More about things NIN related, then actually about NIN
I bought this book in my continual search for information on my favorite band, Nine Inch Nails. And this book certainly had a lot of information to provide me with. However, the format used almost got to the point of being annoying.

What this book does it introduce a subject (the production of Pretty Hate Machine for example), mention that it heavily used synthesizers, then go into the history of synthesizers. After 2 pages, then it gets back to the topic at hand. And while sometimes I was intrigued by the information provided (say, for FLOOD), most times it was something that either didn't need to be mentioned in a book about Trent Reznor, or could be in a book about the industrial music movement.

I used the same method in my senior composition class to pad papers, but in this case it wasn't warranted.

Come to think of it, the book tries at times to be an all encompassing encyclopedia of industrial music, which isn't why I bought it at all. I suppose I'm more knowledgeable about it because of the information provided, but it wasn't by choice.

The information about NIN is fascinating, and ends with the recording of their live album "And All That Could Have Been." Overall, I liked the book, but could have lived without the extraneous information about everything under the sun.

Good, yet get more information
I wouldn't say I am a fanatic Nin fan but a really really big fan. Tommy Udo wrote a great book it gives a lot of good information and goes over the history pretty well. But He made a mistake. There is a part in one of the first chapters where he is explaing the albums. And he said that the Live Album was called And All That Might Have Been. When in fact it is titled And All That Could Have Been. And he takes quotes out of context. Where one time he says that Trent Said. "I see that I am saving Rock n' Roll. billy Corgan failed, now it's all up to me." He said that in this context "people are saying that I see that I am saving Rock n' Roll, Billy Corgan Failed, so it's up to me whenI really don't ever like Rock that much". Great book though, he just needs to leave thigns the way they are.

Ten telescope essays plus one
This book is a collection of essays on experiences using small telescopes for observing the heavens. The discussions range from 60mm refractors thru 5 in. "go to" scopes, including a home made 4 in. Newtownian. There is also a short essay on radio astronomy which seems out of place in this text. This book would have been served by better organization. Some of the essays have good insights on observing with these small telescopes, but it pays to look through all the essays, even for those not dealing with the specific telescope one owns or is interested in. This book was published with beginners in mind, but the organization of the book may leave a beginner confused. This is a bit below the average of books in the "Practical Astronomy" series, but a good starting point for owners of telescopes 5 in. in diameter and smaller. The "Radio Telescope" essay, though out of place in this text, gives an insight into non-visual astronomy open to the amatuer astronomer.

One of the classic great books on the small block chevy
Covers all the building blocks of performance Small Block engine building. This book was written before all the electronic fuel injection and aluminum heads of the eighties were introduced. So it's really aimed at non fuel injected cars. This is 70's technology, very well written with good photos. A Classic reference book I keep in my toolbox. (I'd rate it five stars if it were newer info.)

Water by the Inch: Adventures of a Pioneer Family on an Arizona Desert Homestead

Early Arizona--less than 100 years ago
This is a book by a pioneer who took sage brush and converted it into a farm. My family came into ownership of this property in ~1953 and sold it in 1985. The changes that have occurred from the time the Youngs homesteaded the property until today makes your head spin. If you did not own this land at some time, the book would be extremely uninteresting. Since it is part of my family history, I loved it!

A Dry Manual for Outdated Software
While it is no easy task to write captivating prose
for operations research, this book is a step
below the typically dry literature. This manual
assumes that you already know how to do
the various techniques and offers vague examples
of how to input the necessary formulas into a DOS based environment.

If you are a beginner and just want to learn
some practical applications of operations research
techniques read Stokey and Zeckhauser's
"A Primer for Policy Analysis." Although it is not
a software based book, there are plenty
of free software programs available on the
web. If you want a Windows based package,
try the Solver plug-in for either Excel
or Lotus 1-2-3 (97) and pick up
Ragsdale's "Spreadsheet Modeling and Decision Analysis."

How to be a Princess
I recently purchased this book for my 5 year old aspiring Princess and we were delighted. I do not normally purchase books about cartoon characters, this one caught my eye and we were not disappointed with the choice. I previewed the book on my husband and even he was chuckling, nor did he leave the room. The book is written just as any child would tell a story with great exaggeration and mispronunciations. The stickers are just an added feature making this book truly interactive.
