Way ahead of her time
Colette's Renee Nere is complex, her name alone tells us that (the last name is the first name spelled backwards, not to mentioned that Renee means "reborn"). This female protagonist would certainly fit in with the modern notion of being female, and in the early 20th century, this was not only rare, but not very-well understood. I adore this book because of the way it encourages women (by example) to carve out their own existence and not to rely upon men for security. It is also wonderfully written. However, you'll be in for a shocker if you read the sequel, "The Shackle".

Perhaps Colette's greatest . . .
Gigi may be the best known of her works, but 'The Vagabond' stands out in pure beauty from the rest. The plot (an actress on the stage who faces public scorn and problems in love) seems to be most autobiographical, and narrator and main character, Renee Nere, is a delight. Both beautiful and painful in spots, this book deserves to be read, as well as its sequel, 'The Shackle.'

Enid Blyton's fantasies make for the pleasantest memories
It's been an age and then some since I read this book but I have only pleasant memories of the story. Enid Blyton's fantasies were always fascinating and entertaining for me and the Wishing Chair stories no less so than any of the others. Enid Blyton weaves a story that transports you to a fun and fanciful place where the adventures are exciting and the happy endings always come. Perfect for pre-teens and even teens who still like their adventure tales less fraught with danger and nightmare fodder than the average Harry Potter installment.

A Rich book about the art of Zaire.
This is a first rate book that examines and traces the art of northeastern Zaire. Focusing on the Mangbetu people and their art before and after the coming of the european, it is a fascinating examination of traditional styles and designs. Many fine examples of art from this region include, utilitarian objects such as harps, knifes, pots, bowls, various textiles, bark boxes and stools. The color photographs are from The American Museum of Natural History's collection, with the text provided by the museum's curator Enid Schildkrout. I am sorry to see that this book is out-of-stock at present. I would strongly advise anyone wanting an excellent book about art from this region to track it down.

Review of Noddy-Toyland Series
"Be Brave Little Noddy" is #13 in a series of 24 books written in the 50's by Enid Blyton. The book, written for children (ages 3-8) is about Noddy's experiences in Toyland with his little wind-up car. He uses his car as a taxi in Toyland. When Mr. Honk damages the car in an accident, Noddy is very upset and goes to his friend, Big Ears, for help. Mr. Honk is now the town taxi driver, and takes all of Noddy's customers while Noddy's car is in the garage. But all is well in the end. Mr. Honk leaves town, Noddy's car is fixed, and he is once again able to make a living as a taxi driver in Toyland. The illustrations are definitely a plus. My children loved hearing these stories over and over again when they were little.

Binkle and Flip Misbehave (Happy Days)

Stories for naughty and creative kids!
Enid Blyton's creative books have always pleased me in a certain way. This book is one of them. The main characters-Binkle and Flip are always in a mischiveous situations. In a way, the characters are quite similar to Brer Rabbit. So, if you are a fan of Brer Rabbit, then this should be your choice too. We can always see that Brer Rabbit mischiveous tricks are done to his best enemies for example, Brer Bear; but Binkle and Flip's acts, surprisingly could include the whole town! This is a great book for children who want to get some laugh for the day. Though the stories are always in a funny situations, it also shows how worse things can get for two mischiveous bunnies!

A castle-like engagement of the senses
I really wish that this book was availible here. I found it in a used book store last year. I read about it in a women's rights manual during high school. Reading the article I searched frantically for Break of Day, as I hope others have done or will. Break of Day works delicately on all your senses. Awakens your nose to the smells of Colette's own gardening. She has you listen to her interesting and sometimes not so captivating friends. Your eyes and hands caress a world of animals, friends, ex-husbands, and nature. Break of Day has you kneeling in the dirt and breathing the air of the coast. This book is about being alive and knowing beauty.

Priceless Literature from a Profound Professor
It is humbling for the reader and reviewer of a document to have been a benefactor of the living author's intellect and pedagogy. It is significant and profound to recognize that a book can serve the purpose of its subject; the audience for which it seeks to address and the common good of our local, state and national discourse on the essential fuel of education-MONEY!
The reader of Cash Management should be practically, philosophically and intellectually motivated by the contents and context of this work. Moreover, the student of educational finance will find clarity and purpose for the herculean goal of providing quality educational access for all children in America.
