AN EXCELLENT BIOGRAPHY OF A MISUNDERSTOOD WRITER
Enid Blyton has been ridiculed by librarians worldwide. Fortunately those who matter - children - think otherwise and, judging by the way in which they react to her writing, love her. Barbra Stoney's biography of this children's author is insightful and extremely interesting, offering a detailed look at who Enid was and the manner in which she wrote. It is evident that events in her life had a profound effect on her writing. Her difficult relationship with her mother and the traumatic effect of her parent's divorce bear testimony to this.
An excellent read, if you can get a copy that is.

Shannon's Review!
The first and favorite one I read was THE TOY SHIP. I liked the part with the fairies. Their clothes were very pretty. It was a happy story. The rope fell so the toy ship got lost. The girl and boy were very sad that day. The ship was sad and happy. Read this book - it makes you fall asleep!

Classic Stories
Enid Blyton's collection of Christmas Tales became a household favorite. Though they are original tales, they have become a timeless treasure that our family brings out every December. The simple yet interesting stories are matched with enchanting pictures. Morals teaching humility and the true meaning of Christmas are interwoven through the plot. This is definitely a book to be added to any family's shelf.

A lesson about humility to which any 4 year old can relate
The Noddy Nodkins series of books is about a little nodding man who is not quite a toy but not quite a decoration. Readily available in London bookstores in both new (reprinted)and used versions, these books depict a toyland reminiscent of yesteryear (wooden trains, rocking horses, teddy bears...) In this book, Noddy develops a big head both literally and figuratively. Noddy struggles to learn humility and regain his proper head size. My 4 and 8 year olds have been enchanted by this little guy. I hope some wise American publisher decides to reprint these wonderful books in the near future.

Fun children's books
I devoured these Famous Five books when I was a kid, and while I can't say I remember much about them -- or even whether I read this particular one -- I do remember that I loved them. I guess they're eclipsed by Harry Potter these days, but if you have or are a kid in the right age group who loves kids' adventure stories, you may want to give these a try.

While we get the return of the main crew of the O'Sullivan twins, Janet and Bobby the pranksters and Hilary Wentworth the head of form, this book brings in some of the most colorful characters in the series. Here, with the girls all moving up into the fourth form, we meet characters like Claudine and the Honorable Angela Favorleigh for the first time.
Claudine is a little french girl, coincidentally also Mamzelle's niece from France. She provides a lot of laughs with her genuine befuddlement at the English ideas of honor and honesty and manages to endear just about everyone.
Angela on the other hand, is a little rich princess who becomes the new object of class bimbo Alison's affection.
With lots of other great characters, this book, like the rest of the books in the series kept me thoroughly entertained the first time I read it at the age of 7, and didnt disappoint even when I decided to re-read it a while back at the age of 17.
A must read for any true lover of Blyton's books!
