Mayrig-A Moment of Great Appreciation
Have you ever been enticed by a glamorous title of a book? Have you ever found out that the book you just bought is nonsense and bores you to death? Yes! You probably have. However, if you purchase Henri Verneuil's Mayrig, you will not regret it.

This book doesn't say much with it's title. It is unknown to most of the readers, unless they are Armenian. Mayrig means "mother" in Armenian, and the author starts the book with a simple and sad sentence: "Mayrig is dying." Then he goes back to his gloomy childhood, and tells a story that astonishes the reader. It is the history of Armenian people; the history of 1915 masacres of 1.5 million Armenians, commited by the Turkish government. It is a wonderful piece of literature, an amazing story of Ashot Malakian-an Armenian boy who had to leave his parents' homeland, and adopt to a new society, adopt to the Parade street of Marcel, France.

If you have a chance, I would recommend you to read this wonderful book, and also watch the film produced by the author, starring Claudia Cardinalle and Oman Sherif

A successful wandering into the strange world of Henri Cole
MIDDLE EARTH as a title is seductive, though not nearly so seductive as the always-near-the-point-of-revelation that these sensually beautiful poems deliver. Henri Cole explores middle age, reflecting on his parents, his memories of childhood, and examines his responses to the return to the Japan of his youth, muses on longing, desire, beauty, and fear. These poems are all personal, memoiresque musings and in the hands of less secure poets such revelations can seem more self serving than sharing. But in Coles' rolling lines we come to understand or at least explore our own fears and delights as well as entering his middle earth of life. This is a lovely and elegant collections of ethereal poems by a man who understands his craft. And your intuition will lead you to the subterranean truths gently cloaked in his Middle Earth.

Nouwen is at it again!?!
Henri J. M. Nouwen does it one more time in this compilation of three of his most popular works. This is a book for all those involved with any type of ministry, especially those with a leadership role in ministry as a whole. Priests, Ministers and so forth would do well in improving their ministerial lives by reading this materpiece. Nouwen is not focusing on all the technical aspects of the ministerial experience, e.g. psychological, counseling, and so forth, but he has the reader realize that what is truly important in ministry, above all, is the encounter we have with the other person we are ministering to.

Ministry is not some abstract experience, but is something that is real, in the here and now of it all. Nouwen, in this very prolific compilation, demonstrates how ministry is truly a fruitful experience between the person being ministered to and the minister. Ultimately, Christ is the center of our experience in ministry, and we need to try to find the face of Christ in the other at all times, as well as try to unveil him in us.

Me Show Michaux.
Henri Michaux wrote a lot about his drug experiences, and in particular with his horrendously painful experiences with the grand-daddy of all psychotropic drugs: mescaline. I've never done mescaline so I can't compare notes with Michaux's observations, but nonetheless reading this account was a sheer joy. Michaux's scintillating prose gives the reader an unembellished yet thoroughly poetic account of the mind of a man who has experienced the supposed rapturous delight/horror provided by mescaline intoxication. The visions and hallucinations which Michaux amiably recounts will tickle even the most jaded drug enthusiast. The text published by City Lights in S.F. includes drawings executed by Michaux during his most feverish bouts with the drug. Recommended for those of you obsessed with the effects of hallucinogenic drugs on the literary imagination and artistic creation.

Great inspirational Book
Henri Nouwen gives us all a wonderful way to start each day! His inspirational and thought provoking views of life, both practical and spiritual, are just right for any Christian. Although Nouwen was Roman Catholic, his writings provide "soul food" for anyone looking for something more from day to day life. I would recommend this lovely little book to all.

Excellent Concept!
In 1997, the editors of this work organized A Meeting of the Minds 2: ITEC Virtual Conference '97. Presenters from around the globe submitted essays which formed the basis for electronic discussions during the virtual conference. This collection includes over 40 essays which were originally presented at this groundbreaking conference. Contributors are from Australia, Canada, Iceland, the UK and the USA.

The conference was divided into ten strands as follows: Censorship: More Problems. Possible Solutions?; Children's Literature and the Internet: Issues and Services; Critical Thinking in the Electronic Age; Electronic Collection Development: Selection and Management Issues; More Hot Spots for Teacher Librarians; MOO Trek: Using MOOs in Education; Multiple Personalities?: Teacher Librarian, Cybrarian, Director of Information Services; Process and Product: How Do We Access Students' Work?; Professional Electronic Networks for Teacher Librarians; The School Library Home Page

Each strand is represented in the work with essays written by school library professionals who provide a wide range of viewpoints and demonstrate the universality of issues concerning the profession.

This is an excellent collection of essays dealing with many of the concerns of our profession as we continue to embrace the electronic world. Not only useful to teacher librarians, but could be used to further educate teachers and administrators on the role of the teacher librarian in a digital world.

One of the best of the Castang books
Inspector Castang was overtired and wanted nothing more to retire home to his wife Vera's cooking and a good night's sleep. The absolute last thing he needed was for a nude female corpse to show up in the boot of a Rolls-Royce belonging to a British VIP.

I have to admit to generally being partial to Freeling's Van Der Valk books, but _The Night Lords_ is everything a mystery should be. The characters are vivid and detailed, there's a great deal of rich local scenery, and the plot doesn't disappoint in terms of either mystery or police procedure. A definite read for Freeling fans and not a bad place to begin if you're new to the Castang books.
