Things you won't find anyplace else
This book is full of things you won't find anyplace else, maybe because most of them haven't been around for a hundred years or so. The book is like wandering through a living museum. We bought a country place a year ago and this book (and Farm Devices, Harris on the Pig, Farm Conveniences and fences, Gates and Bridges, all of which we also own) are exactly the right thing if you want to add an authentic touch to a porch or a barn. My friends love reading through them. I enjoy them immensely. The "introductions" are wonderful, too. There are three by Dennis Boyles and they are the best - hysterically funny!

This Book can Build a Relationship
We do a lot of family stuff. We read together, hike, vacation; we even eat our meals together. But being a close emotional foursome [mom, dad, son age 12 and daughter age 10] we are always looking for a new way to share our time.

Pick up this book and pick a project. We started with a new gate to the pool but decided it was too easy. What is great about this book is that it not only gives great construction guidelines it is a building block (no pun intended) to other projects.

We finally decided to build a bridge across Ash Brook which passes through our property about 100 yards behind the house. At first we thought we could span 30 feet, but later decided 15 was a better idea. Well, the bridge in the book and our final product did not resemble each other. Who cares. The basics were supplied and we went our own way.

Great ideas and pictures. Use it as a guide or a technical manual. It doesn't matter. Everything works.

A can't miss book for fantasy fans
I have read all three in the series so far and can't wait for the fourth. The characters and world are masterfully detailed. The plot is one of the best I have ever read,it starts slow but as it develops you'll find yourself unable to put it down. This series has everything you look for in a great book. you will laugh you will cry and most definatly gasp at the betrails.Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister are the most interesting characters to me. You'll root for Jon and won't know what to think about the imp Tyrion, and also the direwolves are a great addition. To finish, if you love fanasy as I do, I Recommend you pick up a copy

a towering tirade against tiny tyrants of......
a pox upon thee sir dove! thou art the devil's swine who swallows naught but the murkiest poison of pretentiousness and vomits forth the juiciest jargon a man of such improvident lackwitedness can muster! but afterall, you've completed a behemoth of a book and deserve a well-rounded review, sir. and here it is (pax, not pox): i found your book to be filled with many bug words, many of which i didn't understand. the big words undoubtedly reflected big ideas, most of which i don't understand. by the time i was at page 4 i was already highly impressed with the big words, and felt as small as the big words were big. but sadly, your big words echoed the struggling strains of a tired twitterbird, whose once soaring renditions of mozart's requieum inflated men's hearts like the bloated hotairbag of the hindenburg, but now putters out with the faint rumble of a cough.

READ THIS!
This book is chockful of great monographs on gay and lesbian history. After a world-shaking introduction by all three editors, the book offers monographs from many periods in history. And not only is Western history profiled--there is also Asian gay history, and other non-European monographs as well. Everything is scholarly, and well-documented, and some of the information that you read in here is incredibly surprising! I am glad that a book like this finally exists, and, as a historian myself, know from this book that history is changing for the better by including the gay population and other minorities.

Olive Production Manual (#3353)
Published in Paperback by UC Regents (1994)
Authors: Louise Ferguson, George C. Martin, and G. Steven Sibbett
Amazon base price: $32.00

A comprehensive manual on olive growing
Louise Ferguson and her colleagues present a unique set of topics on the olive (Olea europaea), its growth and development and downstream processing of the olive fruit for eating and olive oil production. Topics include varieties, nutrition, planning olive groves, water requirements, pruning and training as well as propogating methods and pest management. This text, an international standard for olive production, has been developed from the research activities of the University of California (Davis) USA. The text is well written and illustrated with diagrams, graphs and coloured photographs. The latter dealing with problems that can be experienced in olive growing. A modern commercial olive grove can be established and managed with the information presented. This text is a must for all those dealing with olives especially horticultralists, growers and horticultural students.

Queer Forster (Worlds of Desire - The Chicago Series on Sexuality, Gender and Culture)

Authors: Robert K. Martin and George Piggford
Amazon base price: $17.00
Used price: $10.20

Provides up-to-date research
E. M. Forster's homosexuality made him 'different' when it came to the public morals of English contemporary society. The essays in this book explore the intricate link between that fact and his fiction. It is not an easy read for a Sunday afternoon, but certainly it opens a new world for anyone genuinely interested in E. M. Forster, colonialism in literature, queer theory and twentieth-century literature. Indispensable from the scholarly point of view. A beautiful journey through the Forster-landscape, with many great vistas and precious finds.

Sing a song...
This book is a beautiful introduction to Nikki Giovanni's childrens' poetry. Each piece, written from the viewpoint of a black child, graces us with the experiences common in the life of a kid. Ranging from the childs eye view of 'Mommies' and 'Daddies' to the monsters in our dreams to the invincibility of youth, and the realities of being black, the poetry lyrically gives a peek at the soft sides of everyday life. I've loved this book since my mother first read it to me, and recommend it to ALL parents, but especially to Black parents and their children.

No Title
...so thst I may become dried tunny fish in the good Castilian air, where thoughts of a future were lost three and a half centuries ago,and the future is now nothing more than the prospect of decay,an oxhide spread out to dry with the mummifying flesh resembling dried tunny fish, and men like myself who become accustomed to eating dried tunny fish with a glass of wine, and prefer it to caviar, herring,or foie de gras from the Landes. How unfortunate are those of us not fitted for ecstasy!...And I'm like St.Lawrence, you know, that's who I am ,and you turn me over because I'm roasted on this side like the sardines,Lawrence, like the humble sardines,I'm roasted, the sun roasts,I'm being roasted dry.St.Lawrence was a man,he didn'y cry out,he lay there silently while the pagans roasted him over the fire, and history tells us that all he said was:"Turn me over, for I'm done on this side"...

With this ends Time of Silence by Luis Martin-Santos.Elements of Beckett,Antonio Lobo Antunes and Reinaldo Arenas and if you wish Malcolm Lowry...what more could you ask for.Unfortunately it is the only novel he wrote.
