At long last...
Finally, a complete, comphrensive FIELD guide to the birds of India! Gone are the days of hauling 2 or 3 hardcover bird books to the subcontinent just to be able to identify relatively common species. The drawings in this book are excellent, the descriptions very detailed, and the range maps very helpful. My two criticisms are that birders familiar with the common names in Salim Ali's "The Book of Indian Birds" will be confused with the revised nomenclature in this guide (based on the Inskipp's Indian Checklist); some changes are relatively minor, while others are so dramatically different (and frankly puzzling) that cross-referencing is a chore. The second involves the seperation of many of the range maps from the plates and descriptions, sometimes by many pages. This was due to the large number of species featured on some plates- there just wasn't enough room for the maps also. A better strategy might have been to put them all in the back of the book. But the benefits of this book far outweigh the shortcomings- my next trip to India promises to be more rewarding and productive bird-wise (as well as easier on my back)due to this excellent and overdue field guide.

Very entertaining.
This collection is a great read. So many interesting tales of castles. Shorts are a great way to "taste test" new authors as well as completing a story in a quick way...when you simply don't have the time to hunker down for the weekend!

Interesting
This is an interesting book on France's current president- Chirac. As he now runs against Le Pen, we must listen to his words with renewed concern. Chirac may have a shady past, but so is the history of French politics from Danton on down to Boulanger. And at least Chirac is more moderate than Le Pen and Robespierre. 'Camarades,' Chirac says, 'Camarades, compatriotes, we must vote for us all, for La France'.
This book is interesting in that is gives us an understading of Chirac's persona, policies, and the great challenges he faces today. It is just slightly outdated, for since its release hints of scandal have arisen in Chirac's tenure as president.
'Camarades,' Chirac says- and although he may lack the fiery stage presence of Le Pen, his cool and measured tone bespeaks of a more Gaullist nature.

Some true brilliance in a few tales
This anthology of Delta Green short stories presents a good introduction to the conspiracy/horror concepts of the DG world. Some stories are better than others, and each tale has it's own merits, but the story by Arinn Dembo stands head and shoulders above the rest. The story, a DG-flavored explanation of the life and times of a rockstar who closely resembles Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, is truly fantastic in my opinion. I'm probably a bigger fan of the story because of the unsolved mystery of Cobain's death, but it's well-written and sucks you in with a mixture of present-time and flashback sequences. I recommend the book as both an introduction to DG, and as a source of fresh new historical fiction authors.

The Education of John Dewey
Jay Martin has accomplished a monumental task in his efforts to uncover the true natures of John Dewey and his colorful life. My interest is in educational psychology and pedagogy. I admit a bit of disappointment in that Dewey's theories - - philosophical, psychological, and pedagogical - - were not explored as much as I had hoped. Nonetheless, I feel that Martin's book is a good primer for anyone who is interested in not only Dewey but, also, names such as Parker, and Tyler. The biography's deep historical basis allows readers of this and closely related materials to have a better contextual grasp how U.S. philosophical, psychological, and pedagogical theories were formulated in the late 18th and early 20th Centuries.

A good foundation in printing & publishing.
A textbook covering both the historical development and contemporary application of graphic communication methods. The authors provide a very good foundation for a full understanding of the printing and publishing production cycle. Numerous photographs and illustrations support the text.

All in all, the book was well written, although you had to dig occasionally to pull the really good stuff out into the open. I'd recommend this as a good reference for anyone who wants to ensure that they remain fresh in whatever their current job is and who is interested in working toward that 'Dream job' they really would rather be doing!
