Guide to Financial Analysis
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill/Irwin (1990)
Authors: John D. Martin, Oswald D. Bowlin, and David F., Jr. Scott
Amazon base price: $22.39
Average review score:

Solid across the board review of Finance
A well written (almost conversational) review of Financial Analysis. Audience is Commercial Credit Analysts or CFO's of mid size entities , and perhaps a summary review for Equity Analysts (Valuation discussion was bare however and quite dated).

Covers basic ratio analysis, all the way through Capital Budgeting, and analysis of suitable equity / debt mix.

Although lacking in more sophisticated methods and any discussion of newer topics such as derivatives, and International trade issues (FX Translation), this book is perfect for the Regional Bank staffer or mid size Corp CFO.

The reborn Classic Traveller Book4 : Mercenary
This book supplements the GURPS Traveller system by describing the history, organization and tools of the mercenary's trade. Written by two veteran Traveller authors, the attention to detail is refreshing in a gaming supplement. The mercenary's life is thoroughly described in the main text and typical of the GURPS products, spiced up with lots of interesting snippets on the sidebars. New templates and new equipment will be of interest to players keen on dishing out (as mentioned in the preface) "Grade-A violence to all comers". The only (minor) fault I could find is that the sample characters are not particularly inspiring.

The original Mercenary book was arguably the most exciting of the supplements published by the now-closed Game Designers Workshop when I first started playing Traveller. This new version for GURPS Traveller is even better. Easily the first supplement I would get for the GURPS Traveller system.

A good companion
Kyoto: A Cultural Guide ... by John and Phyllis Martin is a comprehensive, easy-to-follow, and interesting companion to take along with you on your wanderings throughout Japan's ancient capital city. Organized in a series of "Tours," with titles such as "The 1,001 Golden Kannon of Sanjusangen-do, the General, and the Potter," the book whets your appetite for information, and delivers - in both historical and contemporary matters. I am using this book as a text for an English class teaching long-time Japanese residents of Kyoto; we are all learning from it. There is enough opinion included in the book to keep it from being dull, yet not too much to keep if from being informative. I would recommend it to newcomers and to old Japan hands, too.

One of Cowley's better Cloister books ...
I rather liked this book. The meditations on the Paschal mystery, on the Passion, are suitable Lenten reading.

Smith is a monk in the Anglican order of the Society of St John the Evangelist, but this book will appeal to most Christians, regardless of ecclesial affiliation.

great for articulate 5-year olds
I don't quite understand this spooky Halloween book, but my 5-year old loves it. He insisted he was going to get it from the library every week for the rest of his life until I suggested buying it. It has added the words "stupefied," "albatross," and "foolies" to his working vocabulary. The story is a little confusing but it's got a good Halloween spirit and look to it.

Best Ever Book on Martin Aircraft! Shame it's just paperback
This book has something for every aviation enthusiast in it. Well written historical text. Great photos that have not been seen all that often. Very nice collection of 3-view drawings. I was surprised to find just how many "Martin" aircraft there were.. Could have been a 10! This book should have been done in hardback! J. Campbell "Cam " Martin

Martin Luther and John Wesley on the Sermon on the Mount
Published in Hardcover by Scarecrow Press (15 April, 1999)
Author: Tore Meistad
Amazon base price: $59.95
Used price: $37.95
Average review score:

Helpful Study for Sermon on the Mount
Meistad carefully and fairly thoroughly picks through first Luther's interpretations and sermons based upon Matthew's "Sermon on the Mount", and then contrasts it with John Wesley's several sermons from the "Sermon on the Mount". I found it extremely helpful for my studies, although I got tired of turning pages from Luther's section to Wesley's section instead of having a side-by-side comparison of their interpretations. I would recommend reading it with "The Cost of Discipleship" (Bonhoeffer). Roughly one third to one half of it is also based on the "Sermon on the Mount" and offers a third insight, closer to Wesley's view than Luther's.

A Book for History Lovers
The book was about a little girl who was asked to deliver a letter to George Washington. There were many problems along the way. One of them was the redcoats, who were British troops.

I liked the book because it was so realistic. To name one thing, Hannah didn't trust everyone she saw.

If you are interested in history, this is the book for you. The author talks about the problems in the American Revolution. For example, the Continental Army had to deal with spies along the way.

Something I learned that I didn't know before was that Americans weren't allowed to leave Yorktown. The British were occupying the town, and prevented Americans from leaving.

Death At It's Most Interesting
This is a great book- one which challenges areas of metaphysics which all too often get ignored in the rush to analyse the ethical issues surrounding death. Most of the articles are fairly easy reads and they develop their theses coherently; the layout of the book allows you to put them in their broader contexts, to compare argument and counter-argument. A fine work of (broadly analytic) Philosophy which makes a valuable contribution to our understanding of Death. Also mercifully unmorbid!
