great character.

A funny unique way to learn lessons of compassion and caring
This book will make you, your child, or even any adult who reads it, laugh. It is a book you will want to read to your child over and over again. Newt learns lessons along his daily routine that makes it easy for your reader to understand.

THAT'S MY FATHER!!!
I first read the book when I was four. I am now, at the age of ninteen, a fully qualified obstrician/gynecologist, all because of this book. I have now, of course, read this several times, but it is still like reading it for the first time. As the title implies, my father is David Olive, the editor of this book. I fully recommend this book to anyone who is remotely interested in a profession as a gynecologist.

Your medical library is not complete without this book!
A comprehensive book, essential to every Ob-Gyn resident or clinician. Takes you from the basics of anatomy and physiology of the female reproductive tract to the management of complicated gynecologic conditions.

One of the best sources available
This book is loaded with technical information for the dratsman and designer. A must have for anyone who is in the mechanical technology field.

One of the best text books ever written...
This text was the basic drafting manual that I used during my technical education; its use did not end with school, however, since I refer to it frequently in my occupation. It tells everything that needs to be explained and described in the general drawing problems that might be encountered in industrial practice. It contains excellent descriptions and illustrations for: Drawing Threads, Fasteners & Springs Geometric Constructions Clear, Concise instructions in using Drafting Instruments, (before the time of Computer Aided Drafting & Desing, in any case). An Excellent overview of the Industrial Design & Development Process, (which I wish my supervisors would read). Sectional Drawing. This book is to drafting what Machinery's Handbook, of the Industrial Press, is to the metal working industries. There are a variety of Drafting Textbooks available, but none are incrementally better, let alone drasticaly better.

Voices of the Voiceless
I have toured the USA with a production of BRUNDIBAR, the children's opera from Theresienstadt, for two years and I served on the Alabama Holocaust Commission. To truly understand Theresienstadt (Terezin) and the Holocaust this is a MUST read. Here, in their own words are relfections, poetry, and day to day recollections of Hitler's "model camp" known as Theresienstadt through the eyes of the boys from L417 who were between 12-14 years old. The book details the beginnings of the "Republic of Shkid" and using photographs, poetry, and authentic works of art, the book gives the reader a truly rare and inspiring glimpse into concentration camp life. If you really dare to begin to understand anything about the Holocaust then begin with this book! Vedem - "In the Lead" will forever lead me!

emotional ride into the odyssey of the terror of the Terezin
As the daughter of one of the authors I have heard all the stories of the holocaust and how the boys of room L417 found refuge in "Vedem" without their parents. I believe strongly that had the boys survived they would have shared a lot with the world. By simply reading a few lines of Petr Ginz's poems, art and stories you realise that he would have excelled had he had the chance which unfortunetely was cruelly torn from him. Even worse is the fact that he was not alone. Most readers do not realise that they were little boys who were taken out of their homes and away from all that they knew before the age 15 and some as young as 10.This book relates to children because it does not describe in detail the horrors but more so the small "joys" of the camp. Adults can relate because the work and articles emit the feelings of the citizens in hell. Therefore this book is truly a wonderful piece of work. For those who are interested: the book will be published in paperback soon.
