Extremely well written - and warm and bubbly!
I adored this book. The other reviews have covered the general storyline. What sets this book apart from others is its warmth and fun. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The repartee is excellent between the romantic characters and among the whole character ensemble yet all is very clean. I think this book would appeal to all ages from young teen to adult. That's saying a lot. I am not adverse to sexual scenes in books so I am not endorsing this book because of its extremely clean dialogue and story. But the fact that it leaves such a warm feeling after any female finishes it regardless of age speaks volumes.

I looooooooooooved this book. Deserves ten stars
I did so enjoy this book. This is one of the books I reread at certain intervals. It was such a wonderful book.I loooooooved the interplay between Kate&Mr.Markham.Each trying to outfox the other.Kate behaves just the way a Kate is expected to behave.I also enjoyed the behaviour of the youngest Farthington sister, Chloe.I loved how she put words that people used in her hearing away for further use.

A delightful Book
Katherine Farthington was determined that her devious uncle, the unscrupulous Edward Farthington would not sell their family home. When Uncle Edward brought the urbane Nicholas Markham and the Duke of Bellingham, prospective buyers, to Farthington Hall, the mischievous Katherine and her sisters put a devilish scheme to work With outlandish tales of ghostly hauntings, moldering chimneys, and crumbling shingles, they set out to prove that Markham's purchase of the estate would be pure folly.

But Markham was not so easily duped-and he knew that all was not as it seemed at Farthington Hall. He also knew that his only folly would be to leave behind the beautiful and high-spirited Katherine, who was unwittingly scheming her way into his gentlemanly heart...

If you can lay your hands on a copy I would do so. This is a lighthearted and amusing story. Great for a chuckle

Excellent Daily Reading
I found a paperback version on sale at a christian bookstore. It was their only and last copy. So I snatched it up. I am very fond of the New King James Version and I love reading it everyday. Each section offers a bit from the O.T. as well as the N.T. Over a year one should have been through the whole Bible. I am still in the process of reading and am very eager to discover a balanced view of who Yaweh and Y'shua really are. Reading Oswald Chamber's viewpoints are inspiring as well. That man obviously loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind and strength. I would very much like to find a hardcover version.

Great Bible to Read with Your Spouse
Do you want to read the Bible but think you don't have time with your busy schedules? We have read this Bible for several years and each year I think maybe we should read a different one but we always come back to this one. As a couple, we find the message for each day and the mix of Old Testament, New Testament, Proverbs and Psalms an easy way to kick off our day. With a fresh brewed cup of coffee and a dose of age old wisdom, it sets the tone for our whole day. Reading the Bible together and praying together in the mornings before work has changed our marriage. Try reading it with your spouse and hang on for the adventure of a lifetime. The prayer is important too! We are buying 2 more copies for friends and a new hardbound one for us. The old has been used so much it is falling apart! Each time we read it, we learn something new about our situation or relationship.

This makes reading the entire Bible attainable & fun.
This is the greatest version I've come across yet. It is easy to do every day, it didn't bog me down in the legalistics of the Old Testament as I always felt when I was just reading the Bible through, and the words of Oswald Chambers are always so meaningful. It is such a blessing!

If you want to get a lot of meaning out of your Bible or just want a devotional book to do each day that only takes about 1/2 hr per day, this book is for you, and the paperback is easy to carry with you.

The Best Overview of the Bible on the Market Today
This easy to read book reflects the simple, yet powerful teaching of Tommy Nelson. I have enjoyed Tommy's humorous but no-nonsense style for years, and this book really does look at the "Big Picture." From alpha and omega, beginning to end, Tommy walks the reader through the whole Bible with meaningful insight and illustration that makes the Book of Books come alive. Excellent for the long-time believer AND the skeptic. A must have for every Christian library.

Complete, sound theology in typical T. Nelson style
This book covers it all, from beginning to end; actually from before the beginning to after the end. Nelson knocks out all the issues from God's sovereign perspective. This answers not only what, but why. I know he doesn't like to write, but I would love another book.

It's ALL good
In reading this book, I've learned to understand more about the christian faith and how I can apply it in my life.

An Excellent Book
I really enjoyed this book. Going back to before the series as we know it began and getting history on some of the characters gives the book another dimension. This book would be interesting reading in and of itself, but as an avid fan of the Midnight Louie series, I was thrilled. I can wait to read the remaining three from the beginning of the series.

