Helpful and Easy to Use.
This book makes it very easy to write cover tailored to each company and your specific circumstance. It is my most used job search reference. You will get interviews. My only criticism is I wish the thank you letter section was bigger and had more samples. Otherwise this book is a great help.

A Must-Read for Job-Seekers!
This book is an excellent resource for college students and recent graduates. It guides the reader through the basic format of a cover letter, and includes appropriate ways to tailor it based on various circumstances. It also instructs the reader on using attention-grabbing wording and warns against some common pitfalls of letter-writing. The book also reveals helpful ways of making use of a cover letter on the internet. The best feature, though, is the extensive set of sample letters included. The author uses actual cover letters she has received to illustrate points within the text. This book is highly recommended to anyone who is new to job hunting, or who could use a little extra help in securing interviews.

Mahvelous Companion Volume to your Hepburn Film Collection
What I most appreciate about this particular volume as a reference book on the film career of Katharine Hepburn is that it is richly illustrated with both professional and candid photographs, provides a complete list of the cast and crew for each of her films, and extensive excerpts from contemporary reviews. "The Films of Katharine Hepburn" is a wonderful companion volume to my almost complete tape collection of Katharine Hepburn films (Hey! I even tracked down "The Iron Petticoat"!).

The introductory "Rebellious Lady: A Biographical Capsule" is only two-dozen pages long but it covers Hepburn's professional career in a complete but concise manner. The photographs included in the essay are the best collection of Hepburn shots you are likely to find, including: a rare shot of Hepburn with her husband, FDR and her gibbon monkey Amos. There is also a watercolor of Hepburn by Ginger Rogers, a bust by Robert McKnight, Alexander Brooks famous 1938 painting, and even Hepburn's first appearance with Spencer Tracy...in the 1938 Mickey Mouse cartoon "Mother Goose Goes Hollywood" (he is one of the three men in a tub along with Charles Laughton and Freddie Bartholomew and she is Little Bo Peep, who has lost her sheep and doesn't know where to find them... "rheally I don't.")

The main portion of the volume is just what the title says, Hepburn's films. For each film Dickens provides the cast, credits, a synopsis, commentary from the "Critic's Circle," and notes on the film, along with at least a half-dozen photographs. The synopsis tend to run towards the short side, but that just underscores that this is a supplementary text and is not intended to substitute for the films. The excerpts from the reviews, which focus specifically on Hepburn for the most part, are the most fascinating part of the volume. In keeping with this you find that even in his own notes Dickens tends to use the words of others--Hepburn, her co-stars, her director--to provide insights into the film and her performance.

Dickens' book ends with a stage chronicle of Hepburn's career, a gallery of Hepburn in each of her film roles, and a list of not only Hepburn's Oscar nominations but her competition for Best Actress each year as well. This format serves Dickens well, not only in this volume but in the other ones he has produced.

Excellent book! I've reread it several times, and loved it!
I've reread this book many times, and always find something new. Katherine has developed a new culture and world, one I love visiting in her books. Her story is thought provoking. I found this story open minded, intricate, and with wonderful characters. Thanks for sharing your story with me, Katherine!

This is one of my favorite books!
I have loved this book for a long time and I'm sorry to see that it is out of print. I actually stole (borrowed) my mother's copy so that I could read it for the umpteenth time. The characters are stong and compelling, the plot is deep and twisting, and the setting - oh wow! I was not surprised to find out that the author has an art degree! The world of Nuala is painted with words as rich as any pigments imaginable. From the moment we meet the outworlders journeying to Nuala for a "holiday" we are swept up in intrigue, mystery, romance, and danger. The entire book is rich in culture, religion and politics that are not of our world, and yet are familiar because they are so totally human. If you are a fan of sci-fi/fantasy and are looking for something that will suck you in, this is it. Offworld soldiers Moran and Lyte are visiting Nuala for a festival and so that Moran can see his betrothed, Ronuviel, a member of the ruling house of Atare. But the offworld federation has warned Lyte of possible danger, there is a plot afoot to topple the house of Atare, and the second in line for the throne is insane. When the front lines of the war with the Fewha shift, political survival takes a back seat to the saving of lives, and Nuala is changed forever. I highly recommend this book (as if that weren't clear already!) so start looking in those used bookstores!

I loved this series------
Yes, this is just one of a series written about this world and I love them all. I kept waiting and waiting for more. Her female protaganists were efficient and honorable but not masculine or male bashers. Lovely. Katherine has not written a new book in awhile. Please get busy. I am thirsty!

