The book is easy to follow and understand and has simple diagrams that complement the reading.

This is one of several books I bought while in med school studying neuroscience. This is a beautiful text, with wonderful drawings, good use of catscans and MRIs, and an excellent layout. It helped me considerably to learn the anatomy of the spinal cord and brain. Since I am deaf and they couldn't deal with it in a classroom (looking down at microscopes does not make lipreading easy or help my interpreters)...they sent me to the morgue with medical students and nursing students. This book provided the background I needed to do well in this situation, because the drawings were explicit enough to be recognizeable when presented with the real thing. I also use this book with deaf students who I hope to encourage to go into science. The drawings always get them interested enough to ask questions, and that is what good science is about. John H., Phd Martin constructed a well-rounded neuroanatomical textbook. The material covers every anatomical aspect of the n.s. including chapters on embryonic development and vascular anatomy. The text is continuously tied in with detailed images (ct, mri, & myelin stained slices of c.n.s.). The reading material is exceptionaly easy for its class. The book gets very detailed, and will make you a leading source on neuroanatomy. Author comment: "Even though this book came out a few years back in '96, the material today is still very similar and they do not get any user-friendlier."

Of all the object oriented programming books that I have read, this book is probably the most concise. The first 200 pages serve as the best object oriented dictionary that I have seen.

Don't bother reading any of their other books, as they all seem to reiterate these first 200 pages

Object-Oriented Analysis & Design is well written and clear. The authors lack of focus on any development platform provides the best method of understanding programming. He creates a vehicle via a way to approach programming that any person new to programming can understand and design. After reading this publication you will have the ability to write bug free programs using any development tool, Visual Basic, C, Java, or C++.

This book is the best OO book you will find. It is clear and concice and draws from experience and background sadly missing in many textbooks.

I was touched profoundly by John Martin's extraordinary imagination.
I sensed a wonderful mysticism ,synonymous ,perhaps, with the authors obvious Irish heritage.
Once I got past the introduction's of the character's ,I could not put this book down. The ending came too quiclky and left me wanting more. I am looking forward to more of John Martin's imagination.

Glad I gave this new writer a shot! The book had me reading through dinner...literally! The detail in the book had me their with Sean! A couple of neat twists helped to keep it flowing nice and making you want to read the next page. I will have to spread the word to friends! When are the other two books Mr. Martin says he is working on going to hit the shelves?!

I read this book on the advice of a friend and couldn't put it down. The story instantly grabs your attention and holds it through the last page. John Martin is an up and coming local author on Long Island, NY. I look forward to his next work.

Graphic thrills, wordplay and cosmic philosophy. This book is packed with the author's history of discovery of calligraphic possibilities, an reflections on similar structural themes. If you like Escher, you will enjoy Langdon.

I definitely recommand it to any Graphic Designer, Artist, Art Student, or just Art Lover! It's a completely different way to look at things...

Want to stretch your imagination? Get Wordplay and you'll never look at words the same again! John Langdon's intriguing ability with ambigrams will astound you. I find myself picking up my copy time and time again. Wordplay is a great conversation piece... worthy of a place of honor on any coffee table.

I purchased this book twice. It is an extreemly informative book for any one wanting to secure any interview. It is written in a clear concise style and manages to inject humour into what is truly a learning experience as it leads the user through a structured list of questions, and you find yourself identifying strongly with many of the questions, but NOT the suggested answer!, (if only I'd had this book earlier....). I lent it to a friend in 93 and never got it back.... I lent my 2nd copy to a friend in 97 and never got it back......., and now IT'S OUT OF PRINT!!! Oh well at least I can console myself at having bought a much valued book in the first place, and yes I did secure many a better job as a result of this book, over the years.

This book helped me to find my first job in America. My English wasn't very good, but the book and the cassette were so intuitive and so concise that I prepared my interview with a minimal time.

This was the first book that I had seen for Avian Medicine that was in color! That was what initially attracted me to this book. I also like the many tables that are spread throughout the book that organize diseases, drugs, etc... I also think that the book is pretty complete in the information that it covers. The only problem I see with the book is that it seems a bit 'regional' as far as the information about specific birds. I had hoped that sort of information would be more diverse instead of just a few species. Other than that I thought it was very good and a nice reference manual to have in your avian medicine library.

I have been a rehabilitator of raptors for 13 years, Avian Medicine is absolutely the best one single source of information I have ever seen. This book covers almost anything a rehabilitator would need to know for the birds in their care. The color photographs give great examples of almost any avian ailment you will encounter. Many times rehabilitators will have a bird with a problem that is not something you see every day. Avian Medicine by Jaimie Samour makes it much easier to identify specific ailments. This book also covers drug dosages, blood chemistry, commonly used drugs and everything else from incubation techniques to imping feathers. This is a must have for veternarians that are not avian specilists and avian specilists alike. My vet once told me that birds are an elective in vet school and she learned all she knows because of her personal interest in raptors. Without her personal interest she would not have acquired the basic skills to care for these magnificent birds. Avian Medicine will definitely be an asset to her and anyone else with a passion for birds and their well being. I will recommend this book to all of my rehabilitator friends across the country and plan to buy another copy for my vet as a Thank You for the volunteer service she has provided to the thousands of raptors that have come in to our facility.

