Managing cultural differences, instructor's guide
This is not a 300 page book. It's a loose-leaf booklet, titled "Part D: Chapter Learning Strategies European Supplement," by Jessica L. Walters for Managing Cultural Differences 4th edition.
Since I bought this for a friend of mine in Japan who wanted this for the latest edition of Managing Cultural Differences (5th Edition), I will have to see what he says when he compares them side by side...

for the hard core fans only...
I thought with such a blockbuster title, this book would be impossible to put down... but instaed, at thirty nine thousand pages, it's impossible to pick up! As for the text itself, well, frankly, I had come to expect more from Mr Scully, whose previous efforts in the genre ("Allievial Homochromes: Diminished Thrip Fixage") kept me home on Saturday nights, to the dismay of my cocktail-party-loving wife. I will admit the work contains valuable reference materials, and a lot of good charts, particularly on incipient gonad malformation; but even this topic is drier than one might hope.

I will always anticipate Sully's latest work, though I would suggest that neophytes might be better served picking up any of his 1970s efforts ("Regenerative Dysphasiac Therapies: Slock Nodes" for starters) before picking up this one.

Confusing book
I was reading this book for reference on ChangeListener (page 729). The examples given does not even IMPLEMENT the ChangeListener interface. What a strange way to programing. This is entirely different from LeMay's TY 21 day examples. I am really confused. I am not buying another book by the same authors.

Files missing from CD-ROM
I bought this book when I was a beginner and read it rather quickly. Today I started work on a telnet client and remembered the book describing the use of telnet URLConnection. Cool, so I loaded the CD-ROM and to my disappointment no protocol handlers (the telnet handler or one for the other example) were included at all. I e-mailed their support person but after a few exchanges it became clear he didn't have a clue.

Good for intermediate JAVA programmer, bad for any other....
I found this a good reference on networking, I/O, RMI, and some threading.... but then again, I had some previous knowledge on each of those topics. Non-the-less, if you would like more information on those topics, I recommend it. Besides those topics, this book doesn't tell you anything useful. Just scratches a surface on Swing...

Remember that if you're a beginner or an advanced JAVA programmer, then this book will be completely useless. Trust me! For the amount of money, there're lots of better books around. In fact, you'll find the Official JAVA tutorial on java.sun.com much much better.... and it's free.

I AGREE WITH THE PERSON BELOW
This collection is a travesty indeed. Great poems no doubt, but abysmally read. Furthermore they should have put all the introductions together separate and apart from the poems. It's nice to hear intros the first time around. But who wants to hear the intros everytime you listen to the poems? Sometimes I want to hear just a stream of poetry without any interuptions and this format makes that impossible. It's incredible that such a great concept could be so terribly executed.

Absolutely Terrible Readings
I could not get this back to the store for a refund quickly enough. While the poem selection is great and the poem introductions are narrated well, the choice to use "modern poets" as the readers made this compilation utterly unlistenable. The only one that I found acceptable was Anthony Hect--the others were notably bad. In particular, I found Jorie Graham's "readings" to be abysmal. She reads each poem as if it were simply a string of unconnected words, giving equal stress to each, with halting pauses between them, never breaking out of a drowsy monotone. Other readers were not much better.

There are three major flaws in the readings:

1) The readers are no better than the average untrained person, and often much worse. (You've just got to hear them for yourself to appreciate how bad they are.)

2) Successive poems by the same poet are read by different "readers." It's jarring to hear 3 or 4 poems from Poet X, each in a wildly different voice.

3) No regard is given to matching the sex of the poet and reader. In general, it is really annoying to hear your favorite poet read by the wrong sex. In particular, making this mistake on "gender specific" poems (like having a woman read Poe's "Annabel Lee") is unforgivable.

Why is this all so upsetting? Because it is practically impossible to find poetry collections on CD, making this a serious waste of limited resources. If you are looking for a good collection on CD, buy "81 Famous Poems CD" by Audio Partners (ISBN 0-945353-82-0). It's a good collection on two CDs and is read by professionals: Alexander Scourby, Bramwell Fletcher, and Nancy Wickwire. In the meantime, we can only hope that the producers of this collection will eventually come to their senses and re-record the poems with the services of trained professionals.

The Classic Hundred Poems: All Time Favorites
If you are prepping for the GRE in literature or are trying to gain a basic understanding of literary periods and poets, this audio-collection is a must. It features a brief introduction about each poet's life. It also includes a brief introduction about the theme of each poem. The fact that you have to listen to these introductions before listening to the poem inculcate the poem and aids retention. If literature has turned into a cumbersome and overwhelming task, this collection will not only provide you with a sense of direction but will also make literature far more pleasurable.

Dry Dry and More dry
I had this history book the first semester of my freshman year in college and let me tell you, it is a very dry book. There is a lot of unnecessary information and all the little details make it even worse. Also, some of the information is dusty while some of the points the author points out are very arguable and seem untrue. Once again, this is a very dry book.

very readable
For teachers and amateur historians, this is a very readable text. Plus, the layout is nice and easy to look at. It also offers a reasonably good bibliography as well as chapter summaries. All in all it is user-friendly

If it can't be simplified, you don't understand it.
In an honors-level physics course at my high school here in the Bay Area, the largest number of complaints regarding the course was the book. The Fundamentals of Physics: A Senior Course remains unnecessarily wordy and imprecise in its explanations; in many cases, I had found apt substitutes for physics when I could not understand the reading material. The descriptions were not advanced, but poorly explained; the equation simplifications were unclear and many of the example problems were simply too easy. Look elsewhere.

Run away from this book !!!
This manual appears to have been written to suit the OA (senior high school) physics program in Ontario, Canada. There is only one edition to this book (1987).

Unlike most physics textbooks (Tipler, Serway, Resnick, Giancoli...), this one contains serious "knowledge" and "comprehension" mistakes.

For example, the author describes incorrectly Cosmic Rays (they do not include X-rays, as stated in the texbook). Also, he has the Coulomb as the basic electric unit ( incorrect...it is the Ampere). Elsewhere, his description of the electric potential in an example is such that one wonders if he understands what it is.

Perhaps what worries me most is that many schools are still using this textbook, and that most teachers teaching physics are not specialized in the field ( i.e., no degrees in physics), thus may very well propagate those very mistakes.

So, if you wish to learn physics, this is not the book for you.

Slow torture
This book is by no stretch of the imagination good at what it aims to do...teach accounting. The explanations are lengthy and tend not to explain the concept fully. I have taken previous accounting courses and this text is laughably horrible.

Not only that, but the problems at the end of the chapter are absolutely horrendous. These problems are poorly worded and require further explanation from the professor (who sometimes has no clue himself).

This book does nothing to prepare me for a future in financial analysis.

All in all, I would only recommend this book if a person really wanted to find a reason to commit suicide or simply die of boredom.

Intermediate Accounting and the online Joke
I think that your online quizes are the most rediculous things I have seen in my four years of college. Not only are they on such minute detail that they require several readings of your material in order to pick out the correct answers, they are enforcing a feeling of defeat in the early part of my semester. Your tests do not measure what I have learned, they measure how much raw data I have memorized, this will not assist me in becoming a better accountant. I suggest you revamp your tecnique and use your web site to assist in learning rather than the emphasis on memorizing small accounting factoids that are buried deep in your poorly written and overpriced texts.

As a class room text
I have been associated with using this book in a class room setting. The level of statistics is Ph.D and overall the class thought the book was written at a depth that was appropriate, but was written in such a way that it was not only hard to read but did not explain itself in a logical means. The instructor often had to apologize for the short comings found in the book.
A revision in in need.
