My 14 month old daughter loves this book. We received two of them as gifts when she was younger and she can recite both books now. It is wonderful to watch how excited she is whne it is reading time.

This series of books is wonderful for little ones. My 18 month old son has loved them since he was a year old. The large flaps are easy for him to manipulate and the he loves to act out what each page says! A must for parents of toddlers!

Children love to do the things the book tells them to. Parents will love having their child kiss them, cuddle them, tickle them, and scream. Enjoyable for everybody.

This was my son's favorite book. We had to read it several times a day and he never ever tired of it. It is bright, colorful, and a lot of fun to read. I am buying the tiger, whale, and mouse books for my brother's new little boy. I thoroughly recommend this book!

This interactive children's book is great fun! It encourages you and your child to "stamp your feet," "smile," "whisper," "laugh," or "shout out boo," depending on who you find behind the flaps. The pictures are bright and attractive, featuring safari themes that include an elephant, giraffe, crocodile, kangaroo, and tiger. The flaps are big for little hands to pull back. Great fun for kids, and for the adults that witness the children's enthusiasm and even participate in the foot stomping themselves!

This full color book has a broader scope than his WW II Tommy (c.f.) It covers the khaki drill and jungle green uniforms of the RAF and even the Naval ratings of the Malta Defense Force in white undress shorts.
This book is extremely well photographed in a large format. Because Brayley served 24 years as a military photographer in many parts of the world he was able to pose his models in the actual locations where the items were worn in Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East. As in all his work, all of the items are original World War period issue.
The only peculiar thing to my eyes is that because many items were unused, due to the British manner of attaching the clothing issue labels to the outside of the garments, these lables are visible in the images. In actual service, of course, these would be removed.
The book covers as well as clothing, personal equipment, small arms, and comfort items commonly carried in the field.
This is a fine work and a classic of its genre and deserves a place along with his other works on the library shelf.

Oh, wow! A wonderful follow up to Tommy! An excellent and all encompassing review of British & Commonwealth uniforms worn in the warmer theatres of WW2. And at last someone has shown me that the P44 Equipment really did have an actual rucksack. Other writers, (Davis & Chappel), when describing this item, never show what it looked like, and as I have a P44 large pack that is nothing like what they describe, I doubted the existance of a rucksack. So my thanks to Messrs. Ingram & Brayley for illustrating it in use, and mounted on the P45 manpack carrier. The photos in the book are ecellent, the descriptions are clear and often amusing, and the subject matter extensive. To my mind it is the diffinitive work on British uniforms in the Middle and Far Easts. I only wait, with ill-concealed impatience, for September when the publishers promise the republication of the authors' first work on the uniforms of the British women's services; then my collections of books on British uniforms of WW2 will be complete

As the title suggests this work covers the uniforms worn by the British forces in tropical regions, personal kit and weapons are illustrated but the emphasis is on clothing of all types. Captions are necessariy brief but highly informative, space being devoted to quality photography rather than long text. If you enjoyed WW11 Tommy you will love this work that covers an untouched field.

Being a French speaker, I didn't have any problem understand it and reading it. The subject is really well covered and written by many scientists. Many causes are explained.

This is the best, most comprehensive treatment of available data (which has grown some) and theories (which have grown but not multiplied) on land vertebrate extinctions of the last 100,000 years. If you are a mammoth/sabertooth extinction hound, this book will feed you better than any other. It does require some specialized knowledge in a few chapters, but the gist is accessible for the educated layperson. It's worth hunting for or buying used.

A more recent offering, though briefer, is "Extinctions in Near Time," Ross MacPhee, ed.

I appreciate the candor in labeling two of the major sections, entitled 'the theoretical marketplace: geologic-climactic models' and 'the theoretical marketplace: cultural models' which encompass variations on each of the two main theories for the extinction.

In addition to theories, the book describes the various mammals as well as their pattern of disappearance region by region worldwide. At 867 pages, it will keep you going for a while, but it's worth every page.

There is only one chapter on birds, only passing references to a tortise, lizard, or fish, and nothing on plants. I would love to find similar treatments for changes in characteristic flora for the same time period.