After picking this book up at a Sam's club out of curiosity I found that I couldn't put it down and ended up putting it in the cart. My companion is a begining Astronomy buff and he couldn't get enough eighther. We were reading it to each other and trying to read it at the same time. We have learned alot from this book and have put it to good use with his new telescope. I highly remommed this book to the person who has always wanted to get started in astronomy!

This beautifully produced book is a superb addition to the library of any backyard astronomer or anyone from eight to eighty. It's a best buy for several reasons.
The first is its outstanding quality. The second is the BEWARE!.
This book is actually a softcover, otherwise identical reprint of "Advanced Skywatching", ISBN: 0783549415, published in 1997, also by Time-Life.
Perhaps Time-Life used this subterfuge to catch unwary on-line shoppers that already own "Advanced Skywatching" (as I do), since you can't view the contents on-line to discover you already own the same book under a different name.

The complaint on the star charts about this book (or its twin) not covering the entire sky is not critical.
There isn't room on anyone's bookshelf for all the possible fun sky-hops, of which this book and its twin present abundant excellent examples. There are more and different, also challenging and instructive ones in another fine volume, "Turn Left at Orion", and many others.

Not to worry if you get sucked in. This one makes a fine gift for your favorite grandchild as mine will.
Add this to your "must have" list if you don't already own its twin. If you do, buy it anyhow and give it to someone special.
The price is astonishingly low for the fine content.

The idea of "the best of the Oxford American" brings out a lot of expectations. This magazine has been the home for a lot of special writing. This book provides some of those moments. I especially enjoyed the narrative of the small town photographer burdened by the unwelcome insights of his coworkers and the blank misunderstandings of his Disney World roadtripping friends. I think that the criticism by Tony Earley would have made just as good an introduction to this book as did Rick Bragg's more metaphorical observation that this writing is "heavy on the salt."
I would recommend this book for anyone that wants to read about the South as it actually is -- unique, history-addled, and genuinely "salty".

This collection of works--fiction, nonfiction, poetry, reportage--by the biggest names writing in or about the South is a real treasure. For those already familiar with "the New Yorker of the South" it will remind those what have made the magazine so special for so many years, and for those who have not discovered the magazine, BOA will be a great introduction to the best in Southern belles lettres. The book, like the magazine itself, is a little trad and not good on commenting on the lives of blacks, gays/lesbians, and immigrants to the South, but there is much for everyone to enjoy here.

Although small in size, this book covers all the aspects of the lives of birds. Everything from nesting to migration. There's more to birding than just identification, and this book is a good start for that step beyond. Also has good illustrations. Recommended.

Bird Life was the first book about birds that I bought when I began seriously observing the birds in my neighborhood. I have more sophisticated guides to birds now, but I still refer to Bird Life for interesting bits of information that I just wouldn't find in any field guide. At only 4x6 inches in size and 160 pages, Bird Life looks like it was made to put in a pocket and take into the field. But it isn't really a field guide. It is simply the largest collection of information on the most different aspects of bird behavior in the smallest space. A list of the topics the book addresses will show you what I mean by that: bird behavior, preening, how birds sleep, feeding, food storage, social displays, family life, songs and calls, hearing, flight, navigation, longevity, conservation, attracting birds, feeding birds, and making bird feeders from common household items. None of these topics is covered in an exhaustive manner. Bird Life provides an introduction to each of these subjects. It doesn't help much in identifying birds, but helps you to understand their daily lives. The information is general but includes examples of species that engage in specific behaviors. And there are illustrations of bird behaviors and anatomy. As an introduction to birds, this book is tops!

Highly recommended for anyone who has ever encountered a bird! Really. It is easy to read and full of fascinating facts. You don't have to be a "bird person" to enjoy this book. You only risk discovering that your avian neighbors might be more interesting than you realized. Casual birders will find some intriguing info that they may not have read before. Makes a fun and inexpensive stocking stuffer too!

the record by record and song by song account given by the authors is truly amazing! I like the little bits of info given about each song...What was going on during the recording...what certain lyrics were meant to mean....lots of tidbits like those, that add up to an informative and fun read for any Aerosmith fan!

This is a great book for any Aerosmith collector.
I loved it. The book is the size of a CD, but this book is packed with great reviews of each album and songs to their albums. It ends at Nine Lives, as this album was just released once the book was released.

I was hesitant at first to order it, since it was smaller than their other books available, but there are some great photos of the boys and the book was very well compiled.

Get it, it's worth the money.