Excellent, great fun and fast moving.
I have all of Carole Nelson Douglas Midnight Louie and Irene books. Love them and hope they keep coming. Also, get the audios every chance I get. Thanks for hours of enjoyment. I find them very absorbing and entertaining.Wish they came out faster.

Midnight Louie's first great tale

Though his family is renowned as Mafiosi, Nicky Fontana runs a completely legal business. He currently plans to renovate an aging Las Vegas landmark into a major, first class casino. He hires Van Von Rhine to oversee the operation, giving her a budget of just under $8 million.

However, an unknown assailant wants Nicky to fail. That individual will do anything to make sure that the renovation project fails. Midnight Louie, feline private eye extraordinaire, decides to investigate in order to expose the culprit. As Louie snoops, Van struggles with adapting to the Vegas glitter as well as her personal attraction to Nicky.

THE CAT AND THE KING OF CLUBS is the full version of Midnight Louie's debut novel. The publisher sliced and diced this tale and the subsequent three other books that made up the original series. However, Carole Nelson Douglas has brought the gem back to its original glittering self. The who-done-it story line remains fresh and even more fulfilling this time around as Louie shows why he owns the universe. Fans of the series will take great pleasure with this "expanded" reprint. The audience will feel elation over the upcoming release of the other three tales from the original set that established Louie as one of the best feline sleuths on the prowl.

Unique presentation
What sets this book apart from the usual book of beautiful paintings is the text. Every painting is accompanied by a statement from the artist addressing some aspect of the creative process, ranging from why the scene was chosen to difficulties encountered in executing it. In addition there is a statement by a professional naturalist giving interesting natural history information about each location. You would expect a book of paintings to be a pleasure to view, and this one is. But it is also a pleasure to read.

Door County Spirit Captured In Paintings And Text
Door County, Wisconsin, combines the natural beauty of bluff-defined shorelines, northern forests, quiet meadows, secluded wetlands, and an astonishing array of wildflowers. This coffee table book features the work of 70 artists who set out to capture the wildplaces of Door County. Most of the paintings were selected by a nationally-known jury. Some invited works are by well-known artists such as Charles Peterson, Karsten and Ellen Topelmann, James Ingwerson, and Gerhard Miller. Paintings represent the artist's impressions of the special wildplaces of the peninsula, and there's not a painting in the book that I wouldn't wish to frame and display in my home. A truly special book for a special place.

Awesome Work by incredible artists
An outstanding variety of fantastic work. Any Door County fan will appreciate the true beauty of Door County and the incredible talent of the artists in the area. Charles Peterson, Bridget Austin, Jack Anderson, and other talented artists contributed to this awesome book. Worth double the price and for a great cause...

I loved this book
This book took me by surprise, drew me in and made me feel like I was IN the authors life, watching her grow up. I could hardly put it down. Growing up in Harlem in the 1940s and 50s, full of the stubborn pride and determination that carried her up and out. Beautifully written.

Chewed Water
Chewed Water is a book that stayed with me long after I read it. It's the story of,Virgina, a foster child growing up in Harlem in the 1950's. Though the book is labeled a memoir it has a novelistic quality that sets it apart from other memoirs that I have read. Rahman's language is rich and lyrical and she beautifully evokes a place and time that we do not hear much about, especially from the perspective of a young African-American girl. I found myself immersed in Rahman's world where colorful characters, musical rhythms and the politics of the day, make-up the vivid background of a heart-wrenching coming of age story. But the book rises above the tell-all tale of painful youth and through Virigina's eyes we enter a world that is sometimes cruel, often humorous and always fascinating. Rahman wickedly comments on the world around her as she shares her story of growing up, longing for the mother that she doesn't have and surviving the one that she does have. I laughed out loud reading this book and it also brought tears to my eyes. I highly recommend it.

This book is a must read!
Chewed Water is just that and more. It is smooth, it is rough it will make you swallow and leave you thirsting. It will quench that voice of recognition way down deep. It will reverberate -- vibrate as water does - long after the read is through. Aishah Rahman lifts her prophetic voice to tell the haltingly human story depicting the mythical angst of a young girl, growing up in Harlem in the forties and fifties. It is a breathtaking tale of her long and winding journey to herself.

