Kids will like to look at this one up close!
This book has neat step-cut pages that get bigger as the pyramid grows. There is simple text explaining the process of pyramid building for young children, as well as additional facts and information for older or more experienced children. I am taking my kindergarten class on a field trip to an Egyptian exhibit, and this will be a good book to introduce them to the pyramids.. we may even make our own! I was surprised when I received the book -- it is a hardcover with sturdy pages!

The Best of Its Kind
I was practically inseperable with this book for weeks after I first got it. Well-written and exhaustively in-depth look at every aspect of the four ex-Beatles solo careers. This has all the info you could ever want on solo albums, tours, TV appearances, bootlegs, etc. The only drawback is that I got so into it I was forced to buy all the solo records I hadn't already owned!

Stunning look at a lost icon
Now gone, the Eliza furnaces of Jones and Laughlin once had a place on the Pittsburgh skyline. Prior to, and including their demolition, Mark Perrott snuck through the fences to record these pictures, which are some of the finest industrial photographs published in a long time. Some of the most moving photograph show the areas where men and women worked, and how ghostly those areas are when the workers have gone. In some photos, it looks almost like some sort of biological weapon or neutron bomb has killed off the workers; everything looks as though they just walked away, and the mill awaits their presence. But of course, they would never return, as the mill was turned into scrap, and probably fed into another company's steelmaking furnaces. Interspersed with interviews of some Eliza workers, this short book has a hard impact, showing the end of a mighty industry. Well worth it.

The Epistles of John: An Expositional Commentary

The Best Commentary on the Epistles of John
The late, D. Edmund Hiebert, has done an excellent work which will profit all pastors, teachers and informed Christian laymen as they study the Johannine epistles. Hiebert, who was Professor of New Testament at Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary, has written a lucid commentary which deals with all aspects of textual, lexical and syntactical difficulties, without sacrificing a clear pastoral tone to it.

The only fault that perhaps is in this work, is that Hiebert seems to stumble over 1 John 1. As can be seen, this chapter helps to illustrate Jesus Christ as God (i.e. the Word, cf. John 1:1), and is used to bring people to understand Christ's work in the Test's of Life (as is the theme of 1 John). Beyond that issue, which is minor to say the least), this is an excellent commentary.

If you can have only one commentary on the Johannine epistles, let this be the one (Donald W. Burdick's The Letters of John the Apostle, is second best. Unfortunately it is out of print).

Financing and Acquiring Park and Recreation Resources

An excellent, up-to-date textbook.
This book is much improved over the old Howard/Crompton or Deppe texts. It is very apparent to me that the author has thoroughly researched his topic area. His emphasis on active financing rather than just budgeting is something which very much attracted my immediate attention. A few years ago, I took an independent study course on partnerships from Dr. Wilbur LaPage. Much of what Dr. LaPage was teaching about can be found in John Crompton's new book.

Awesome book when you don't want to read alot
I'm 15 and had to critique a book having to do with the Middle Ages. While other people chose The Prince and bigger books I sorta cheated and got this 30 page book with pictures. It had lots of informative facts and little cartoon drawings that helped me better understand the info. It took me 20 minutes to read so it was really easy but I actually learned alot.

A welcome addition to an excellent series
As the final gospel commentary in this series (Sacra Pagina) this volume will serve as a very helpful commentary to many who are pursuing a study of the Marcan text. This series stands between the highly critical, scholarly commentaries which many find intimidating or excessive and those commentaries which leave many wanting more.
After nearly fifty pages of introductory material, the authors, in following the design of the series, provide commentary and exegesis for each successive pericope in the text. Their information will be helpful to preachers, teachers, students and anyone who wants to do a careful examination of the Marcan text.
I am currently using it as a primary resource for my class notes for an eleventh grade honors course in Scripture Studies and most of the material is accessible to my students.
The scholarship is solid and the bibliographies are very helpful for anyone who wants to pursue a particular topic to a further depth.