This is THE reference on Quaternary extinctions. The beauty of this book is that it isn't just one person's opinion, but a collection of well-researched articles on Quaternary topics by some of the top minds in the field. College students, especially in the biosciences and geography disciplines, BUY THIS BOOK AND KEEP IT HANDY!

This new edition of the classic Bulfinch's Mythology is excellent. It has retained all of Bulfinch's old texts and introductions to myths and their histories, but it has also added some new introductory material. This material, much having to do with Bulfinch's own life and education helps to bring light into the context for which Bulfinch was writing. For example, did you know that Bulfinch originally began writing mythology pieces for magazine entertainment? There is also much information in the new introductions about Bulfinch's education and the place that he held (or rather, didn't hold) within Boston's then extremely rigid social strata. The editor also provides an interesting look at why Bulfinch told the myths in the way he did and compares the sources that Bulfinch used to those of his contemporaries (Hawthorne, for example). It really is very interesting reading.

Of course, this edition of Bulfinch's mythology still contains all of the wonderful myths that our society has come to know through this book, along with Bulfinch's original introductions to each chapter.

The book is large and heavy, therefore not a great traveling companion. Still, it more than makes up for it with content. If you keep this book out on your shelf and read a small bit of myth every day, you will never be bored or lack for reading material again.

Bulfinch's Mythology is, simply put, the best. I cannot think of another book I simply enjoyed reading more. It deals with classical myth, the tales of Charlemagne and Arthur, some Celtic myths... it is an invaluable companion to someone who is studying cultural history, or just as an eminently readable book. It serves as an admirable companion to Frazer's "The Golden Bough", giving some context to much of his writing.

This is the best book ever written! I am 20 now and still in love with "Bendemolina, Bendemolina, the cat with the pot on her head". This was my ratty dog-eared most favorite book of all time when I was little--it got read every night. It became a part of our family traditions (i.e. anytime I wasn't listening I got called a Bendemolina). By the way, I can't remember if that's how you spell the kitty's name, but that's how it sounds--and wow, that book has great sounds! If you buy this book, I can guarantee that your children will love it. Finding that it is still in print, I'm going to buy it for my boyfriend's two small sons. Yay! More moop on the feep!

Hey! Don't blame us for enriching phonemic awareness of pre- and early readers with this hilarious story. That's what's happening at our house because our six year-old wants to hear this story every night. When the eldest of 10 kittens wears a shiny pot as a hat, she has a hard time hearing her mother's instructions. Highly original and nonsensical household chaos ensues. The wacky rhyming text in this inventive plot does not fail to induce uncontrolled giggling. (Our favorite: "Mup the moop on the feep?") Witty illustrations highlight the absurdity of each situation when the cat with the pot on her head repeats what she thought she was told. Depending on your point of view, the moral of the story could either be to always or to never wear a pot on your head!

I have made this book mandatory for all of our advanced emt students. It provides a step by step manner of acquiring the psychomotor skills necessary for today's prehospital professional. A very good boo

Doc Jones is a wonderfully written account of colorful people and an insightful peak into human nature. I couldn't put it down. Loved it!

A touching, funny, insightful account of the human condition played out against the practice of a small doctor and his patients. A way of life that's passing from the American landscape kept alive by Dr. Jones with colorful, witty writing and a real compassionate touch.

I needed a text to teach an economics class with and searched for weeks with little satisfaction. Then I ran across this under utilized text. The writing is "brilliant" and the authors, especially Mr. Myers seem to have a very firm and realistic grasp of the essential concepts of "Economics"

This is an outstanding economics textbook. Can be used as a quick primer on what the basics of the field are all about. I believe that the author of this book is a truly remarkable and extraordinary individual and everyone should listen to him closely.

You can look forward to the publication of "In a Surreal Fashion: The Creative Collaboration between Schiaparelli and Dali" by Robyn Gibson in January 2003 (Berg Publishers). I know I am!

This book explores the relationship between fashion and the surrealism art movement. It includes gorgeous photos and interesting text. I was especially interested in the section of Dali's works and Schiaparelli's designs, showing how the two influenced one another. Fashion can be and should be fun, and this lovely coffee table book demonstrates how this can be achieved. Truly a beautiful work.