Chewed Water is a telling social commentary told without compromising the artist's aesthetics which are indisputably unshakeable. Aishah Rahman's joy/sorrow-stricken prose liltingly lifts us out of the depths of our unknowing, porting us into the world of the protagonists -- mixing our hues with the blue, black and brown of her characters. This memoir, masterfully woven, is apopros given the turbulent time in our world. The birth of a son to a young, unwed mother echoes the historical forces sweeping the nation. Cycles of violence, dispossession, disinheritance are relived in three generations of lives, in the neighborhoods of Harlem, and in African descended homes from Barbados to North Carolina. We can learn, re-learn, un-learn deep lessons by reflecting on these forces. We must take the time to ruminate as Virginia come Aishah does, the source of her disrepair. And most important, lessons on how she came to embrace the bitter and the sweet in a loving reclamation of herself.

Chewed Water is an evocative Poetics of the Survival of the Human Spirit. The ultimate message: all is not lost. Where there is life, there is the will to live. This is the gift that grandmother passed to mother passed to daughter passed to son. Despite the unknowing, the unseen, the unheard. Despite the condition of a family, a multitude of families, scattered all across the landscape of the American dream - separated by economic constraints, lack of opportunity, the search for a better life - separated. Despite the demise of the Black family, the demise of the Black father who is not able or not present to care for his wife and children, the demise of the Black mother who knows that her child will have a better chance in an institution than in the bosom of her undoing. Despite these inimical forces, the message is one of survival. Where there is one individual, there is an army of Ancestors standing by - seen or unseen, spoken or unspoken -- they are there. They live. They live! We are never alone in this world and never forgotten especially by those who live through us. Thank you Aishah Rahman for writing your memoir, in so doing, you have unlocked a masterful, moving work of art.

A MUST READ
When I finished this book, I had a new respect for Judy Nelson. With everything that has been said and printed about her she still finds it in herself to let us in and get to know her a little better. Since the only things that we really knew before her books, was that she left her husband and kids for another woman, she took alot of heat for that from both sides, gay and straight. She took even more heat when the two women parted company and her first book. It takes real strength and character to come through all of this and still refuse to tear Martina apart like she has done to Judy. I for one really thank Ms. Nelson for her honesty.

Absolutely "Riveting"
This book was magnificent. If you have ever been in love and lost that love, this is the book you need to read. I have read her first book"Love Match" and it was wonderful, but this book is "double" wonderful. She seems at peace finally and once again happy with her life. And if anyone deserves it, it is Ms. Nelson. She helped me in my time of crisis. I lost someone very special to me, and I read her book. The courage she exemplifies, made me feel like I had a friend to talk to. She is a wonderful person, makes you feel like she is your best friend. I truly hope she writes another wonderful book.

What a book!!!
This book, is a definate for anyone who needs the courage to make difficult choices in their lives. Judy Nelson has become a heroine of mine just for her convictions and her honesty. I really related to her. I read Love Match but found her changed and "still" in this one. I wish she would write more!!!

Finally, a Biblical view of Church Planting
This book is insightful, thought provoking, and practical. This isn't a "how to" book, so anyone looking for a step-by-step book should look elsewhere. However, Murray offers something much more--an approach to church-planting that is both practical AND based in solid ecclesiology. Ecclesiology is lacking in my faith tradition (evangelicalism). This book helps to fill the void. Anyone considering being a part of a church plant MUST get this book.

Outstanding!
Murray and Kraybill have produced a comprehensive book that examines Church Planting from a very balanced perspective. Their treatment of the objections to church planting is extremely valuable. Although their efforts to stay balanced cause the book to occasionally "bog down," the net effect is a classic work that will stand the test of time. This book will be a helpful guide for the leaders and participants in any church planting movement.

Necessary Read!
This is by far the best of the best. It challenges pragmatic approaches by most popular models/methods of church planting and calls for planters to understand their greater purpose as the missio Dei (mission of God). It is a trenchant critique of the idols of "purpose," "programs," and "personalities" over and above kingdom principles and perspectives.

Thoroughly biblical, yet liberating!

The Classic Mother Goose Edited by Armand Eisen
We received this book as a gift for our son's first birthday, and he has loved it to death! He loved to fill in the missing words as we read to him, and quickly learned all of his nursery ryhmes. Now at age 2, he is rediscovering this treasure...he has fallen in love with the illustrations all over again, and he understands the meaning and humor in these wonderful rhymes!

This book changed my life for the better.
I got this book when I was little and now I want this book for my little girl. My favorite nursery rhyme is the one about the Crooked man. I reccommend everyone buying this book for their children.

A perfect collection of nursery rhymes.
The Classic Mother Goose is the perfect book to introduce nursery rhymes to kids of all ages. The illustrations in this book captivate the smallest children and they will choose this book over and over again as a favorite for bedtime stories. My kids read our first copy to death. That is the true test of how good a book is.