A book worth any price.
I am a very avid reader with an extensive collection of science fiction's elite. The Fires of Nuala is one of my favorites and I do not bestow such praise lightly. After reading my mother's well-loved copy, I had to secure my own. This book was worth every hour of scouring used bookstores and waiting for out-of-print search results. When I did manage to find a copy, the first thing I did was read it again. I am ever amazed at the revelations I find each time I pick it up. The Fires of Nuala is science fiction at it's finest. Set in the distant but not-so-alien future, The Fires of Nuala is a study on human nature. Katharine Eliska Kimbriel creates a world with obstacles to life itself - intense radiation that mutates the inhabitants and warring families that control Nuala's unending wealth. Such wealth attracts many types of people, especially those that do not always stay within legal limits. Darame is one of these "freetraders" who journey to many worlds to fleece the unknowing locals. While it could be easy to dismiss a character with no morals at all, Darame lives by a code of conduct that is relatively foreign to people in her line of work, and she refuses to abandon her ethics, even for profit. This code is ultimately her key to survival when Nuala is torn apart by a ring of off-worlders bent on gaining infinite wealth by murdering the world's ruling families, most notably the Atare line. Keen wits and unique beauty offer Darame a chance to find love, family, and a home by aiding the powerful healer Sheel Atare in solving the conspiracy behind the murders. The Fires of Nuala is science fiction, mystery, and romance with intelligence and class. It is very easy to get drawn into the world of Nuala and the beauty and danger that surround it. The depth of the character development and quick-moving but thorough plot add the literary necessities to a wonderful story about finding your heart's desire.

Excellent Teacher Education Handbook
This book radiates wonderful and resourceful ideas, lesson plans, and time saving tips. As a beginning teacher, I found The First Year Teacher an excellent handbook and would definitely included it in my library professional collection for teachers.

Jeffery P. Barbour Future Library Media Specialist, NK-12

This is THE book for the first year teacher.
I was fortunate enough to take my student teaching seminar with one of the authors of this book (Dr. Karen Bosch). Although she is terrific in and of herself, her co-authored book is outstanding. From the first on campus interview with human resources personnel to my first day of teaching, this book had it all. There are chapters to guide you through each step of the process to becoming the first year teacher that we all dream and hope to be. It's written from the perspective of the teacher him/herself. Each thought shared by other first year teachers were echoed through myself during those first few days of teaching. I recommend this book to everyone who is about to embark upon their teaching career and those who are returning to the career after an extended absense. It has been my guide book through everything.

A Great Book for Toddlers
This book is about how Grover asked his friends to provide him things, like sticks, newspaper, rags, paste and string to make a kite. Each friend passed by would say, "Come on over, Grover, let's play...." Then Grover replied, " Not yet. May I have your...." Step by step, Grover gathered all the parts to make a beautiful kite. It is a great story to arouse the curiosity of a little child and guide him how to give declines and make requests politely. My 2.75 years old falls in love with this book and can even tell the story himself.

Have some fun with Grover and his friends!
We've probably read this book a zillion-million times and both my daughter and I still love it. Grover is asked to play, time and time again. Each friend is given a polite decline and asked to share their particular treasure. Grover takes each offering and builds a kite which is the delight of all his friends in the end. Such a wonderful lesson in sharing, politeness, and creating. A plus is that the text is easy to read for 4 - 6 year olds. A definate must have for your library.

A wonderful tale of the American revolution
I first read this book in the 1960's when I was in Junior High. I found it again recently and gave it to my daughters.
Katharine is a lovely young governess in England who is unjustly accused of theft & thrown into prison. With the aid of a handsome young doctor, she escapes Newgate Prison and flees to Maine, where the doctor has relatives. Katharine settles in happily there, but America is on the verge of the Revolution. When the war comes to the small town in Maine, she must choose between safety and danger with the man she loves.
This story has lots of interesting historical details and a satisfying romance. Katharine doesn't always make the right choices, but she grows up in this story in a beleivable way.

I loved it
Well I really love books that take place in past. Well the story begins when Katharine is going to jail, she meets a handsome doctor who later helps her escape to America pre-reveloutanary War, Sorry about my spelling. Well she becomes a governess for the doctors cousin's daughter. Well I'm afraid I might give it away so I won't tell you anymore. I hoped I helped.

Totally Inspiring!
I was so stressed about going to college in the fall that I couldn't sleep - even before I graduated from high school. It may sound cheesy, but after reading this book, I feel so much more ready to tackle college and all of its social and academic mountains. The student essays and interviews are really amazing and the book feels like a good friend helping you get ready. I definitely recommend it!

This book is amazing!
If you are currently in public school and are thinking about trying to get into a top university, YOU NEED THIS BOOK. The advice is very practical and backed up with so much detail and common sense. The book is also so inspirational! I bought copies for all of my friends' children!

Master Paintings in the Art Institute of Chicago

An outstanding introduction to the history of art in general
The Art Institute of Chicago houses a world-renown collection of artwork that spans the complete and diverse spectrum of six centuries of painting. Now in a revised and expanded second edition, Master Paintings In The Art Institute Of Chicago organizes and showcases 149 major paintings (like the Insitute itself) into European, American, and Twentieth-Century categories. This outstanding introduction to the history of art in general, and the Art Insitute of Chicago's impressive collection in particular, would grace any personal, academic, or community library artbook collection.

Take the collection to your home
This is a great coffee table book that includes many important paintings of Art Institute of Chicago. All the images are in color, and the story of each painting and the artist is given. Each painting is described on a single page, and therefore the pictures are sufficiently large and detailed. The book starts with 15th century religious paintings, and progresses to include well known impressionist paintings such as Seurat's Sunday on La Grande Jatte and Renoir's Two sisters. It also has a section on 20th century paintings. Not a substitute to seeing the actual works, but it is close...
