Very good text.
Adams and Maine(s) have put together a very good text for standard business ethics classes, or for anyone seeking a comprehensive and readable introduction to the topics and issues in business ethics. I have used it in my classes for a number of years and find it covers the topics in depth and breadth. Students have also found it clear and understandable. One drawback, as with any text for a college level course, is that some topics I would include are omitted. However, this is true of almost any text in the field and for each individual instructor. The other drawback is that for some issues it could use just a bit more "pro-con" selections and presentations. Overall, the issues are presented fairly and in a balanced manner. The stengths of the text outweigh its weaknesses by far.

New insights about 18 English Cathedrals - well written.
To travel to England without reading about and seeing some of the world's most beautiful and interesting cathedrals would be some serious shortcomings for any traveler or student of history.

David Edward has selected 18 of the best cathedrals in Britain. It has been said to see a cathedral you must first understand why it exist and then and only then can you truly see it.

Dr. Edward's book allows you to see beyond the stones and see the great spirit, ambition and faith that drove the British people between the 10th and 16th centuries to build the testimonies to God. Each cathedral has excellent color plates as well as black and white photos.

Yet, being an American, I would not, as the fly leaf does, call Mr. Edward's British writing style as "lively and stimulating" rather he writes in a scholarly manner, but none the less opens the world of cathedrals to new towering heights, and rings a few bells along the way.

Though his writing can be somewhat starched he never less brings to light new insights about cathedrals that allows you to appreciate these towering testimonies to God.

You do not have to be a Christian believer to recognize the imagination, creative spirit, intense labor and force of will it took to create these towering palaces to God.

The Cathedrals of Britain affirm the aspiration and faith of a people past, yet not lost in the current generation of Brits. Well written with clarity and Recommended.

Great, until the last dozen pages
Edward Westcott (himself a banker in upstate New York in the latter part of the 19th century) wrote only one book, but he didn't live long enough to see it published in 1898. The book, "Daivd Harum," introduces a very interesting country banker with crackerbarrel philosophy which became a wonderful character for Will Rogers in the movie of the same name. There are some terrific vignettes in this book, the Christmas one alone would make a wonderful annual TV special. Conversations between the principals sparkle with good humor and much heart. The only problem I had with the book is the two unlikely coincidences at the end of the tale. It's like the author didn't know how to resolve the issue, so he created impossible chance meetings. Not one, but two of them. However, up until this point, the book is as good as any I have read. I would suggest that you try and find it and enjoy it for yourself.

I really liked this book
When I first read this book I was in Sata Fe, New Mexico's public library looking for some other poetry book. When I cam across it I thumbed through it at first but then a few poems just grabbed me and I ended up reading the entire thing there in the public library. The poems are real. I like Edward Abbey's poetry because it is not so flowery and wordy that you lose the point, but just enuff. His metaphores and style of writting truley capture the sense of whatever momment he may be writting about.

Sandwiched between Alfred the Great and Æthelstan
Edward the Elder is perhaps the most neglected of the Anglo-Saxon kings. Overshadowed by both his father Alfred and his successor Æthelstan, he did much on his own to expand the domination of Wessex across all of England.

This book is a series of papers presented in 1999 at a conference on Edward the Elder held at the Manchester Centre for Anglo-Saxon Studies. Twenty-two papers by some of the most noted experts in their fields explore the archaeology, charter evidence, textiles, dynastic marriages, coinage, foreign relations, scriptorium production, and more of Edward the Elder's reign.

Of particular interest is the consideration of Edward's activities as king. Was he merely continuing his father Alfred the Great's program of recovering the Danelaw, fortifying the burhs, and incorporating Mercia into a comprehensive "Kingdom of the English"? Or did Edward follow his own policies in light of the opportunities he faced?

An outstanding multi-disciplinary insight into this much overlooked Anglo-Saxon king's rule.

Good information, but same as previous editions
This books offers a good overview of feature writing for both magazines and newspapers. However, when I compared the first edition of this text (1988) with the current 4th edition, I noticed very little difference, other than a huge price increase. Some of the book has been updated, but the sections that are aren't too relevant or useful. Thus, if you have the original edition of this otherwise fine text, don't bother to buy the newer version--it's nearly identical.

Great resource.
This book is a great resource for those interested in education theory. The author provides the reader with a short overview of the thinking of each of the individuals covered. I particularly appreciate the international diversity represented in this book. I found the book provided my students with a more global perspective on education theory and motivated them to do more independent research on the topic. I recommend this book as a resource and a good introduction to education theory.

down to earth book for people like you and me
I have just finished a class using this book, and on the whole its done a good job. I didn't find it in any way super special or anything, but I could read it and understand it. As far as math books go that is pretty good. Lots of exercises with answers in the back, which is what you need. Usually there are worked out examples of the most standard problems, but not always, e.g. there is no example of residue calculus with a Log function.

Another angle
This book is a glowing account of Thoreau's character, written later in life by Ralph Waldo Emerson's son Edward. Edward knew Thoreau up until the latter's death in 1862, when Edward was about 17. He has supplemented his own memory with interviews and anectdotes given him by other Concord citizens who knew the Thoreau family. These writings are a valuable resource for anyone who is researching Thoreau, with its humanizing slant and defence of its subject against perceived misunderstandings by the public. Any Thoreau fan will find this brief tract illuminating and amusing.
